This week the first live show of Georgian Idol started, and with it, the final ten became nine. Those nine will continue to compete in coming weeks, and eventually the series winner will go on to represent Georgia at Eurovision 2020.

After the first live show, one act was eliminated. The first act to fall was Merab Amzoevi. He was in the bottom two alongside Nika Kalandadze, while Tamar Kakalashvili led the game for the first show. Tamar topped the results with 16.53% of the 19,790 votes.

The public is able to vote for their favourite via both telephone voting as well as through the Facebook Messenger app. The remaining nine face more performances and more eliminations before the grand final on 31 December. Take a look at the performances from first live show.

Georgian Idol – First live show performances

The ten competing acts tackled a number of English-language pop classic which showed off the vocal talents each were bringing to the contest.

Among the performances, Merab delivered a silky take on Adele’s “Skyfall”, while Nika Kalandadze got sultry with Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games”. Tornike Kipiani showed off his rock chops with Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, and Barbara Samkharadze got sassy with Lesley Gore’s classic “You Don’t Own Me”.

Unlike the last season of Georgian Idol, which selected both the artist and the song for Eurovision, this year’s series will only select the artist. The future winner of Georgian Idol will then have their Eurovision song internally selected.

Nika is my favourite, she is so different and needs a good song to compete well on Eurovision.

Same, but doubt she’ll win, she almost went home on the first week(think Georgia doesn’t like her)

Heyy! I am georgian, many of us love Nika, i personally think that she is the best and deserves to go to the Eurovision, she kinda looks like Nina Sublatti, but many georgian people think that (Tornike and Tamar) would be better ?

Hey! When Nina Sublatti took part in the Georgian Idol, in 2013, she almost went home on the first week too. Then she won.
