Sanremo 2020: Nina Zilli, Noemi, Elodie and Arisa lead wave of girl power comebacks

The days pass and the Sanremo Music Festival approaches. From 4 to 8 February twenty Italian artists will battle to win the traditional Leoncino d’Oro and fly to Eurovision in Rotterdam.

We’ll find out the competitors on January 6. And the coming weeks will, no doubt, be filled with more speculation about who will be on that list of stars.

In recent days we have reported about several rumored acts, among which we find Francesco Gabbani, Giusy Ferreri, Achille Lauro, Matteo Bocelli, Giordana Angi, Al Bano & Romina, Massimo Ranieri, Elettra Lamborghini, Irama e Annalisa.

But this year it seems Italian media are really struggling to pin down the exact names of the singers in the competition. So here is another string of hopefuls reported by Italian websites All Music Italia and Recensiamo Musica.

Sanremo 2020: Rumoured artists include Nina Zilli and Elodie

We start with a quintet of women: Nina Zilli, Elodie, Noemi, Arisa and Irene Grandi.

Eurovision 2012’s Nina Zilli would like to return to improve on the disappointing seventeenth place from 2018 with “Senza appartenere”. Does her record company, Universal Music, consider Nina a priority?

Redheaded singer Noemi, who collected very little in 2018 with “Non smettere mai di cercarmi“, wants to relaunch her career through a song written by Eurovision 2018 act Fabrizio Moro. For her, he has already composed “Sono solo parole“, which placed third at Sanremo 2012.

Elodie Di Patrizi is considered a 100% lock for the line up, following the success of the singles “Pensare male” featuring The Kolors and “Margarita” with her boyfriend Marracash. It is still unclear whether she will be on stage alone or accompanied by rapper Gemitaiz.

Arisa, who has recently left Sugar Music, could return under an independent label. Rumor has it that Amadeus personally invited her, despite having already been at Sanremo a few months ago, in 2019, with “Mi sento bene“.

Then there is the pop-rock singer Irene Grandi who may celebrate 50 years with her fifth participation at the kermesse.

The list of rappers at stake is still long, since this is now the genre that leads the charts in Italy. However, there are very few places available.

There is talk of the return of Rocco Hunt, Rancore and Tormento as well as Lowlow‘s debut, which should be paired with a contestant from X Factor 2018, either Martina Attili or Luna Melis.

Another artist who has been missing from the scene for a while is Raphael Gualazzi. The runner-up of Eurovision 2011 extends the list of male proposals which also includes Tricarico, Piero Pelù, Diodato, Gianluca Grignani and the band Le Vibrazioni.

Finally, a trio of women who have already taken part Sanremo several times are on the media’s radar: Mariella Nava, Rossana Casale and Grazia Di Michele. Since their presence as soloists is unlikely, they have decided to join forces and try to return to the Festival together.

The confirmed lineup of Sanremo 2020 will be officially announced on Monday, 6 January during the evening live show I Soliti Ignoti, hosted by Amadeus.
