The Masked Singer has taken the world by storm — and Eurovision stars have been front and centre for much of the action. From Isaiah Firebrace in Australia to Erika Vikman in Finland, it seems like producers know where to go to find big voices.
And, in yet another worlds-collide moment between ESC and The Masked Singer, Lithuanian producers have called on The Roop’s frontman Vaidotas Valiukevicius to sit on the judging panel.
Known locally as Kaukes (Masks), the show will feature 12 well-known Lithuanian personalities from the world of music, sports, television and more. Six judges and viewers at home will do their best to guess who is hiding behind the costumes, which include a golden tiger and a massive banana man.
In addition to Vaidotas, there are five other judges: radio journalist Livija Gradauskiene, TV host Indre Kavaliauskaite, fashion designer Aleksandras Pogrebnojus and the basketball players Darju and Krzysztof Lavrinovic.
“I became a member of the jury of the new musical LNK TV project ‘The Masked Singer’. I agreed to participate because the project was really intriguing. A person known to the public from any area can hide under the mask.”
“All members of the jury are very different. At first I thought ‘what am I doing here?’ but after getting to know everyone, I realized that our differences only adorn this show even more. It all starts today at 7:30 PM on LNK TV.”
Speaking to Lithuanian newspaper 15min, Vaidotas said that the show appeals to him because it’s a rare opportunity to be a judge without having to criticise — you simply have to guess who is behind each of the fabulous costumes.
“It’s intriguing,” he says. “I wonder if there will be good friends or colleagues among the participants?”
Vaidotas isn’t the only Baltic Eurovision star joining the judges’ panel on The Masked Singer. Over in Latvia, Samanta Tīna has joined the production of Balss maskā. The Latvian series debuts tonight, 13 September.

Anyone else get the feeling that it’s all coalescing into one, x-factor-voice-idol-got-talent-masked-singer-drag-race-eurovision. I’m sure we’ll get at least one mask gimmick in the next contest or two. I’d personally like to see the contest separate itself from these lesser TV shows.
Incidentally, the Banana Man, on the thumbnail of this article, was unmasked on the first show yesterday. He was revealed to be
