Four semi-finals, one andra chansen round, and now we’ve reached the grand final of Melodifestivalen 2021. A total of 12 acts have managed to reach the final stage of the contest. They will all be hoping to go away victorious and be chosen as Sweden’s representative for Eurovision 2021.

However, only one act will end the night on Saturday 13 March with the trophy in their hand. And now we want to know who you think that should be.

Are you dancing along with Danny Saucedo? Is your heart still beating in time with Klara Hammarström’s? Have you signed up for Anton Ewald’s new religion? Do you think The Mamas deserve to place higher than in the middle of the grand final scoreboard? Has Paul Rey provided the musical missing piece you were looking for? Does Charlotte Perrelli’s song make you feel young once again?

Are you one of the voices shouting out support for Tusse? Does Alvaro Estrella make you want to baila? Does Clara Klingenström get your support this day and every day? Are you still listening to Eric Saade’s entry every minute of the day? Have you got some little (potato) tots ready to eat whilst watching Dotter perform? Or are you hoping Arvingarna won’t have to go home empty handed?

Review all 12 competing acts below, then go ahead and vote in our poll. As always, you can vote for as many acts as you would like. But you can only vote once, so make sure you’re confident with your picks before hitting the ‘vote’ button!

Melodifestivalen 2021 – Finalists

Danny Saucedo – “Dandi Dansa”

Klara Hammarström – “Beat Of Broken Hearts”

Anton Ewald – “New Religion”

The Mamas – “In The Middle”

Paul Rey – “The Missing Piece”

Charlotte Perrelli – “Still Young”

Tusse – “Voices”

Alvaro Estrella – “Baila Baila”

Clara Klingenström – “Behöver inte dig idag”

Eric Saade – “Every Minute”

Dotter – “Little Tot”

Arvingarna – “Tänker inte alls gå hem”

Poll: Who should win the grand final of Melodifestivalen 2021?

[crowdsignal poll=10767373]

How can I watch Melodifestivalen 2021?

Is it just me or does this feel like an off year for Melfest. I don’t feel we have a Eurovision winner among this bunch. Anyway my thoughts on potential winners: Eric Saade – This is definitely a world class performance and the instrumentation is incredibly modern. However, if I close my eyes the song is borderline unlistenable. Eric spends three minutes basically bragging about how horny he is and his vocals are very exposed due to the minimalist production. I think this is the best option for a good Swedish result but nothing new. Dotter – Imo, “Little Tot”… Read more »

It’s between Eric and Dotter. The Mamas are out of the question, they got 1 year to lose some weight and they didn’t… They’re not certified for Eurovision. I prefere Eric Saade for the win, he looks and sings perfectly, he’s got the whole package!

I see the difference between what should be and what I like to be. For example, I’d choose banana over avocado, because I like banana more, but I should choose avocado becaude its better for me. Same here… I like Dotter’s song, but I think Erik should win, because his song has better chances to get points from both juries and public (especially jury)… so.. yep, there is difference between what should be and what I like to be 🙂 And question in the poll was who SHoULD win and not who you like best

Dotter has ZERO “artsiness” this time 😀 It’s ok to like some singer, but you should be realistic. Whoever win hope he/she will enjoy his victory and use it wisely for their carier, but it’s a fact that Dotter is not the best this year and she is 100% NOT going to win, despite her fans wanting it so much, ’cause let’s be realistic, she doesn’t have the biggest fan base of all the contestants, she doesn’t have the best song this year, and she is most definetelly NOT the best vocalist either (very bad in high notes). The question just above the poll is phrased as “Who should win” and not “who do you think will win”. To me this strongly implies who you personally think deserves to win or, more specifically, who do you want to win. There is therefore nothing incorrect in voting for who people personally would like to see win melodifestivalen.

Who would’ve thought last year when Dotter lost by 1 point that we’d still have a chance to make #Dotterdam happen? Who would’ve thought after reading her song title is “Little Tot” and that it sounded like a lullaby, that she’d actually come back with an overall entry just as worthy of winning as Bulletpoof? My favorite is Dotter.
If Clara with C ends up to be selected they’ll have to fix the staging asap. I get why the song is so popular (even though it’s totally not for me) and that many international fans don’t want “polished acts” anymore after the last 5 years. But honestly this might do an Anna Bergendahl in the Rotterdam semi, if they don’t lift the visuals up (backdrop, lightning, outfit). Clara seems really nice, but that ship will sink in Rotterdam harbor…

Last year I wasn´t the biggest Dotter fans since I prefered Anna and the Mamas. But this year it should be her.

Hade velat ha lite mer Veronica Maggio feeling.

We’ll see if some changes will be made. Usually changes are rare. Because the performance in the semifinal is what took them to the final in the first place of course. But if there is any it’s usually the lighting, camerawork, clothes and some moves here and there. So perhaps they will put some more light into Dotter’s performance. They did that last year with Bulletproof.

I’m aware of Eric’s song and why it’s popular, but I don’t want it to win. The lyrics and message behind the song is just too superficial. The first time I saw the ESC in 2007 Sweden was represented by a glam rock band. Then we had 12 years in a raw of generic pop (except for 2016) of different quality and two years in a raw of gospel-isnpired pop. That speaks volumes.

I think people forget that we/Sweden have had our share of complete falures from the year 2007 and 2010 especially. That was a period with glamrock and opera and Anna Bergendahl. Before that we usually ended up somewhere between place 5-10. Then we brought in the international jury in 2011, Eric Saade and Popular. I think it speaks for itself that popsongs with spectacular stagings became our thing. Perhaps we are stuck in it, but at the same time it’s a part of Sweden’s music culture. Look at what Sweden has produced world wide..

He delivers a pretty epic performance for a fairly simple 3-minute song. I’m sure that performance of Popular would still be top 5, if the dashing, energetic 2011 Eric performed it this year.

I see your point and agree. Saade is a great charismatic performer who makes anything work. And this time he actually has a good song. Had he performed with “Hero” he would have smashed it. Yes, they will. Juries will likely put mostly all Swedish language songs low. Denmark managed to pick a song in a national language due to it being televote only. Maybe Sweden could make an experiment like that for one year just to see what will happen?

Its a really good swedish song and she sings it well so imo they have no real reason to ruin her chances.. Then again the jury tends to go for the most generic songs like Tusses so not very hopeful. I think her staging is good on it’s own. The only problem is that it doesn’t really connect with the song. If one didn’t know English, they’d think that this is a song about seduction or personal empowerment. The song is actually about disappointment in her generation and a plea for the next one to do better. And that’s not easily deducted from this staging.

I don’t agree with this line of thinking. Imagine seeing a music video of a sad clown, sitting in the rain, singing about how happy he is. You wouldn’t say, I hope, that it’s not easy to deduct from the video that the song actually is about happiness. No, you would say that the video either reveals the actual meaning of the song, or that the video changes the meaning of the song. The visual medium is rarely supposed to simply restate the message of the song. Rather it is there to recontextualize it. You say “If one didn’t know… Read more »

Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but I really like Dotter’s staging. It is dark and stylised, for me it is getting across the message of “you don’t wanna be like us” – the focus on the iconic pop star, the catchy hook, the heavy performance lead delivery (where Dotter shakes her head from side to side). For me the performance is asking us some difficult questions – is it right for us to idolize pop stars? Should we be putting such people on a pedestal?
