bbc-eurovision-2021-commentary-team

It’s just over one month until Eurovision 2021 kicks off and the BBC has confirmed the dream team that will provide the UK commentary. Graham Norton will again deliver the UK’s grand final commentary. Scott Mills and Rylan Clark-Neal will also return to the commentary role for the semi-final commentary and this year they’ll be joined by Chelcee Grimes.

Graham Norton will be travelling to Rotterdam to deliver the grand final commentary live on 22 May. The popular UK TV host has been the British commentator since 2009. Norton is looking forward to his May gig and had praise for James Newman’s entry:

“I’m so excited for Eurovision to return, after the past year we’ve had it’s exactly the kind of joy the world needs. The UK have a great entry with James Newman and “Embers”, it’s a banger and represents everything that Eurovision is. It’s arguably the best night of the year and I can’t wait — bring it on!”

Fans of Graham Norton last saw him making a cameo appearance in the Netflix film Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga.

Chelcee Grimes joins UK semi-final commentary team

This year, the semi-final commentators will be staying in the UK, delivering their commentary from a London studio. Scott Mills and Rylan Clark-Neal will return as commentators for the two semi-finals.

They’ll also be joined by newcomer Chelcee Grimes. She’s a singer-songwriter, footballer and TV host. Chelcee also has a connection to one of the competing acts of Eurovision 2021. Chelcee co-wrote Roxen’s November single “Wonderland” along with Alexander Rybak.

Like Rylan, Chelcee is a big Eurovision fan. She said, “I have always been a fan of Eurovision, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I’m looking forward to seeing all the weird and wonderful performances, as well as cheering on my mate James who is waving the flag for the UK! JAMES TO WIN!”

Ken Bruce will again present the UK’s radio commentary on BBC Radio 2.

The BBC has also revealed who will be delivering the UK’s 12 points at the grand final. UK personality Amanda Holden will deliver the points for the UK jury. She’s best known as being one of the judges on Britain’s Got Talent.

What do you think? Who else would you like to hear in the commentary booths this year? Have your say in the comments section below!

Justice for Mel Giedroyc!

It’s all about the presenters with the BBC. The contest is just their vehicle. That’s a large part of the UK’s problem. The songs and artists should be what matters more. We really don’t need any presenters with just 45 seconds between songs.

They are a good as they recent entries, demeaning the other contries’ songs, and praising their own fast food.

I am not a big fan of Rylan, i think he’s too much and tries to make Eurovision ever campier than it currently is. He needs to understand that BBC should change the perception of Eurovision in the country. Excited about the new lady who is a fan but 3 commentators is a bit much for semifinals lol. VERY excited about Amanda Holden. She’s extremely well know in UK, so good to see A-listers being involved somehow in the contest. I think she would be a good presenter if UK ever wins. I reminds me when Nigella presented the votes… Read more »

She’s okay but she’s not A-list. You can’t be A-list if your main claim to fame is being a reality TV judge. In my book an A-lister is someone you hardly ever see on TV, like Kate Bush or Sade Adu.

I’m glad that Rylan is still involved though, however, I do not care at all for Amanda Holden doing the votes for Eurovision in any capacity, Graham Norton needs to go ASAP, I am sick of his inane digs at the contest and competitor’s, he’s OK on Rupauls Drag Race UK and his talk show but aside from that, no. The new girl, I think she’s a Sara Pascoe situation, around for a year or two and then gone. Get rid of Norton. Make Rylan commentator for all 3 shows, and place him alongside some like Emma Willis or Michelle… Read more »

What is it that qualifies Amanda Holden to be a BBC spokesperson? Have a real BBC personality deliver the points, someone like Stephen Sackur. John Newman would be nice too. I’d also like to watch Deban delivering the points. There are so many options.

Deban? As in wiwibloggs Deban? Well, why? UK is not San Marino.

John Newman wouldn’t like to be involved with ESC.

Amanda is excellent, it’s not like she’s going to perform. She’s a very famous celebrity/TV personality in UK so it’s always good to have A-listers involved even in this role.

I’m intrigued by the new commentator, she sounds like she could be fresh and interesting take on it, though three sounds a bit too much. I see she’s also a footballer, and has presented Match of the Day! However, it’s disappointing they’ve chosen Amanda Holden, never really liked her. I find her very phony and part of that tacky ITV mob, especially if she’s been derogatory towards the contest. Didn’t she cheat on Les Dennis? They should let Danny Wallace do it, he was asked to do it years ago and he agreed- but they chose Duncan James instead. He… Read more »

TV host and author, he did a show where he started his own country. He loves Eurovision, and did an episode where he met Svante Stockseilies to see about entering it. He also wrote Yes Man, which was turned into a Jim Carrey movie

It doesn’t matter what the UK do for Eurovision they always seem to get fan hate. If they sent Adele singing a song written by Coldplay with Ed Sheeran doing backing vocals it would still be received negatively. Give the country a break!

Oh god, that’s a lie and you know it. BBC has NEVER tried to make an effort for a big song with winning chances. They haven’t even promoted any ESC entry before the show to make it a hit.

Honestly I’m just glad that Mel Giedroyc isn’t on the line up anymore, I didn’t mind her general commentary on the semis but I couldn’t deal with her trying to make calling it “Eurovisjjz” a thing anymore!

hahahahah she’s funny but it’s annoying and very disrespectful, as if she is talking about an irrelevant show.

Mel completely disappointed me in the national final shows, she did a very clumsy job, as if she never rehearsed or took it seriously.

Anyone who believes in their country would want to see them win, regardless if it’s a realistic reach or not.

I think you just need to take that with a grain of salt. We know the UK is not gonna win, but it’s not like James’s song is Cry Baby (2003) level awful
