The 72nd edition of the Sanremo Music Festival has come to an end with a new winner. Mahmood and Blanco have won the crown and the traditional leoncino — the little golden lion awarded to the sanremese winner.
But will Mahmood & Blanco represent Italy at the Eurovision on home turf in Turin? The confirmation should arrive in the coming hours, during the traditional press conference that usually follows the final of the kermesse.
In case they refuse, RAI will internally choose another of the 25 singers in the competition, regardless of their grand final ranking.
Sanremo 2022 final results
The overall combined results throughout the week consisted of televoting, the press jury, and the demoscopic poll. All 25 finalists started off with the scores achieved in the four previous evenings behind them when they performed their entries on the night judged by televoting.
After the first round of voting, Elisa, Gianni Morandi, and Mahmood & Blanco advanced to the second and last round. Here all the scores were reset to zero and the demoscopic jury (33%), the press room (33%) and the televote (34%) came back into play. In the end, it was Mahmood & Blanco who emerged triumphant!

Who are Sanremo 2022 winners Mahmood & Blanco?
Mahmood will be familiar to Eurovision fans as the winner of Sanremo 2019 and Italy representative at Eurovision 2019. There he placed second with his song “Soldi”.
Blanco is an 18-year-old trap performer who has enjoyed recent success in Italy with albums and singles at the top of the charts, such as “La canzone nostra“.
What do you think? What do you think about this year’s winner? Would you like to see Mahmood & Blanco on stage in Turin? Tell us your thoughts below!
I just watched and listened to Brividi for the very first time. Phenomenal. Everything about it. Phenomenal. And their performance? Exquisite. Brividi deserves all of the accolades it receives.
i feel like everyone is sleeping on this song – i think it’s amazing and one of the better italian entries in the last 11 years or so.
Definitely and unfortunately the winner is not a song.
Why is/was Måneskin and Brividi so overhyped?? None of them sounds like an ESC winner. Okay,Måneskin deserved atleast Top 8, but Brividi should be at highest 15th in the final. Azerbaijan 2011 is a Ferrari compared to this Fiat.
Worst Italian entry in the 2010s and 2020s. Occidentalis Karma was very nice btw
That’s what makes Italy entries special: they don’t think about ESC, or about sending “typical ESC songs” (whatever the F* that means). And they do better than lots of countries who organise a National final with Eurovision in mind. “That doesn’t sound like an Eurovision winner” what does that even mean? How does a Eurovision winner have to sound? What the festival has shown us is that every winner has it’s unique essence, and for winning you have to be unique and stand out.
No, thats not what I meant. Måneskin and Brividi are not good enough to be a winner. They dont deserve to win.
Whatever song genre can go to Eurovision, I dont mind.
Millions of people are streaming their songs. Plus Sanremo Festival doesn’t choose the entry for Eurovison, but the best song for Italians. So your opinion has zero relevance.
Aaaand another misunderstanding… I didn’t say that. Italians should learn English soon
italians understand english very well, the problem is that you are unable to express yourself properly. Who decides what song deserves to be a winner or not? You? Does your music taste match with your desperate need of confirmation bias? If so that is ok. Ask to USA billboard top 200 why “Brividi” reached the 15th position last week, jumping over 150 positions in one week.
Though Italy does very well year after year (and usually it’s well deserved) and though I love Mahmood, I have to be brutally honest and say, with all due respect, that for me, this is a VERY boring entry and in my opinion seems to be a perfect candidate for the “host nation/last place” syndrome…
astia au gastigat pentru ca se fut in cur unu pe altu….
We haven’t heard all the songs yet, but I think this could actually win Eurovision. This is the best song that Italy has sent in years. If any country can win two years in a row, it’s Italy. Every time they send a quality song, both the public and the jury reward them. In some other years, this would be a clear winner.
Agreed. I get why some people don’t like it. It is not to everyones taste. But those who can’t see that Italy will easily contend for the victory this year are clearly unfamiliar with the eurovision audience and what works well on this stage. Of course there could be another contender for the win soon but given previous years competition, I doubt we will see Italy outside of the top 3 this year.
Top 3? That’s a pretty bold prediction. Remember we’re only 9 entries in …
You seem to be pretty certain. Don’t forget to bet a good sum on that!
I’ve listened and watched this again and again and it just leaves me cold. I don’t get it (and I speak Italian) and so would be extremely surprised to see this winning in May…
Good result for Italy even though it may have been more interesting for Eurovision if Elisa came first. Loved Matteo Romano’s song which eventually finished a reasonable 11th, though it deserved a lot better. If Sanremo was on for another week he may have won!
Tbh I liked Ciao Ciao one much more and it’s not even close to winning. This one is ok, but just ok. No idea how it’s first to win in odds
Me too. I liked that one a lot
Hm, the only song from this selection, that I really found interesting, was Giusy Ferreri with ‘Miele’, although her performance was rather lame.
I like this daddy and twink duet.
The dislikes just prove that you see it but choose to deny it 🙂
Haha that is the best description of that duet!
Mahmood is 29, so hardly a “daddy”.
Not sure about this. Seems to be on the boring side and forgettable. Definately not a contender.
Meh…
Italy really had a second win with Irama. I fail to see how this song can win ESC or even make it top 5. I love ballads, but I’ve listened to this over and over and I cannot get this to stick on me. If not Irama winning I would’ve loved Elisa to win.
Totally agree. Irama gave me winner vibes. Elisa and Matteo were also great.
I totally agree. When I listened to snippets of all songs Irama’s song had the biggest impression on me and I think it would have sounded amazing in arena at Eurovision. Knowing that it is wasted option makes it all even worse.
The more I listen to Irama the more I feel Italy chose the wrong song. They missed a possible second win for Italy. Absolutely stunning performance.
Yeah Irama was great. Very moving, very honest. I don’t know why Italy didn’t embrace that song, to me it seemed by far the best. The jury should have helped him a little like they did with Mahmood the last time.
Bored.
The song is clearly the best one of the selection, but still falls short of Italy has brought us the last 10 years, including from Mahmood. Very disspointing to discover that in this special year for Sanremo the selection was weak and the most modern sounds didn’t even make it to top five. Apparently RAI hasn’t learnt anything from last year’s experience or wants deliberately not to win.
Lol! I take that as a compliment Tibor :-). I know that my views belong almost always to a minority (but sometimes close to what happens… “Telemóveis” anyone?… 🙂 ) Anyway, just to clarify Sanremo is still my favorite NF (except FdC for obvious reasons). So I have very high expectations and particularly this year I was looking for something outstanding. Instead we had the same old school Italian sounds, which I enjoy, but would like to see something different, that’s all. And obviously Brividi will be at least in my top 10 and for now my nr1. But the… Read more »
Well, in my very humble opinion, yes. I wasn’t necessarily expecting more avant-garde but more quality yes. Other years had more.
I need a week or more to recover from the roller coaster experience that is Sanremo. Certainly my favourite NF every ESC season. And yes even though Brividi was not among my favourite songs from Sanremo 2022 it is currently first in my Eurovision top as well.
Yes this year the flow was way smoother than last year certainly. Especially in the final. I remember that during last year’s final I wasn’t able to finish all the songs. This year I managed to stay awake till the very end. Feels like being a marathon winner 🙂
Hahaha, wasn’t expecting to be called peachy, but I’ll take it!
On the other hand, I already lost parts of Sanremo because I was at work and had to wait until 6pm to leave (the show starts between 4:30 and 5pm in my timezone). But yeah, it’s much easier for me to follow. But have in mind that I’ll be anything but peachy when Australia Decides starts at 7am!
I’m definitely not fluffy haha But I get what you’re saying.
By the way, Eurovision’s final’s time in the Americas would be perfect for broadcasters to bet on it. Saturday afternoon doesn’t have big ratings on TV, I imagine a live show that makes people comment in social media would be a good choice. I just don’t know if it would be too expensive to get the broadcasting rights.
Definitely an interesting song. I adore Blanco’s voice. Honestly the live performance didn’t hit me as much as the studio version, but still giving credit to the best song for now.
It’s very beautiful, kind of old fashioned and modern all at once and two charismatic performers. What’s not to like, doesn’t strike me as a likely winner but I never saw Maneskin winning last year so what do I know. Nice choice.
Straight to my top! Italy never disappoints.
YES YES YEAH!!!!!!!!
I was expecting it and I’m correct
I’m so so so happy for those two. Actually I was wanting them to win and at the same time I was worried if they were not gonna win coz’ in all the national finals I saw, I thought one song was gonna win and another unexpected song wins. Only in Sanremo it was sorta obvious that Brividi was gonna win.
Also Blanco looks like Omar Rudberg
Hearing snippets of this song left me cold – but when I finally listened to the whole thing I fell in love with it. Amazing! Love those harmonies and how well their voices compliment each other. Deserved winner – this’ll go to the top of my list.
Sorry for me this song is boring. It nice but nothing wow(just like milion other ballad songs). They have good voices but i dont feel it.
Someone wrote “Brokeback Mountain Sung” here and it pretty much sums it up. “Predicate homoerotic” – you MUST like that. Maybe the big outing will follow in Turin or a deep kiss at the end of the song. And the bubble wipes the tears from the corner of her eyes. <3 Nevertheless, the song is grits and the mammoth cannot sing. ? But I begrudge you your enthusiasm with all my heart, really! ? Everyone is reached and moved by different things. In any case, the concoction here moves me in the blink of an eye. Leaves me completely cold,… Read more »

Sorry my coment ogle music Mahmood&Blanco the winners?to my have better singer . Credo che il Italiani anno perso la vera musica avevano bellissimi canzone è anno preso Mahmood & Blanco che vergogna ??
Sorry for my ignorance, but do the lyrics imply they’re talking about love to each other? If so, are these singers gay men? Not that it matters to me, but as we’re talking about Italy, I’m curious. If so, I think that would be an important step forward to normalise LGBTQ+ness in the country. Or is it gay baiting? … Or do the lyrics don’t talk about love at all? Just curious.
I don’t understand the downvotes. These are normal questions coming from someone who probably didn’t follow San Remo. Gurl, I have just found out they are two men singing about their respective lovers. I was told Blanco is straight. I think Mahmood is gay, but maybe I am wrong again. (If I am, please don’t lapidate me.) So, they would be singing about a woman & about a man. The thing is: everyone doesn’t understand Italian. There is obvious chemistry between the 2 singers. This is a romantic ballad. Is it any wonder if people think this is a gay… Read more »
Thanks for answering Tomi, and yes that was that was a genuine question. I did read the English lyrics, but I wasn’t sure abot its intentions – I’m still scratching my head at the fact that Blas Canto was singing to his grandmother in his song last year. LOL. Also I was asking because I believe that representation is very important in Italy. I have Italian friends who have moved to other countries because they didn’t feel comfortable being openly gay in Italy, so having an LGBT+ act winning the most important contest in the country would have been amazing… Read more »
May I ask how the voting on this site works? I mean: when I finished reading this comment I tried to vote it up. It was at 0 (zero) and it should have gone to 1 (one). Right? But surprisingly it went to -1 (minus one) instead. I clicked several times on + and there was no change. Out of rage, I clicked on – and again surprisingly it went to -3 (minus three). So, I was able to downvote 3 times a comment I wanted to vote up, but I wasn’t able to just vote it up.
Ot’s because when you load the page you see a snapshot of the votes. Then if you pass an hour reading the comments and then you vote, in that hours other people may have voted. So the counter you see when you click on + or – keeps in consideration the other votes received after the initial snapshot you got while entering the page.
Yes, but no. That doesn’t explain why afterward while clicking on – I managed to go from -1 to -3 and then back to -1 again. My clicking did that, not others while I was reading the comments. In this is something that happen with other comments.
The song is about the difficulties of love. These are seen under the perspective of both a gay and a straight man.
Back in 2019 Mahmood didn’t answer questions regarding his sexuality, he said something like ‘it’s nobodies Business’. There have been rumours and a lot of his Videos have homoerotic cues (and in the Video for the new song he Hugs a half naked guy…)
So, I think he doesn’t make a big Deal of it and probably will not come out as bi, gay,…
They are not a couple. Mahmood probably have a boyfriend, while Blanco have a girlfriend. They singing about the discomfort of not feeling 100% accepted. Their message is to feel free to express any kind of love.
Mahmood is openly gay, while Blanco is straight. They decided to portray these love struggles representing a gay couple even though the song could be applied to any kind
It is not solely a gayfriendly song. It’s the story of two solitudes, a gay man and a heterosexual man that share the same incapacity to express their feelings to the loved ones, losing everything. It’s a message of equality and one of the first examples of pop music where they tear down the virtual wall that always separates the sentimental lives of hetero & gay men, Now you have to start to watch the megahits of Blanco “notti in bianco” “la Canzone nostra” “Mi fai impazzire” “Blu Celeste”. He’s 18 and is the best selling artist of 2021, far… Read more »
What positively strikes me is that Brividi doesn’t suffer from any usual side effects when being translated from the studio version to the stage. The energy balance between the performers is impeccable, there’s no apparent intention to “crank it up” in any way — as seen for instance in the subpar live rendition of Elina Nechayeva’s Remedy with all the excessive operatic vocalizations. Brividi is actually full of quite difficult parts requiring great skill and vocal control — however, the song’s not about technical trickery and showmanship. It’s just an exquisite composition with brilliant harmonies that speak for themselves. In… Read more »
In my opinion Mahmood and Blanco deserved the first place. The lyrics, the original composition and their blended voices make the song quite unique. I understand many non-Italian speakers who don’t agree with this victory, but they are not able to understand fully the lyrics. Also it is wrong to say that Mahmood won, because he is popular. False, there were more popular singers competing in Sanremo, having iconic status (like Elisa, Morandi, Ranieri) or having a bigger fan-base (Emma, Sangiovanni or Rkomi having more streams). In Sanremo people choose the song and not the singer. La rappresentante di lista… Read more »
Congratulation Mahmood and Blanco!!! Is Mahmood the first person who ever won sanremo more than once?
Absolutely not
We had a three time winner competing this year
Just for info, Mahmood won Sanremo giovani once and standard Sanremo twice.
noit the first person ever, but if i’m not mistaken, someone winning sanremo more than once last time happened like in the 70s? so definitely not in reeeeeeeeeeeecent years 😀
I can’t connect with the song so far but I can’t deny how talented they are and what a great chemistry they have. It’s not a Eurovision winner but not a bottom 5 song
As it happens to all ballads that compete in Eurovision, many fans will “feel it” and many others will complain about it. I personally felt it right away, when they sang for the first time in Sanremo. It’s a very good contemporary ballad elevated by a great performance with all the (vocal and personal) chemistry we expect from a romantic duet. Too early to tell if Italy can win back to back, but I think it has potential to do very well with both televote and juries, especially if they stage it with some sort of narrative.
Perhaps not a back to back, but could be another 1–2, a la Denmark 2000 and 2001.
I would say Italy is now in the same position they were last year, with an entry that has potential to reach the top 5 and eventually win. To be more accurate, “Brividi” is occupying now the space that was for “Voilà” last year. It’s the first strong contender and time will tell how well it can do.
By the way, loved your comment below, it’s indeed impressive how the song and the performance manage to sit right between gentle and rough. Like when Blanco walks towards Mahmood and holds him by the shirt.
Sabrina you really think that it’s a strong contender? Why? If Marco Mengoni didn’t win or didn’t do the top 5 with a so much better song, I don’t understand…
For many factors, actually. The juries tend to be more kind to ballads than the televote, so I don’t see why they can’t get a result like “Arcade” got. The televote has showed a lot of love for Italy recently and some people will for sure recognize “the guy from the clap clap song!”. Also, this is the first good romantic duet since… probably Elina & Stig and Morland & Debrah? Of course, none of those factors are a guarantee of success and things like staging and running order will have a weight on its fate. But I would be… Read more »
Well Amaia and Alfred, Ieva and her boyfriend, we are not in lack of romantic ballads these last years….for me I can’t compare Arcade with Brividi, Arcade is well above for me, it’s powerful and make me feel something. I find Brividi very dull, it doesn’t stand out at all. Italy is not the best when it comes to their stagings in esc, but as they are the host maybe they will do better than usual however even with that I don’t see and feel a strong contender here.
I guess most fans would agree that Amaia and Alfred had a just OK song and the whole thing turned up looking more JESC than ESC (plus the running order was the final nail on their coffin). Ieva wasn’t singing a duet, the guy was… a prop. 😀 I can’t blame you or other people for having your doubts since you’re not feeling it. There are some fan favorites that never touched my emotions. What I do in those cases is try to understand why people like it. In this particular case, I believe it’s the combination of their tones… Read more »
I can understand but a combinaison of tones and a way to interact is not enough to make it a great song and a potential esc winner IMO. It’s not Eurovision voices and harmonies contest, it’s a song contest. Moreover for those who are biased (not you Sabrina), it’s not neither Eurovision country contest nor Eurovision singer popularity contest but Eurovision SONG contest, just sayin..
It’s so hard to affirm what makes a potential Eurovision winner though. I mean, we went from Salvador to Netta. Then from Duncan to Maneskin. In the end, it’s not about what makes them a winner, but about how many people felt they should be one. The thing is that we read here every single year that Italy is overhyped/overrated. But what if people that keep voting for Italy just happen to like Italian music? The same applies to the artists. If people love Mahmood and follow his music, they tend to love what Mahmood does. It’s not necessarily because… Read more »
Each eurofan has his own criterias about what could be a potential esc winner, personally I’ve never considered Maneskin as potential esc winners with their songs and at the end I was wrong so everything is possible. Which I find strange it’s the different way to treat some countries in this fandom sometimes weird, if Ireland or Portugal send a ballad like this, everybody would say sure non qualified, oh it’s boring, it will stay in semi and other but it’s Italy and Mahmood the winner of San Remo then it’s the best thing in the world and it’s forcefully… Read more »
Oh, I don’t like the negative bias towards some countries (and also genres) either. In the end, what we can do is to be honest and recognize our own bias so we can try to avoid letting it cloud our judgement. But the same thing could be said about people that are harsh to everything that doesn’t fit what they’re looking for in Eurovision, right? I don’t remember Ireland sending a song as good as this one recently (though they were the kings of ballads for a while and I love almost every one of their winning entries), but it’s… Read more »
beautiful song, i wonder if they kiss on ESC stage?? international journalists will def ask them about the queeer video.
Anyway, it’s a beautiful ballad. I cannot see it smashing televoting but it should do well with juries. Staging is important.
Blanco is straight and has a girlfriend so I don’t think he’s gonna kiss Mahmood on stage
I love this song. It’s powerful and beautiful and I love that Italy is embracing a song with a gay bent. This could well mean back to back victories for Italy!!
So, there is a gay bent after all. Even if Blanco is…… straight. I was told. They’re faking their gay love idyll to earn the audience sympathy & points. Is that it? Am I getting it right this time?
They’re not faking any ‘gay love’ lol. Look at the music video. It’s mahmood who is with another man. Blanco has a girlfriend. They’re not expressing love to each other they’re singing to their lovers together. And I think the fact that two men can do that is quite beautiful and something we haven’t seen before.
I do not understand Italian at all. I was under the impression they were singing a love song. I seem to have read on this very page someone else saying it was the very first love song between two men in Eurovision.
“They’re not expressing love to each other they’re singing to their lovers together. And I think the fact that two men can do that is quite beautiful and something we haven’t seen before.”
Oh my… I don’t know how to react to this. To me, it’s just weird.
A man or two men singing about love and for their lovers it’s something never seen before lol come on!
It is not solely a gayfriendly song. It’s the story of two solitudes, a gay man and a heterosexual man that share the same incapacity to express their feelings to the loved ones, losing everything. It’s a message of equality and one of the first examples of pop music where they tear down the virtual wall that always separates the sentimental lives of hetero & gay men
Ok. Now it all makes much more sense. Thank you, ngangongo.
I agree. It’s about feeling alienated in a relationship. Yeah it’s being sung by two men but it highlights the commonality of emotion rather than emotion for one another… Like that song I knew him so well from chess. Although that song has a gendered title it emphasizes that two putting can sing a song about romance without being romantically linked.
But how many ESC-viewers will understand the song like that: Mahmood singing to his boyfriend, Blanco singing to his girfriend? It’s more likely that their impression will be: they are singing to each other. And I don’t see anything wrong about that.
RAI just confirmed, ‘Brividi’ goes to Turin!!!
Great news! Thanks for sharing.
Congrats Mahmood and Blanco! It’s kinda obvious they will take the trophy as they are always in the top 3 every night.
I think it’s safe to say Italy will not suffer host nation curse this year.
It’s quite a dull song. Was this really the best?
I am wondering what kind of ‘music’ you usually listen to…
Depends on your taste. Personally, I preferred other songs in Sanremo, but this one has grown on me.
No! Please check out the other songs in Sanremo this year. There were so so so many good songs! I’ve added more songs from Sanremo 2022 into my playlist than any other NF ever!
Can I ask? Are Mahmood & Blanco a couple in real life? That would explain the obvious chemistry between the 2 of them… But I must say I don’t like the way they dress in the picture above. Mahmood wearing a tie & playing the man; Blanco wearing lace, being the woman… Not at all how I have experienced homosexuality all my life… Is a gay couple more acceptable if they pretend to be husband and wife?
Mahmood is literally wearing a skirt lmao wtf are you saying
I didn’t watch the video. I was reacting to the picture above. I don’t like their styling. That’s all.
This comment is just bizarre. Blanco is a straight guy and he has a girlfriend.
Let this be a reminder to everyone that toxic masculinity affects both straight and gay men lol.
Thank you for your comment Fast Food Music Lover. Toxic masculinity? Me? Right. We just misunderstood each other I don’t know exactly where or why. I was just saying I really don’t like the pic above & the way they dress. That’s all.
Good to know Blanco is straight. Few! I had started believing they could be a couple.
oh wow i am shocked to be honest.
“wearing a tie & playing the man; Blanco wearing lace, being the woman”
You’re in for a treat when you see the clothing combinations that MANESKIN wear.
Is that so?
I think so. They have a fairly genderfluid approach to clothing, which basically means that the types of clothing and material available to us shouldn’t define or be limited to particular genders. Ties, lace and leather for everyone!
Thank you, Jimmy. Yes, absolutely, everyone is free to wear what they like & be what they want to be. There’s no questioning this. Men wearing lace & skirts is great. No problem whatsoever. I had randomly watched a performance video of Mahmood & Blanco 2 days ago. In the end, they hugged. I thought it was sweet. This lead me to think that maybe they both were gay. There was obvious chemistry between them. That lead me to think: what if they were a gay couple for real too? Then I came to this article. I saw the pic… Read more »
It’s the final of one of the most important tv events in Italy, how should they dress? With t-shirts and sweatpants? They’ve changed 4 different outfits along the festival: all all Blanco’s were by Valentino, while Mahmood’s were by Fendi, Prada and Burberry. Mahmood wore a skirt twice while Blanco had a mantle on the first performance. Why do you have to make judgments upon a single photo? It’s 2022, you can research anything within few minutes.
My bad. I’m sorry.
Thank you. I would accept it. As I do believe you must never reject a gift. What I’d do with it is another story.
By the way, I don’t follow everything that happens within the Eurovision bubble & I was only reacting to 1 picture. No need to be so wired. I hope.
Since the start I’m not blown away by this song, it makes me feel nothing, and it didn’t grow on me during the week sorry hate me if you want but I find it boring and predictable, a standard ballad in italian with a rap part so what? Ok it’s well sung but what else, really nothing spectacular, anyway congrats to them and good luck in May on their home soil.
If some other two unknown singers sang this or if other country sent the song in this style it wouldn’t get even small part of hype of what this gets
I guess some people are appreciating it, if it is at number 6 in the top 50 Global Spotify.
If the top Global Spotify counted only the listens outside Italy, they wouldn’t be at this place, it’s the San Remo effect mixed with the increasing use of Spotify, as there was a Benidorm Fest effect where many of their entries entered the top Global too mainly because of local listens, so it means nothing internationally so far.
it is number 6 in the global chart because it is n1 in Italy with millions of streams.
Clearly
Trending on Youtube on many European countries. Those streams on Youtube in different countries are not from Italy.
Trending 2nd in Switzerland and 3rd in Malta on youtube is not surprising nor an exploit for a San Remo winning song moreover just after the festival, these countries are very linked with Italy and follow the festival as much as the italians.
I don’t agree often with you but on that yes, a song like this sent by Estonia, Georgia, Slovenia or some others countries would be totally ignored and probably killed by this biased fandom but hey it’s Italy and it’s Mahmood, they have an immunity I guess, the others not, don’t ask me why I don’t know.
Now welcome the downvotes.
What do you mean with ‘bias fandom’ for Italy?
Read some comments here…
You are so right. I’ve heard better ballads from other national selections but the hypes are totally different.
Weirdly
ESC 21 ITA VS FRA
ESC 22 ITA VS ESP
We dont even know what the other Big 5 songs are
I agree for Italy but girl not Spain…
Me it’s the opposite, I agree for Spain only, there’s not even competition.
it’s not necessarily what I want, but what I think it will be!
Will this be the 1st back to back win in 25 years?
No.
I’ll probably get downvoted for saying this but I hope Mahmood and Blanco decide not to go to Eurovision and that Rai selects Ciao Ciao from La Rappresentante Di Lista to go to Eurovision instead. Ciao Ciao in my opinion is a much more modern and radio-friendly song that is more suited to Eurovision than Brividi, which is basically a standard Italian ballad that we’ve heard in Sanremo a million times before.
They already Said Yes
Little late for that. They just confirmed that they’ll represent Italy.
Enjoy your downvotes. They’re going to Eurovision.
Nice that we won, it was with a rock song that was not radio friendly. When we send rock, biased fandom said we should send ballads. When we send a ballad, the same biased fandom says we have to send a silly radio friedly song (ESC is full of silly radio friendly dance songs like LRDL). When we send a pop opera song (Il Trio), we are 1st in the televote but juries kills us. When we send rock again, televoters vote us but for juries we are only fourth. While a song with a random catchy refrain, cartoonish costumes and little dance moves made by the sax/trumpet players is something totally unseen at ESC… (and please note: I really like La Rappresentante, and we’re all virally singing “ciao ciao”, but to say that is a fresher and more unheard tune than Brividi..)
Omg what a horrible top 3…. Elisas song was so dull… Thank the Gods it was Mahmood and Blanco that won overall then, at least it has some quality – eventhough it is Mahmoods least interesting song composition wise so far. Italy might scrape into top 10, definitely a top 15…but not top 5 at all.
your total lack of good taste is mesmerizing
Sophisticated, charming and soulful. I appreciate the combination of the gentle and the rough in the song and performance. In all sorts of ways, another fine Italian entry.
I’m at peace with the fact that people will overhype Italy to the top 10 almost every year, but this time around I really don’t get the hype. Hopefully they’ll be able to convince me at the big stage, but I can’t shake the thought off my head that if any other country sent this, most of yall would’ve been calling it a non qualifier from the get go.
I don’t think it’d be a sure non qualifier if another country sent it, but it gives me borderline qualifier vibes
This song is a top 5 spotify global Chart. Maybe is overhyped according to you
Mahmood and Blanco are by no means small artists that suddenly got one of their songs to organically blow up on Spotify tho. If anything it was expected that people would get behind them because both have a very solid fanbase and Mahmood in particular has a very strong track record as a songwriter and performer. But let’s be honest, this clearly isn’t even close to either Soldi or Andromeda (both of which I adored, btw).
I’ll be honest with you, I think you’re just a hater. Bye.
They May have a fanbase but they are not Eminem. Ranking top 5 in a global spotify Chart for a song in ITalian one day after release is a huge and massive achievement for a ranking constantly US/ English language dominated. So again, overhyped is a wrong word.
My point is that charts aren’t that telling of a song’s performance, but yes to the fan’s dedication. BTS for instance has a much smaller reachability for casual listeners than let’s say Dua Lipa, but BTS manages to constantly break records and achieve crazy stats because their fanbase is very much so dedicated to uplift them in every way possible. I really don’t get what’s the big issue in just admitting you’ve voted for a song because you like the artist and are biased towards whatever they release, we all do that
yeterday they charted at position 15 jumping 150 positions in the US top 200 billboard charts (including the United States). Maneskin reached the 10th position only after winning at ESC. This tells a lot about your lack of vision.
I’ll sound like I’m bashing it, though that’s not my intention (I just want to put you into context) but the streams Brividi has had so far are 99% domestic. Te Marqué Pedo, another song that’s on the top 10 too, is the same case: both songs are the most played song in their respective countries rn but virtually no one out of Italy and Mexico (respectively) listens to it :/

Italian results in ESC year after year prove there is no such a thing as overhype as you claim here: they send top quality songs each year.
Then I’m highly interested in getting to know what your opinions on Sweden’s entries are lol
Sweden is also super successful, what is your point? There is a reason why both Italy and Sweden get so much attention (or as people say “hype”). Although not always my personal favorites, particularly Swedish entries (which I find bland) we cannot deny that “hype” is justified and the result clearly prove that.
I was just checking, since unfortunately a lot of people around here love to use Italy’s track record as a way to justify their success but then on the next breath claim that Sweden doesn’t deserve half of their top 10 finishes. By no means I believe they’ve only sent bad or mediocre songs, but I just honestly find it incredibly suspicious that a country can consistenly place top 10, even with their weaker entries, and it just be based on song likeability alone. And before yall crucify me, I maintain the same opinion for Sweden and Russia lol.
Severe but fair
But where’s the proof that people have actually just voted for what they thought was the best overall package? If no further investigation was done, we might just have thought that Azerbaijan 2013 was a televoting success, but it clearly wasn’t as simple as that. I think I know why people here get so pressed when Italy is slightly criticized, meanwhile others are upvoted to heaven for speaking truly vile things towards other countries that constantly overperform. Fact of the matter is that almost every country east of Germany has a remarkably spotty track record while delivering both an objectively… Read more »
