Chanel Benidorm Fest

Ukraine remains the runaway favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, according to the betmakers. But look further down the table and it’s clear that Spain’s Chanel has greatly improved her chances of winning following a series of stellar performances in Barcelona, London and Amsterdam.

When we last posted about the odds on March 16 — timed with the end of national final season — Chanel was eighth favourite to win with odds as high as 49/1. Fast-forward to today, exactly one month later, and the “SloMo” hitmaker now has odds as low as 16/1 (at BoyleSports).

That means she’s moved past both Greece and Norway, who have been favoured by the bookies since the release of their entries.

Eurovision Oddschecker 2022: Spain’s chances of winning narrow

Chanel’s eye-popping performances have consistently stood out at the pre-parties.

Just last weekend at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam, she started trending on Twitter in The Netherlands as fans shared snippets of her performance faster than Chanel pops that thang  in the “SloMo” bridge. It was a moment

Another big mover is Switzerland. Marius Bear previously had odds as high as 119/1. But in recent weeks his odds have narrowed to as low as 50/1 at Coral. That’s moved him past the likes of Portugal, Cyprus, Azerbaijan and France, who previously had the edge on him.

In our recent interview, he told us via Zoom that his staging is really going to stand out in Turin because of its simplicity, promising that it will be completely different from everyone else’s. His performance tonight in Madrid isn’t make-or-break. But it is likely to influence how the betmakers perceive him moving forward.

What other changes have you noticed in the betting markets? Do you think that Chanel has a chance of taking this? Do you think that Switzerland could surprise? Or do you think that Ukraine has it all wrapped up? Let us know in the comments box below!

Oh for FFS. Spain is right in embracing their heritage, it’s very much a part of the latinosphere. But this outdated tr*sh won’t do in Europe. This is Cyprus 10 years ago.

Don’ t get why they suddenly act on odds after pre-parties. It is not much to go on. It”s literally parties with purpose to meet people. No one takes it that seriously. Only rehersals should matter

My guess is because it’s the first time some of the acts interact with foreign audience live and see their reaction.

Spain has been my winner ever since I heard this song way back on YouTube or Spotify.. Only Italy, UK and the Netherlands come close pour moi.. She has momentum and a slick performance, besides that a catchy song.. Douze points Espana!!

If Lena who “bought new underwear” won and Eleni with her Fuego got a 2nd place and even a chicken song won…Why this song can’t win? Are you listening to the actual song at spotify all the latin and reggueaton have a massive consume all over the world. If the success depends on the song we wouldn’t have Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears…!!!

Regardless of the usual overreaction of spanish fans and the fact that she mechanically puts on the same routine over and over again in every party, this looks like the fan w*nk of the season.

lol at the Karens being annoyed that wiwibloggs report about this increase. like whats your problem? Of course it’s worthy of posting it because it is significant that Chanel has gained so much momentum compared to other entries. I think Spain will be in top 5 or top 3 during rehearsals.

The only mystery here is why Switzerland and Portugal are so high in the category for winning Eurovision. I wonder if some people know something about their staging details…

The semi odds have her as NQ though. And personally I think that Croatia and Armenia will cancel each other out and neither will pass.

I wonder how the Spanish are treating her now she is liked? As terrible what happened to after winning the Spanish final. Generic song nothing original about it and the whole package looks very cheap but she sells it well but very dull unoriginal song IMO.

Spain will get its best result in a very very long time, of this I am sure, but I don’t think it’s enough to win.
It’s still wide open as far as I can see, and I still think this contest will belong to Ukraine. The real results will be who will come 2nd, 3rd… etc.
Ireland severely under looked in the odds …again. What a surprise.

Because when it comes to the night the Irish entry is usually a train wreck . 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021 where all shocking live . As an Irish Eurovision fan it’s consistently embarrassing

I dont see it belonging to Ukraine. I dont. Mostly because I think juries will not like them that much. It is not a jury song. And I also dont see viewers going all out for it either. It is less vote friendly than Shum last year.
I think the winner will be like 2019: someone who gets second or third in both groups.

Wherever she will land i am pretty sure she will get the highest points ever for spain it was 125 with the new system it could have been broken before but they never sended something like this with such a banger, quality artist and staging they will break it viva espagna viva chanel

I listened to all if the songs back to back in the car yesterday to get a feel of with songs I liked without the bias of a performance. For me, Spain is a really cheap song lyric wise that is only held up by Chanel, one of the best performers of this year. She deserves to do well based on her performance alone, but for me a winner should have it all- vocals (check) staging (I’m sure will be a check) and song (not for me).

I agree if she would win it would be great for Spain but the song will not become a hit. It is really cheesy, moreover is the whole concept outdated.

What do you mean ‘cheap song lyric wise’? I think the lyrics of SloMo are one of the few at this year’s Esc that make sense from beginning to end. Most of the ‘deeper’ songs dont make any sense at all if you just read the lyrics. They are just a bunch of words put together. Take Serbia, wow deep message, read the lyrics wtf is that???. Or Greece:” if we die together now I wont lose you for another”… You are right girl, kill your bf and most certainly he wont be with anyone else. Netherlands: “i’m hinding under… Read more »

For example the Swedish song speaks to me. It has message – yes it is simple but suits he, the performance and is delivered with feeling by the compare herself. The Spanish Dutch song delivered in Spanglish makes me feel embarrassed. The lyrics are cringe. No one can deny that. But as many say here – a majorly that vote doesn’t care or don’t understand it anyway. They only see an attractive woman with a very good dance performance and tons of charisma. So I also think she will revive a lot of voting from the televoters. But I can’t… Read more »

I would have preferred Tanxugueiras or Rigoberta Bandini, but I do not mind foreign creators or producers being involved. We live in a globalized world. There are many Spanish creators working in Miami and viceversa. I don’t think it is something bad per se.

Youre talking about a song being coherent. I’m talking about meaning. This song is like candy, tasty but unfulfilling. There are plenty of songs with a simple but meaningful message. This is fun, but that’s just it. Nothing we haven’t heard before.

I really like Greece’s song, but yeah. It’s not that the lyrics are bad, but what is say is really off putting. “But if we die together now, we will always have each other” That’s not a nice thing to say or sing.

It’s getting a bit repetitive watching her doing the exact same dance routine over and over and over again. By the time Eurovision arrives most of us will know it by heart, so that Eleni Foureira element of surprise (which caught everyone off guard back in 2018) will be totally missing.

I somewhat agree, but i think they will have a different choreography and stageshow in turin. And you also have to remember most people watching will not have seen the performances ever before so that element of surprise will still be there

Odds this year are absurd. I like to see Ukraine at the top as a support message from people in Europe, but this isn’t a winning song. To me it’s pretty clear it’s either Italy, UK or Sweden, Spain can narro as much as they like but this doesn’t necessarily translate into votes. I’m still uncertain why is this news since 28/1 is nowhere near 13/9; hype over math.

I lie to think that Ukraine wins because it is good, not because people wants to send them a message. It is a contest, not X-factor. If people want to support Ukraine they have other ways to do so..
But I don’t think they will win because I can’t see juries placing them in top 5. I think they will end up like Shum last year.

I really wish them well, Stefania has a different vibe but when compared to last’s year entry, it’s not a greater song. I think odds are reflecting sympathy and/or pity, but they are not winners for sure.

I really don’t think they have the highest chance to win. I mean they would be obvious winners but this is one year where I think the obvious winner isn’t the actual winner.

Greece’s song is very good. However, I can’t be sure that Greece won’t phaq up the stage like they did in 2017-2019. 2021 was an interesting concept that needed more work too. If they keep it simple, Amanda will be on top 10 guaranteed.

Interesting that nobody mentioned the bigger grower after all pre-parties and concerts and that’s CROATIA. Croatia was at 35th position before all concerts, and I’ve noticed that now Croatia moved up to 25th place and their bet’s are getting lower. That’s something, 10 places up. I mean Mia was really good at Israel Calling, a total surprise so I’m not so shocked to see people believing Mia in what she’s doing.

Songs about cheating are hard to sell. And the beat is pretty middle of the road. The choreography the male dancer does is the best part of it but it’s distracting. Everything about this song is not easy to get the public to vote for it.

Credit for her choreography that deserves praise. I feel Eurovision often lacks high-quality choreography and in the end what we are served to are either basic or cliche moves.

I fear that Spain won’t do that well this year. They deserve to be in the top 10 (for sure), but Spain’s momentum has been dead bottom for years now… I think people have let go of any hope for Spain (the general public), and this song is no different. It serves fantastic vocals, fantastic choreography, and amazing styling, however, the song on its own doesn’t exactly do wonders. It is a sexy, sensual “upbeat” song without any clear direction. It is more of a performance than it is a song, and this might hurt Spain because it’s only memorable… Read more »

I love Chanel, she is just giving her 100% all the time without losing that lovely smile. Being honest, in Spain we have been so disenchanted with Eurovision during the last few years due to artists not caring enough, or just RTVE being a mess towards artists that actually cared. In 2022… RTVE is trying, still a mess, but Chanel has become a breath of fresh air. It would be a dream for us if she ended up in the TOP10 so… fingers crossed, and thank you to everyone who has been showing their support for this gorgeous girl. The… Read more »
