Sofia Coll - Here To Stay
Sofia Coll – Here To Stay

Sofia Coll is ready to prove she’s a force of nature at Benidorm Fest with her entry “Here To Stay”. She tells you as much in her song: “Imagine me, levitating over Everest, controlling icebergs, spinning like a strong wind, I am capable”.

Using three languages and countless beats, spins and turns, Sofia is set to give one of the biggest shows in Benidorm. But what do the Spanish and Catalan lyrics mean? Find out in this post.

Benidorm Fest 2024: Sofia Coll – “Here To Stay”

Hailing from Barcelona, Sofía Coll is one of the newest names on this year’s Benidorm Fest list, and one of the few independent artists.

Her music spans pop to R’n’B and she plays with reggaeton bases as well. She sings in Spanish, Catalan and English. She’s also a dancer and actress, and has collaborated with Benidorm Fest alum Rakky Ripper.

Sofía took part in TV3’s talent show “Eufòria”, one of the most popular programmes in the channel. Miki Núñez, he of “La Venda”, is the host of the show. There, Sofía performed Rosa Linn’s “Snap” and Rigoberta Bandini’s “Perra”.

What do the “Here To Stay” lyrics mean?

“Here To Stay” is all about empowerment and Sofia letting y’all know that she perseveres: “Nothing will stop me from trying a thousand more times, until the end…”

But it’s not just about letting others know. Sofia wants to remind herself to believe it too: “Let me feel this, my moment to contradict those who forgot about me, this is my moment, I’m burning inside.”

Sofia Coll sings in three languages: Spanish, English for the international audience and Catalan, her native language. “Excuse me that I haven’t spoken in Catalan, one should never leave their roots”.

“Here To Stay” lyrics – Sofia Coll (Benidorm Fest 2024)

“for all of you that don’t speak Spanish
this is a message for the ones
that didn’t believe in me…
look where I am honey… I made it…
and I’m here to stay”

I’m here to stay
here to stay
I’m here to stay
here to stay, here to stay

muévete
abandónate
a este ritmo cruel
que no va a parar
fuera de control
una sin razón
un no sé porqué, para qué o con quién

Perdoneu que no he parlat català
i de casa no s’ha de renunciar
em saluden quan passo pel carrer
no m’atavalo dic “cheese” passi-ho bé

No me importa arder
ya todo da igual
es cuestión de fe no retroceder
y reconocer que jamás me he rendido

I’m here to stay
here to stay
I’m here to stay
here to stay, here to stay
ya no importará
si me llaman loca sé que es de verdad
abriré las puertas de la eternidad

I came here to stay

English translation

Look at me
this time I know there’s no coming back
nothing will stop me
from trying a thousand more times,
until the end

Imagine me
levitating over the Everest
controlling icebergs
spinning like a strong wind
I am able

Let me feel
this my moment to contradict
to those who forgot about me
This is my moment
I’m burning inside

“for all of you that don’t speak Spanish
this is a message for the ones
that didn’t believe in me…
look where I am honey… I made it…
and I’m here to stay”

I’m here to stay
here to stay
I’m here to stay
here to stay, here to stay

Move
Give yoursel to
this cruel rhythm
that’s not going to stop
out of control
without reason
I don’t know why, what for ot with whom

Excuse that I haven’t spoken in Catalan
and one should not forget its roots
people greet me on the street
I keep my cool and say “cheese, have fun”

I don’t mind burning
it’s all the same
It’s a matter of faith, not going back
and to recognise that I never gave up

I’m here to stay
here to stay
I’m here to stay
here to stay, here to stay
It won’t matter
If they call me crazy, I know it’s real
I’ll open eternity’s doors

I came here to stay

Wow, comments like these prove that misogynists, racists and homophobes are in Eurovision sites.

For all of you that don’t speak Spanish is so camp tho. Literally just saying what the message of the song it. ICONIC

This one lacks punch, sounds like the kind of songs Spain used to send not too long ago

Never understood the hype for this one tbh. Sounds exactly like the kind of song to perform last in the final and come 21st place in the end. It’s just so cliche to the point where it’s not even entertaining bc it’s like everything i hate about eurovision songs in 3 minutes. I want Marlena or Nebulossa, smth more left field and risky than this. This is about as safe as you can get

Not sure if I want this song to win Benfest, if it’s to hear and read everywhere “here to slay” “slay queen” and other the whole season, no thank you, I can’t stand anymore all these predictable and tacky eurofans expressions, and this act implies that. Nothing against Sofia she is great, the song is not unpleasant at all, a bit repetitive though, very camp but it has an audience for sure.

Agree there is something missing but I can imagine as there are over 30 seconds left she can still use that the Benidorm version will be different like Chanels version abck then

She will add a dance break, it’s obvious, she is a performer who can sing and dance at the same time so she will want to show it, in her last interviews you can understand that she will add something to her performance. But Chanel already did that, and last year we got so so much dance breaks in Eurovision so it’s no more revolutionary at all.

I know right? Why can’t young female singers just perform at Eurovision, why do they have to “slay”? We’re already getting “YASS QUEEN SLAY” over Cyprus, we don’t need more of it.

I’ll take “says Queen slay” over “mother is mothering” tho every day, because that’s just… disgusting.

Ugh…who started that “mother`’ rubbish, and when do they go on trial in The Hague?

I hate them both, but I think you’re right – “mother” is worse.

It’s so tacky and outdated now… but we will have to experience it again everywhere this year I’m sure as some eurofans have still a hard time understanding that using these expressions make them so corny, this more their camp taste it makes this community so outdated, the day they will understand this, we will be saved.

Honestly, if Russia somehow got back in to the contest, and sent a pro-war song sung by a “Queen” who “slayed” with a 90-second dance break, they’d be Eurofans who would suffer blisters from voting for her so much.

The fandom has been quick to jump to this or Almacor’s song. However, I’d 100% much prefer Almacor or a dark horse song to come out of nowhere because this song feels like it’s trying too hard to appeal to the fandom. It’s literally got EVERY cliche from a spoken word in English break to super-fem electro bop car crash and it DOESN’T work in this case. Looking at some of the other National Finals, there are MUCH better and more coherent girl bops that you could support like Anti-Princess in the Moldovan NF. In fact, this year, the female… Read more »

Anti-Princess is really bad tho…the snippet I heard was good but the whole track is a no…Like Sofia Colls song is 100 times better than “Moldovas bop”…however I agree that Sofias song itself is lacking somehow, so I would prefer other songs…but the live performance could change anything

I like Anti-Princess. It’s catchy and the pulsating baseline and melody gets stuck in your head. And the rap part has a lot of potential. I can see the song improving a lot live as you said as well when you see the final staging. What memorable thing do you remember about Here to Stay other than its poor attempt at fusion all the elements the fandom go nuts about? There’s almost too much to work with here and it’s an incoherent mess, a car crash.

I just don’t think there’s much of a cohesive song behind all of the bluster. Based solely on song, there’s much better options for Spain in their selection imo.

This song makes me cringe. It’s really the worst of the bunch.

Agreed! Spain’s got a lot of mature songs here and this song won’t help their reputation at Eurovision. A lot of people will feel alienated ironically.

It doesn’t feel authentic. It feels like she’s pandering all the time, which is ironic because the song is supposed to be about her.

I love how she threw in almost every possible cliché and Eurofans are falling for it. The only thing missing is a key change and she’s done.
Nah, I don’t want to see this at Eurovision – unless the staging is done extremely well. I couldn’t care less if she stays of not, because I don’t know her.

What’s wrong with loving clichés though? In the past few years there were quite a lot of “cliché” Eurovision songs that ranked pretty high in the Grand Final.

I think that’s the point. We’ve had cliche songs before but haven’t it again for the 99th time isn’t going to work AGAIN.
