We’re back in Brussels! Last week we heard the first four songs of Belgium’s national selection, Eurosong 2025, and tonight we will hear the remaining four as part of the second showcase. The artists will present their songs in a showcase studio with a small audience that includes the public, relatives, and even some fellow artists. Tonight, during the second showcase, Jelle van Dael, Mentissa, Stefanie Callebaut and Red Sebastian will perform their songs.

This year, the Flemish Belgian broadcaster VRT is in charge of selecting Belgium’s song. Thus, after a one year break, they are bringing back the Eurosong national selection. Walloon public broadcaster, RTBF, selected Mustii internally last year.

The last contestant who won Eurosong two years ago was Gustaph, who managed to bring Belgium into Eurovision’s top 10, finishing in seventh place. This year, the national selection contains two showcases, where the audience gets the chance to know the artists, hear their competing songs, and hear the artists performing one cover as well — truly showcasing their versatility and skills.

The final of Eurosong will take place on next Saturday, 1 February. The result will be determined by both the public and a jury.

Tonight’s showcase will be live — from 20:45 CET on VRT1 and online via VRT Max — but unfortunately the livestream is geo-blocked.

Eurosong 2025: Second showcase

Jelle van Dael – “Monster”

Mentissa – “Désolée”

Stefanie Callebaut – “Gloria”

Red Sebastian – “Strobe Lights”

Mentissa was disappointing. Red Sebastian and Jelle van Dael did surprise me in a good way, though!

First of all, after tonight’s national final next door, I’m glad at least these folks can sing and hit notes. Secondly, why is she sitting for 30 seconds—did she hurt her leg and then thought “maybe I can walk a little around the stage” Thirdly, Strobe Lights is nothing like Halo. He can actually sing live. And Halo was at least a fun radio track. Strobe Lights just feels a bit strained. It’s like someone took Gjons Tears and layered a techno track over him—and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Curious to see how these will change in… Read more »

Can someone explain what the point of these “showcase” shows are? I mean there’s only 8 songs. Why do 2 separate shows with a pseudo-stage setup and graphics and lighting to then a full fledged actual show with all 8 songs? Is this just so they get a feel for how the public and twitter-verse feels about the songs so then the juries have a sense of what songs to vote for?

Red Sebastian CAN sing
His song though… it’s not very memorable
Mentissa should be the choice

She’s a fantastic singer and with a song like Et Bam she would have won the whole thing, but now I doubt her song is good enough after all it’s a song contest.

Mentissa is a great singer, but this song does her no favours. It’s like she’s being asked to sing a children’s song. Red Sebastian seems the clear and obvious choice to send to Basel.

It’s a bit uncomfortable, it simply doesn’t grab me, sorry, he also looks a bit scared on stage. I don’t think the winning song is among these, but I would choose Mentissa, she’s the only one with an international fandom.

International fandom is irrelevant, if you’re not Adele or something. Look where all those international fans got Olly Alexander. What matters is the song… and it’s just not good enough.

As I replied below I personally don’t see the hype in Red Sebastian’s entry, really reminds me of Austria’s “We Will Rave” without the cheap lyrics, “Strobe Lights” has cohesion and clearly is written by the artist so that’s very positive.
Despite not being ecstatic, I MUST aknowledge that this guy can SING his heart out. I see why both him and Mentissa are the favorites and if he were to be chosen, I would be totally fine with it, both deserve it.

A very good selection, whatever goes to the grand stage will be at least decent.

(I meant decent in terms of quality – a representative that the country can be proud of.)

When was the last time Belgium had a song like any of the ones you listed? None of the songs in the selection are that. But Belgium is pretty good at elevating songs for Eurovision. Gustaf was a surprise winner the fandom had completely blanked ahead of winning Eurosong. People were so mad that he won over the two favorites. Belgium managed to turn that around and he finished top 10. Let them cook.

Désolée sounds really, really nice. However, I don’t believe it will be the winner of Eurovision. Mentissa sounds so great, she’ll easily get in the top-5 with the judges. I expect however a low top-10 score from the public. The song, at least musically, sounds a tad safe. However, it’s incredibly groovy and catchy and definitely up my alley and taste. My score for it is a 9/10.

I haven’t listened to the full songs yet but none of the snippets were really exciting for me. That being said, if some people think that any of these songs can reach the top 10 in Eurovision, I take that as a victory in itself (I’m Belgian). A top 10 is good. I would even say a final is good (as lobg as it’s out of bottom 5).
