The Eurovision 2025 season is well and truly here! Today, the 37 participating countries found out the semi-final in which they will perform and vote.

The draw took place in Basel and included the handover of the contest from previous host city Malmö to 2025 host city Basel. Then, the 31 semi-finalists were allocated to one of two semi-finals, taking place on 13 and 15 May. The ‘Big Five’ and host country Switzerland were also allocated to vote in one of the two semi-finals.

The live stream of the broadcast aired on YouTube at 12:30 CET. We’ve embedded a link to the live stream below in case you missed it.

That’s true, you do have a tendency to get sorted into the second semifinal. Here is the proof right here.

Country: #/# (Semi final 1 years)/(Semi final 2 years)

Austria: 5/8 (2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2022)/(2011, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025)

This is actually part of a larger study that I try to publish on here, but for some reason it didn’t go through.

You know what I just realized? We have the same Nordic groupings as 2015 but in opposite semi finals–2015 had Denmark and Finland in the first semi final, and the second semi final contained Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Ten years later, it’s flipped. Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are assigned to the first semi final and Denmark and Finland are nestled in Semi final 2.

The ones talking about the lithuanian diaspora, ur rlly tiring. It seems that they have, 50 mill people living there. I dont see, poland, romania, or other populous balkan countries winning the televote with nearly 10 times the population of Lithuania. Next time check the real Lithuanian immigration in those countries. Ireland: Poland, nearly three times more poles in ireland, where are those points? Romania, nearly 10 thousand more romanians, where are those points? UK: Poland, Ireland, Germany, Italy, France and Australia. Excluding the last free which have nearly the same immigration as lithuania, the other ones have, two, three,… Read more »

Tiring but it’s facts

Ireland for example always give their 12 to Lithuania in the televote.

Facts are facts. It would be tiring if it wasn’t true but it is.

Look at Ireland’s, the UK’s and Norway’s televote scores. For the last 15 years Lithuania has almost always been there 1st or 2nd.
In recent years even Sweden and Denmark are giving Lithuania some diaspora points.
It’s not about how many immigrants live there, it’s about how active their diaspora is. There might be a bigger number of Polish, Romanian and Belarussian immigrants but they’re not voting so non-stop as Lithuanians.

The news was announced today, so there’s a story but you can’t really predict anything without the corresponding songs. Traditionally, the countries in Semi-final 1 have done better than those in Semi-final 2, but there isn’t a country on that list that hasn’t also flamed out in a spectacular fashion.

So, the question is completely premature even if it is expected.

Very hard to say which semi is stronger since we only have 3 songs, but I’m happy enough with the draw.

Ireland has good voting partners there with Australia, UK, France etc who usually vote for us.

Great draw for Lithuania.

I just to hope it doesn’t end up like a group of death, we always end up there. I’d love to go j in not ESC fully confident that we’d make it.

A lot of Semi 1’s places are probably already gone when you count Sweden, Ukraine, Norway, etc

My point is, there’s always a chance for that to happen, though I hope it doesn’t happen to Ukraine, as I fear they could end up in a slump like those countries.
On the other hand, some of their entries have been overrated, especially 2018, which I don’t think deserved to make the final

It’s a basic math, the semi with more countries will always be harder to qualify from, so that means the second semi will pose harder path to the final. The first semi looks like it’s full of overhyped countries, so the stronger songs will probably be in the second semi
