The United Kingdom is sending a whirlwind of country-pop chaos to Eurovision 2025 with “What The Hell Just Happened?” by Remember Monday.

This trio of West-End stars — Charlotte Steele, Holly-Anne Hull, and Lauren Byrne — are bringing their powerful three-part harmonies, theatrical flair and infectious energy to Basel. Their song is a rollercoaster of emotions and musical genres, capturing the essence of a wild night out and the aftermath that follows.

United Kingdom at Eurovision 2025: Remember Monday with “What The Hell Just Happened?”

Remember Monday’s creation started when they were all still at school together, at The Sixth Form College in Farnborough. However, they first gained the public’s attention on The Voice UK in 2019, where they reached the quarter-finals under the mentorship of Jennifer Hudson.

Since then, they’ve built a substantial following on TikTok, amassing over half a million followers and 12 million likes. Their music blends country-pop with elements of power pop, drawing comparisons to artists like Taylor Swift and The Chicks.

What do the lyrics of “What the Hell Just Happened?” mean?

The song is a humorous and relatable take on the unpredictability of a night out … and the chaotic aftermath. It portrays a carefree attitude, embracing the messiness, the fun and spontaneity of life.

The lyrics detail the confusion, fun and horror of waking up after a wild evening, with lines like:

“Someone lost a shoe, I’m still in last night’s make up. I’m waking up like, ‘What’s this new tattoo?’

The chorus, with the repeated question, “What The Hell Just Happened?”, encapsulates the bewilderment, excitement and craziness of the experience.

They had a chat about it all with our William Lee Adams at London Eurovision Party:

“The title came first. We wanted to write a song about what we might say, leaving the stage at Eurovision. Win or Lose, ‘What the Hell Just Happened’ just fits. The rest of the song has easter eggs and nods to our friendship over the years. We have ended many a night out in a tattoo parlour and Charlotte did in fact lose a shoe.”

Songwriters: Charlotte Steele, Holly-Anne Hull, Julie Aagaard, Kes Kamara, Lauren Byrne, Sam Brennan, Thomas Stengaard, Tom Hollings

Someone lost a shoe,
I’m still in last night’s makeup,
I’m waking up like, what’s this new tattoo?
Room is spinning,
Ears are ringing,
Clutch my pearls like…

What the hell just happened?
What the hell just happened?
No clue but I liked it.

1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4!

Broke a heel,
Lost my keys,
Scraped my knee,
When I fell from the chandelier.
Oh what a night,
I don’t mind,
It was time to unwind and I volunteered.

Look at me now,
I’m like usually keep it clean,
Beauty sleep,
Sip my tea.

What the hell just happened?
What the hell just happened?
Went up on the roof,
Jumped into the pool,
You should do it too too too too,
What the hell just happened?
No clue but I liked it.

Ripped my dress,
Called my ex,
I confess,
I’m obsessed,
Not the best idea.
Oh I’m a mess,
It’s a trend,
In my defence it’s been a real hard year.

Freedom!
I wanna shave my head oh,
Freedom,
Paint the whole town red oh,
Freedom,
I wanna kiss a stranger,
What the hell just happened? Ooooh
What the hell just happened?

What the hell just happened?
What the hell just happened?
Went up on the roof,
Jumped into the pool,
You should do it too too too too.
I know that I’m a wreck,
What did you expect?
You can blame my ex ex ex.
What the hell just happened?
No clue but I liked it.

Haha, this song sounds like an absolute anthem for anyone who’s had that kind of night! I love how they’ve captured the chaos and fun with such honesty and humor

I gave every song another try with no distractions, just listening, no watching a music video or performance video. On this one, I was delighted by their harmonies and liked parts of the lyrics. Frankly, liking only limited parts of the lyrics is already a win considering what many others wrote. Basically, I found something good in every song, except for Ukraine, Australia, Norway and Georgia. Although Latvia was also tough for me personally tbh. But even Slovenia didn’t make me cringe anymore.

Yeah, I’m having a similar experience with some songs. I try not to over-listen before May, because I don’t want to be burnt out before the contest has even started. They’re not all as bad as people have been saying.

As a lyrics fan generally, I’m pleased this doesn’t fit the usual generic….. so in love/oh my heart is breaking/ I’m over you, themes we hear over and over…… and over again in pop music.
So I applaud the girls for that.
And whatever the end result you know they will have a great time on the stage.

I’d like a sequel to this song, where CCTV footage reveals exactly what the hell just happened. Vomit. Spillages. Wreckage. Public disturbance. An elderly church-goer pushed to the ground. Near- misses with oncoming traffic. Encounters with creeps , leading to STDs and unwanted pregnancy.

The end.

Haha but the Guetta remix would ruin it.

Does Britain have an unhealthy binge-drinking culture? I think so.

I know this is just a bit of fun, but really. Perhaps for people in their early twenties. I guess.
