Interest in Junior Eurovision is rising across the continent, and today Italy added a bit more spice to the mixture. Back in June they revealed the date of their selection show. And today junioreurovision.tv announced more details. Italy will broadcast its national final this Saturday evening at 21:20CET on Rai 1 (Italy’s most watched television channel). It will also be broadcast live online, so all us JESC fans can watch from the comfort of our homes. Holla.

The national selection will take place on ‘Ti lascio una canzone’, a much loved Italian television program. Previous child stars to compete on the show include Federica Falzon and last year’s winner Vincenzo Cantiello. Il Volo has also taken part in the show.

JESC 2015: Italy’s national selection format

Ten children, who competed on the show in the past, will compete for the shot at JESC glory. The show will be divided into three separate rounds.

  • Round One will put the ten contestants against one another, where the five child singers, along with a wildcard, will advance to the next stage.
  • Round Two will have the six contestants sing a medley together. A combined jury-televote will each select their favourites, with the top two advancing to the last stage.
  • Round Three will have the top two singers battle it out, where the winner will only be decided from a televote, and will head to Sofia in November. In case of a tie, the jury will cast the deciding vote.

Lots of Junior Eurovision fans will be pleased at the route that Italy is taking. Having three rounds to publicly select their entrant on Italy’s most popular television station on one of Italy’s favourite TV shows will garner a lot of interest of Junior Eurovision (and maybe even Eurovision) and help build hype for November. It is unknown when the winner’s song will be released.

So, who do you want and hope to represent Italy? Can Italy do a back to back victory? Let us know in the comments box below.
