After taking a year off from JESC, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has decided to return to Junior Eurovision. Over the summer the Macedonian broadcaster MRT announced that it had internally selected Ivana Petkovska and Magdalena Aleksovska to represent the Balkan country.
There wasn’t much info about these girls online. But thankfully we now have have their song “Pletenka” to fill in some of the gaps. The title means “braided”…and they have indeed braided their hair in the video clip for the song, which you can watch below.
Macedonian isn’t our mother tongue, but this much we know: these girls are following the example of last year’s Montenegrin act Masa & Lejla by serving some children’s realness. “Pletenka” is carefree and alive. There’s a strong Balkan dance vibe that will surely give some people the happy they need to start their day.
These lil’ ladies also work well together. They composed the song entirely by themselves. Some countries, like Australia, can learn from that…
Listen to the song below and let us know what you think.
Why is it that Georgia and Albania no one says anything about who wrote those songs? And they been known for as entries much longer. If you say bad about one you should say bad about all . So many good songs to choose this year!!
Republic of Macedonia for the win.Lovely girls, great pop song, great message.
My Top.10 so far:
01.Ivana i Magdalena – Pletenka (Republic of Macedonia)
02.Shalisa – Million Lights (The Netherlands)
03.Bella Paige – My Girls (Australia) – It’s interesting that Bella has a Macedonian descent. So Macedonia have 3 singers in this year JESC.
04.Mishela Rapo – Dambaje (Albania)
05.Mika – Love (Armenia)
06.Lina Kuduzovi? – Prva ljubezen (Slovenia)
07.Mikhail Smirnov – Mechta (Russia)
08.Anna Trincher – Pochny z sebe (Ukraine)
09.Ruslan Aslanov – Magic (Belarus)
10.Virus – Gabede (Georgia)
Renske, I think given the context of the history of the Australian entry, the history of Junior Eurovision in general with songs originally composed by kids, and the fact that we are talking about WiwiBloggs (the best place to get snarky and witty Eurovision commentary), you had every right to make the statement that you did. If you are throwing any shade at all, it’s not to the talented young singers, but rather to the evolution of the song contest (be it a good or bad one). If it matters, you do have your supporters! Keep up the good work!
This fun, butt their voices sound produced. This is better than Georgia. It can do well, or not…

To be honest, I don’t really care if children were involved or not in the songwriting and don’t bother to see professional songs. We can’t even know in the songs that children “have been involved in songwriting”, what there involvement was. I’m not really in to Australia being a permanent part of Eurovision or Junior Eurovision, but I have to say that their song is one of the best at this moment. It can be acknowledged as a break of rules because the girl wasn’t involved in songwriting but I guess they will declare an “Australia special situation”. “Pletenka” felt… Read more »
I didn’t want to shade Australia at all. Belle is such a talented girl and has a good song! I wanted that point out that the MRT did a good job by sending a song which is totally written by the children themselves and that the children have used their own imagination and creativity instead that only adults have written the song, which sadly happens nowadays a lot…
Mario aka Wikipedia up in here. Must you do this, still? Comments add no value!
7/10
I think this is the best song of the jolly group so far (Albania, Georgia, F.Y.R. Macedonia).
Who cares if it is written by the artist or not, almost every song in Esc/Jesc is not written by the artist
It’s a decent down-to-earth entry that doesn’t go on a splurge. The girls seem to have been involved in the creative process from start till finish and that’s admirable. They don’t have a unique vocal signature unlike other solo participants, but are at ease and don’t put on a masquerade: what you see is what you get.
I think it’s a load of so-bad-it’s good fun. One of my favorites.

Unnecessary shade to Australia. if you are trying to be acerbic and witty simultaneously it is not working. This like Montenegro of last year. Bad vocals and melody.
Why throw shade at Australia? Uncalled for.
I kinda like it.
