From Belarus, with love, to Poland. Our Wiwi Jury is feeling a bit of a throwback as we continue to go through the songs for Krajowe Eliminacje 2016. It’s the turn of Napoli with the song “My Universe”, which was notably already rejected by Belarus in their national final. You can see what we said about the song in the Belarus jury here and what our jury thinks of the song’s second chance below. Don’t forget to vote in our Krajowe Eliminacje 2016 poll too so that you can have your say on Napoli and all of the competing artists.
NAPOLI – “My Universe”
“My Universe” reviews
Jason: What else can be said about “My Universe” other than the obvious? Poland doesn’t need (or want, I assume) a poor man’s version of the amazing Zlata Ognevich and “Gravity” from 2013. Clearly much effort has been put into this entry, yet it comes across as a lazy attempt to emulate a previously successful style of Eurovision song. Imitation may be the best form of flattery, but recent contests have shown that originality is key.
Score: 3/10
Luis: If Belarus already rejected “My Universe”, what made them think that their neighbours (who generally do better at Eurovision) would take it to Stockholm? Back in January, I gave this song a 3/10, basically because of how cliché and unoriginal it is. After watching it in the national final in Belarus, I can only say this kitsch Zlata Ognevich rip-off, sung from Barbie’s boudoir, wouldn’t go far at Eurovision… nor at Krajowe Eliminacje, I hope.
Score: 3/10
Robyn: In the Belarus jury, I only gave “My Universe” 4/10, but somehow Poland puts it in a different context, worth a few more points. While “My Universe” still sounds like a by-the-numbers Eurovision song, the Disney princess experience seems like a better match for the drama of Poland than its edgier eastern neighbour.
Score: 5.5/10
Chris: Bearing in mind that NAPOLI only lost the completely legitimate televote in Belarus by 1,000 votes, there’s a nagging part of me that worries what might happen in Poland. That’s particularly because in this field, “My Universe” goes from being a stronger song to being one of the weakest. There’s a whole lot more interesting entries in Poland than a poor Disney-cum-“Gravity” rip-off.
Score: 4.5/10
Marek: I didn’t know my homeland is a recycling bin for losing songs from other countries. If so, we could’ve taken 20 better acts from Festival di Sanremo. Her voice isn’t that perfect and the only cool thing in the whole song is the prelude before the chorus. The lyrics also could have been better and more original. I can’t believe Polish artists like Stashka or Marta Podulka missed out over something like “My Universe”. At least we can be sure the highest place it can take is eighth.
Score: 2.5/10
Deban: Closer to abysmal than good, this should be taken as the universal truth. This song is lacking in direction, and I am questioning its purpose. Qualification or not, composers should be submitting entries that could fence off 40+ other songs. “My Universe” should have been quashed on its first hearing!
Score: 2/10
David: This is really good. A great song, a talented singer, and it gets a hold of you and holds you the whole way through. And the camera likes her. This will need more to be a strong contender in Stockholm, but with some work it could well be very good.
Score: 9/10
Antranig: This was one of the better songs in Belarus. It’s better than a lot of songs in Poland too, but having first heard “My Universe” several months ago, I have moved on and so has Belarus. This won’t be a problem for the typical Polish voter and Napoli might squeeze into the Top 3 here as well — but Poland have better options than a song that wasn’t even deemed good enough for Belarus.
Score: 7/10
We have 15 jurors in our Poland Wiwi Jury, but only have room for 8 reviews. The remaining 7 scores are below!

@WTF
That’s why we shouldn’t let San Marino withdraw, imagine that Danni Saucedo could have entered Eurovision
@Colin: Yes, I’m sure Australia or Azerbaijan would gladly recycle the rubbish that didn’t even manage to win in the UMK… Deluded eurofans never cease to amaze me…
NAPOLI is definitely better than Margaret in doing live performances, that’s for sure. The only thing NAPOLI needs to fix now is her mistake of singing “My Universe” a key higher than the studio version when she can obviously sing the song in the same key as the studio version live (https://youtu.be/vYaahdDGdfM?t=1m41s). Let’s not forget that both of NAPOLI/Olga’s parents are Polish nationals and so is she (http://eurowizja.org/?p=12628) so there is really no problem with NAPOLI/Olga “jumping ship” to Poland to enter Eurovision – it’s just like Helena Paparizou representing Greece even if she spent most of her time in… Read more »
I don’t really care about this song, but finally I have confirned that one song can run for representing a different country in the same ESC year. Note: when a great song gets robbed victory, I hope that songs without their winner take notice. For instance, half of UMK could be considered to represent Azerbaijan or Australia. 🙂
Man, this is bad!
love it anyways!
