It’s been less than three months since Jamala won Eurovision 2016 for Ukraine and the search for her successor is already taking shape.

The Hardkiss, who finished second in the Ukrainian national final behind Jamala earlier this year, have already started preparing for another Eurovision bid. And showing that they are in top form and ready to compose a winning tune, they recently dropped a new single “Perfection” — and it is all kinds of amazing!

The Hardkiss — “Perfection”

Lead singer Julia might sing that “perfection is a lie”, but we don’t believe it, as the song comes pretty close — at least in the genre of other-worldly progressive pop.

Julia’s haunting vocals pulsate over an infectious electro beat, while guitars and drums give this major rock edge. The track gets our blood pumping and our adrenaline flowing.

In the music video, Julia serves her signature avant-garde realness, complete with icy blue lipstick, a lip piercing and some very tight braids. Her instrumentalists channel Goth glam and just the right amount of anger. Altogether they capture the darkness of the song — these fan favourites really do know how to work it.

Julia previously revealed that The Hardkiss is working on new material to submit to the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision 2017.

The hype around The Hardkiss should come as no surprise — they won the jury vote against eventual Eurovision winner Jamala and are the band-of-the-moment in the country.

Perfection lyrics — The Hardkiss

Perfection is a lie
Beauty’s what we seek and what explore
Perfection is a lie
Just flashing lights and tears that overflow

Reflection is a lie
Beautiful and flawless
Paranoid
Reflection is a lie
Nature is the thing that we avoid
Reflection is a lie

We are the ones who know the truth
We are the ones who look inside
We are the ones who speak the truth
And it’s more than they can fight
Every morning they are telling us
What is wrong and what it right
Who’s the victim
Who is needed
Who to fight
Every morning they are telling us
What is wrong and what is right
Who’s the victim
Who is needed
Who to fight

The Hardkiss are amazingly talented, as they manage to make songs that are catchy and original at the same time. When will Scandinavia?

I’d like more NikitA with ??????(Mashina)
than The Hardkiss to represent Ukraine, but Hardkiss too are good. 🙂

With a song more like this, Ukraine could achieve top 10 or even top 5 next year. Will be interesting to see what they can offer, a good show for sure!

Well, if the hardkiss represent Ukraine next year, there will be a very solid chance in years that the same country wins eurovision 2 times in a row. So they must be at Eurovision 2017.

This song is really good! If they represent Ukraine with a song like this I predict another top 10 result for their country.
