The national final season is slowly getting underway and German fans are dying for a bit more intel about their planned national final. And while there’s still little information coming out of NDR, there’s at least one juicy tidbit to sink your teeth into. The all-man choir Hamburger Goldkehlchen has expressed their intention of going to Eurovision. And we can guarantee that this burger is well done.
The German national broadcaster NDR is set to make use of their previous selection format. Nevertheless, there’s still room for speculation on several details.
As explained earlier by German blog Esckompakt, there’s another name in the mix: the Hamburger Goldkehlchen.
The choir consists of 70 men. Founded in 2016, they quickly rose to fame — owing to their fire power and perfect harmonies — and performed on several popular TV shows. They’ve even been an opening act German singer Max Giesinger.
Apparently there’s already a potential Eurovision song in the pipeline and there have even been talks about their possible staging concept. Select people in the music industry have already heard the track and they’re convinced that it could become a successful hit song.
Just a few days ago, they performed at the German radio awards show. And the choir clearly underlined their talent with a rendition of “Uptown Girl”. The crowd’s reaction shows that they resonate well with the public and could make any audience fall in love with them.
Hamburger Goldkehlchen — “Uptown Girl”
The most important question, of course, is how they’d perform altogether on the Eurovision stage. Long story short — only six of them would perform. That is to say that they’d represent the entire group. This would include the two founders Flemming and Max as well as four other members.
Interestingly, former German Head of Delegation Christoph Pellander, who was in charge of the German team until this year, is also part of the choir. That means the group know the ins and outs of the song contest and could leverage it to their advantage.
They’ve got the manpower, the song and idea for staging. But they need to be selected as the German entrant. As the German selection process gets underway, only time will tell if they’ll make the shortlist.
What do you think about the Hamburger Goldkehlchen? Are they what Germany needs to get back on top of the Eurovision scoreboard? Let us know in the comments section down below!
Amazing! Love these guys!!!
This is basically a petition for NDR to participate in EuroChoir 2021, let’s be real.
But it seems they are not trained enough to be in Euro Choir. I think they want Eurovision that we all know.
To select only 6, I see no problem. Things more cruel have happened. Timebelle (Switzerland 2017) has 6 members, but they went to Ukraine only 3. And the Herreys – Diggiloo Diggiley left at home the 4th brother. Poor guy.
Wow what a great opportunity for Germany. I just saw this article on social media and what a chance to make the ESC as a whole more watchable for new and authentic fans and less for sleezy managers of mediocre singers who know the ins and outs of the scene and push their just average performers…. sorry to say but so many of the contestants are mediocre and zero entertaining. I say let them perform and overwhelm Europe with their passion, I haven’t seen such passion in people in a long time and that’s what the ESC is all about.… Read more »
Their original comments must surely have been referring to the Eurovision Choir contest, not the Song Contest…because that makes no sense whatsoever.
Eeehm yeah… no, no… no… yeah?… NO.
While 70 people on stage to represent a country would be ridiculous, I do support the increase from a max of 6 to a max of 8.
It loses the spirit if they have to reduce to only 6 persons. These guys are doing it as a hobby. None of them is a professional singer.
But they can apply for Eurovision Choir. At least one other Eurovision event Germany is taking part
That would be very interesting! If there would be a way for all of them to shine somehow. Otherwise just 6 of them on stage with a great song would work in a fresh, witty and funny way. Huge challenge there!
While I find their yelling-singing style pretty interesting, I think there’s no point in sending just 6 members to Eurovision cause, from what I’ve seen and heard, their strength lies in performing in a big group, and the chemistry and gleeful vibe connected with it. But I think they’re perfect for Eurovision Choir, where they could unleash their full potential and based on the past two editions, they’d be a very amusing and exciting addition to the line-up.
I fully support the six person rule. I don’t want to see 26 short musicals or dancing workshops.
I totally agree with you! But you inspired me for a new show: Eurovision Short Musical Contest 😀 Let`s Do This!!! <3
Finally a fresh idea to modernize the format and make it more interesting. Definitely worth a try after the last years where the quality of the songs/artists weren’t unique enough and too similar to other countries. Anything that gives us an edge, is authentic and has good potential should deserve a try. You’ve got my vote for sure !
I agree..the performances were not really creative and unique. This could help to make some noise and have a chance… im super excited on what kind of song they would perform.
I love choir music! This could be soooooo good!! Now I’m excited. It could be really fresh
They could put their name forward for the next edition of Eurovision Choir. No 6-person limits, and can sing any type of song or medley within 6 minutes, they won’t have to compromise just to enter.
Yeah, but there can be max 6 people on the stage. Rest can always but tickets :v
i guess this is why Pellander is not hod anymore. he knew he will compete.
Could the other 64 still perform but be off stage?
No they can’t. People both on and off stage need to be total of maximum 6 people.
Maybe through the EBU’s genius satellite idea, originally proposed for Russia 2017. So genius. Not. lol
which one is Pellander? is he the one next to the guy with white hair, that stands behind the guy with red hair?
Yes 🙂
If their power is reduced from 70 to 6, will they be another Georgia 2018 or Croatia 2013?
Long as it isn’t another Les Humphries situation, I’m sold.
We already have Eurovision Choir of the Year, so why on earth should Germany send them to ESC?
Why not if they have a good song? It only adds to the diversity.
Because it’s not the first time that ESC had vocal groups take part?
