Ahead of Eurovision 2020, she had plans to work her magic like a true “Superg!rl” on the Rotterdam stage. And while coronavirus may have delayed her dream, Greece’s Stefania is now recording the five songs she’ll choose from for Eurovision 2021.

The 17-year-old star has landed in Athens and is recording with Dimitris Kontopolous, Sharon Vaughn and the songwriting collective Arcade Music. This is the same team that wrote “Superg!rl”, her empowering 2020 entry that mixed Greek sounds with feel-good pop.

Stefania shared a video on Instagram Stories that shows her recording in the studio as her team looks on. She added two stickers: One that reads DREAM TEAM, in honour of her songwriters and producers, and OH YEAH, which conveys her excitement that the Eurovision 2021 train is rushing full steam ahead.

Greece’s Stefania at Eurovision 2021

Artists grow a lot from year-to-year — and that’s especially true when you’re a teenager. Stefania, who turns 18 in December, will be unleashing a whole new level of fierce at Eurovision 2021.

Since the cancellation of Eurovision, she’s finished high school and continued releasing music. In July she shared the music video for “Friday” — the song that finished second in her internal song selection for ESC 2020 in Rotterdam.

Some had said her Eurovision 2020 song played it safe and that the music video leaned juvenile. This was completely age appropriate. Since she’ll be an adult at the next Eurovision, she and her songwriting team have greater leeway. Either way, it will still carry Stefania’s confidence, presence and love of the stage.

The Greek team certainly believes in her. As you’ll recall, Greece’s broadcaster ERT was among the very first to re-confirm their Eurovision 2020 artist for 2021, releasing this statement just hours after the cancellation of ESC 2020:

“ERT has already assessed the very positive reception from Greek and European audiences towards this year’s selection of the talented Stefania Liberakakis, as well as the cooperation we have had with her. ERT intends to continue this cooperation over time, as the EBU’s final decisions become known.”

Those lyrics still haunt me. To think that Yianna failed to qualify with a much better song and voice the following year but Demy advanced ahead of Norma John in 2017…

Their results I think, which are the best of any other team in Eurovision.
4 top 3
4 top 10
If I am not mistaken

“You are the only one” was a televote winner with the second highest score in the history of ESC
“Shady lady” , “scream” and “hold me” are their other 3 top 3 entries

Probably Mr. Kirkorov himself. The earliest example of the “dream team” nickname being used in this context (that I could find) comes from a 2015 interview for Vesti.ru where he talks about Russia’s 2016 entry and his collaboration with Sergey Lazarev.

9 songs and only 4 song in TOP 3 (2 in era of 100% televote, plus Azerbaijan 2013 ) and one song failed to go in final.

The have a televote winner, with the second highest score in the ESC history.

She is the best artist Greece has send since 2011.
She has the whole package:she is very strong vocally, she looks like a model and she behaves on stage like a real DIVA.
The only thing she needs now is a strong song.

Love her. Hope she sends something more like “Friday” instead of something like “Supergirl”. The latter was too childish and just too over the top… She needs something fresh and trendy.
