During the official OGAE vote — in which members of official fan clubs can vote – we decided to stage our own vote. This totally unofficial poll allowed anyone to vote for their favourites, regardless of whether you were in a fan club or not. We counted 27,005 votes and the results are in.

As you can see, in our unofficial poll the Nordics didn’t do as well. Sweden actually placed fifth and Norway eighth. In our poll, Finland did better coming fourth.

Our readers’ winner was actually Poland — with Jann’s “Gladiator” earning 10,040 votes — or around 37% of all those cast. Serbia’s Filip Balos and Ukraine’s Jerry Heil rounded out the Top 3.

How do people can still pay attention to OGAE contest? Every year people take this poll too seriously. Just let it be, no one outside of ESC fans know that this exists :’) And it’s not like the winner of this poll will say: “Wow! How nice! I’m the best of the singers that didn’t make it to the real contest…”. Don’t get too angry for this.

This is a site for ESC fans, so of course stuff related to it will be posted .
It is a given no one outside fandom cares about it, just like no one outside fandom cares about this site or other sites

I really do not care about this contest at all. I just hope these people don’t have any influence on the actual Eurovision. Sadly I think they do. They are considered the voice of the fandom.

It is getting pathetic over the years this huge bias towards Scandinavian entries. Loreen didn’t become and international star and those top three barely reach over a 1 million listeners. Eurovision is failing so the the Swedish Mafi@ which is running it….

my no.1 in this contest was ruta mur with her groovy 80s sound and this unique voice.
the songs from albania & portugal offered very good song quality – all three got spanked – ruta most!
top3 of the result are not my cup of tea but who cares…

Ruta Mur had a GREAT song – campy without excluding other groups, plus she sang EXTREMELY well live with eye-catching visuals and an interesting telephone box and skaters. I don’t know what the OGAErs are on?!

At this point, it’s impossible to be surprised that Sweden wins OGAE (or at least enters a top 3). The song is catchy, well produced (athough somewhat repetitive), so I can see why it’s liked. Still, for me, Finland should have won, with Italy, Estonia, and Serbia being quite close.

Air wasn’t anything close in Sweden. It felt off quickly from Spotify Top 200 in Sweden.
Radio stations there push for Six Feet Under more as well.
These 3 are still Top 50 Spotify months later in their countries. They had more imapact with locals beyond NF.

Air was a pretty big hit though. Reached number 4 on the charts and one of the most streamed songs of the year.
They also took part in RixFm Festival, the summer tour where the most played acts of the year performes.

Correctly, Nochentera is the hit of the year in Spain. It is the song coming from Benidorm Fest with the most listenings (more than SloMo).

It would be odd though if a Norwegian act ended up represented Sweden – in Sweden. I liked Air but I don’t think it would have beaten Cha Cha Cha. Israel would likely have won the jury vote.

It is rare that non- Swedes represent Sweden. But the twins could be the ones.
Besides Norway is really close to Sweden. And it would not be the first time Norway represent Sweden. Elisabeth Andreassen did it in the 80’s, although she comes from Göteborg

This is the OGAE second chance contest where you pick an unsuccessful song from your national final, as the UK didn’t have a national final, they aren’t in this one

Once again, the OGAE second chance contest shows how biased it really is. Almost every year, Sweden wins even if it really isn’t the best song. That is, with the exception of certain songs but even then they’re also Scandinavian. I mean, just look at the final results here. The top three are Scandinavian, even though we know songs from Filip Batos were universally loved. I’m a huge fan of the song Ulrikke sent this year as well as Marcus and Martinus ( I thought they should have been sent instead of their respective ‘real’ entries) but even I thought… Read more »

OGAE has clear bias or certain favorable taste towards some countries and music styles. Just like Juries at Esc.
Nothing really new or surprising.

Dominic

It’s usually the same countries again and again. In the last 10 years, Sweden won OGAE staggering FIVE TIMES, Norway won once (but also 11 years ago, so…), and Italy twice. The anomalies are France in 2019 (Seemone) and Poland in 2016 (Margaret). Just to add that Sweden was also 2nd in 2015, 2nd in 2016, 3rd in 2019, and 2nd in 2021. That’s NINE out of last ten editions being in Top 3. The exception was John Lundvik’s My Turn in 2018, but that also got a really good 6th spot. Norway and Italy also reoccur in top 5… Read more »

And then Sweden doesn’t win with songs that could have legitamately done well or even better in the contest. Take 2011 and 2012. I recently discovered Danny Saucedo. Most people agree he could have been Eric Saade’s replacement in 2011 and even won it – it was an EXTREMELY strong song…yet the OGAErs chose ANOTHER song to represent Sweden that DIDNT EVEN REACH THE FINAL OF MELFEST?! Where’s the logic there?! Sometimes I question what they are on!

Hold your horses! I am an OGAE member and like many of my colleagues, am neither snobby or snooty. I am proud of all the great work the organisation did in Liverpool, and beyond. I am not really interested in this type of “contest”, but having taken a quick look I am surprised Lithuania did not place higher.

Mello is a huge investment into Eurovision and bound to produce widely appreciated songs. Can be bit generic, though, and I found many more songs catchier than Air.
