Italy made us wait for its decision this year, but finally, we know that the one who will fly to Eurovision 2025 in Basel this spring is Lucio Corsi, with his rock ballad “Volevo Essere Un Duro.” Is Lucio Corsi a tough guy? We will find out with the next 10 facts.

Festival di Sanremo, the iconic Italian festival through which Italy also decides its Eurovision representative, was a real rollercoaster this year. The winner of the Superfinal was Olly, a familiar face at Sanremo through his previous participation in Sanremo Giovani in 2022 (where he won) and his participation in the main festival in 2023. He won with the ballad “Balorda Nostalgia,” despite placing second with both the radio and press juries but securing first place in the televote. After a week of intense consideration, Olly decided to decline the offer to represent Italy at Eurovision, choosing instead to focus on his activities and upcoming tour in Italy.

Lucio is an impressive indie Italian artist, and this year marked his debut at Festival di Sanremo. In the Superfinal, he placed second in the televote and first with both the radio and press juries. When asked, he was more than willing and enthusiastic to represent Italy at Eurovision

Italy won Eurovision 3 times: in 1964 with Gigliola Cinquetti, in 1990 with Toto Cutugno and the most recent one in 2021 with Måneskin.

Italy at Eurovision 2025: 10 Facts about Lucio Corsi

1. He is from Tuscany

Lucio was born on October 15, 1993, in Grosseto, a city and comune in Tuscany, Italy. He was raised in the region of Maremma. His family was living in a farmhouse in Val di Campo, near Vetulonia.

2. The son of a painter and a craftsman

Lucio’s mother is a painter, and his father is a leather craftsman. In the past, his father worked as a cameraman for Rai and, for a time, also as a bricklayer. The family also runs a restaurant in nearby Macchiascandona.

3. It started with The Blue Brothers

Lucio started writing songs at a very young age, inspired by John Landis’ musical The Blues Brothers. He began performing in public places and clubs in his hometown before deciding to move to Milan to pursue a serious music career. He graduated from ‘Guglielmo Marconi’ Scientific High School in Grosseto.

4. He is a model

Besides music — clearly something Lucio was born for — he has also pursued a modeling career. He has worked with the luxury Italian fashion house Gucci, appearing in numerous campaigns for the brand

5. He’s inspired by experimental artists

Lucio pays close attention to every detail of his art — from the album artwork to the music videos, and, of course, the songs. He is inspired by a variety of artists who have shaped his glam rock style, but experimental artists have also played a significant role. Notable influences include Peter Gabriel (of Genesis) for his progressive, experimental rock instrumentals, as well as Italian artists Flavio Giurato and Ivan Graziani.

6. He won an award for his indie music career

Lucio blends an intriguing mix of musical styles and genres, ranging from rock to progressive, alternative, blues, and folk. He is a true indie artist, and his achievements inspire hope for fellow independent musicians. His talent has been recognized and rewarded — in 2023, Lucio won the MEI Award for Best Independent Artist of the Year at the Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti in Faenza.

7. He loves his roots, fairytales and animals…

Among his numerous releases — five albums and two EPs — Lucio has one particularly special album dedicated to his hometown, honoring his roots. Released in 2017, Bestiario Musicale is a fairy tale-themed album, with each song dedicated to an animal from Maremma.

8. He plays numerous instruments

Lucio plays numerous musical instruments, proving he is a truly multi-talented artist. At Sanremo, he showcased three of his instrumental skills — playing the guitar, piano, and harmonica during the cover night.

9. He appeared in a TV show

Lucio made his TV debut in the Italian series Vita da Carlo, a show where director Carlo Verdone plays himself, drawing inspiration from his real life. Lucio also appears as himself in the series, featuring in four episodes during the third season.

10. His offstage life is… private

While Lucio speaks openly about his career, he keeps his offstage life private, despite the interest that followed his participation at Festival di Sanremo. There is little information about how he spends his time offstage, his interests, or especially about his relationship status or orientation

Come back for more exciting stories and facts about Lucio Corsi as national final season continues and we head towards pre-parties and Basel 2025 itself.

I really tried to like this song but I can’t; even if I wish best of luck to him.
I know this year there are many songs with up-tempo chorus and there were songs which were slow tempo but still strong thanks to their melody and chorus.
But this song has neither nice melody nor chorus, even if it has nice lyrics.
He sings as if he is tired, lost his energy.

And the 11th fact about him: He would bring Italy’s worst result at Eurovision since 2016 with its outdated and boring song.

You are outdated and boring! Unless you understand this beautiful message, you cannot comment

Sorry but do you really think that listeners vote based on the message of songs? Unfortunately they dont; otherwise majority of the songs who are top in the odds would be able to get higher Public support.
It is possible to send both more modern, not outdated but yet songs with strong message. Italy’s 2018 song for instance 🙂

The 12th fact: someone named Roger doesn’t like his song and therefore think it’s fair to ill-wish him (it’s not)

I believe I was harsh in my previous comment, sorry. Too bad Wiwibloggs doesn’t have a function of deleting.

The info about the modeling career is completely wrong.
He partecipated only once in a Gucci campaign toghether with a lot of other people because it was inspired by music and style of the 70s. The campaign was called Roman Rapsody and was shoot by the legendary Mick Rock. He never had a modeling career and definetely didn’t appear in “numerous campaign” for the brand.
He doesn’t care about fashion at all.

I don’t know why it’s called Indie.
Maybe his appearance is “indie”, but his songs sound very classical and light.

Nice to make an album about the animals in his region.
