Starting at 11:00 CET today, Moldovan broadcaster TRM will air the live auditions of the 50 songs selected forĀ the national selection O melodie pentru Europa. You can watch them on the TeleRadio Moldova websiteĀ here. Until then, let’s the discuss our five picks for the day.
After 68 songs were submitted to Moldova’s national selection, TRM’s jury selected 50 of themĀ for the national selection. Twenty-fourĀ acts will advance to the two semi-finals, which will be held on the 24th and 26th of February respectively. The national final has been set for the 28th of February.
TheĀ Moldovan broadcaster accepted foreignĀ applicants this year for the very first time, and they did not hesitate to submit their songs. UK actsĀ Kitty Brucknell and Asifa Lahore, both of whom also tried for the Swiss selection,Ā are the hottestĀ international names. Both are looking forward to showcasing their songs today, takingĀ to Twitter to express their enthusiasm.
@AsifaLahore see you on Saturday!!! Ahhh! #excited
ā Kitty Brucknell (@kittybrucknell) January 15, 2015
@kittybrucknell I can’t wait! I’m YEARNINGS for yooooou!!!! #Eurovision in Moldova š ā Asifa Lahore (@AsifaLahore) January 15, 2015
We also cannot wait to see these two ladies perform!Ā Kitty Brucknell has been a favourite of ours since she first expressed interest inĀ representing the UK (but wasĀ irreverently snubbed by the BBC), andĀ we hope that Chisinau will embrace Asifa Lahore’s song and personality. If at least one of these two acts will advance to the semi-finals, we will be happy! And it would be simply amazing if Asifa beatsĀ the odds and convinces the judges with her song “You and I”.
Kitty is competing with two songs, “Remix” andĀ “Yearning”, but the latter is widely expected to advance. Kitty is determined to make an impression from the get-go and hinted that her outfit would be anything but casual at the live audition. Colour us intrigued!
The fact that foreign artists have been allowed to compete does not scareĀ Moldovan acts though. Doinita GhermanĀ told the Moldovan press that the foreign presenceĀ should act like a motivator for the local artists to perform even better. She added, “If I’m afraid of foreign artists here, what should I do on the big Eurovision stage? Run away screaming?” Her song, “Inima fierbinte” (“Fiery Heart”), is aĀ hot Latino number that will help the energetic singer to wow the judges for certain. After all, Doinita is a staple of the Moldovan selection,Ā competing, Sanna Nielsen style, for the seventh time this year! (Also, expect to see a slimmed-down, sexier version of Doinita. Just saying.)
Another sure semi-finalist act is SunStroke Project, who already represented Moldova in 2010. Lead singerĀ Sergei Yalovitsky said that the band is feeling somewhat regretful of the fact that they submitted two songs, which means that only one can advance, but will leave this decision up to the judges. They couldn’t choose between the more mellow “Day After Day” and the “explosive” dance track “Lonely”, but if it were up to us, the latter should be selected for the semi-finals. However, it’s a toss up and anyway, both songs could do with a bit of polishing up.
Another strong contender is the little-known Cezara, whose song “Am devenit straini” (We’ve Become Alienated) is creating some buzz amongĀ Eurofans. The song was recorded in Romania and has Romanian footprints all over it. “Am devenit straini” was not written for Eurovision, but Cezara entered it in the selection on a hunch at the last minute. It will be interesting to know whether the singerĀ will confirm the hype at the live auditions.
Regardless of what their hype now, only the artists’ performanceĀ and the judges’Ā verdict will decide whoĀ advances to the semi-finals. Moldova, landĀ of wacky Eurovision staging, pointy hats, epic sax guys and giant dresses, is gearing up for another memorable year, and this is literally the stage where its nextĀ representative will debut their song. Are you going to watch today’s live auditions marathon?
Dana Markitan Love me or Nicollette Fyo my winner
I think Asifa’s song is a little bit of a “Rise like a Phoenix” rip off.
Excuse me used hard words don’t mean Kitty is amateur I just wanted to mention I can’t see anything with her and did not like her at all! Don’t think she’s so good and many orher agree with me I think cause there is many more much better than her in the line up!
It’s not to be a hater don’t like Kitty it is only musical taste! For me and many others she is an amateur!
Haters gonna hate but I would like Kitty Brucknell to win because what other way to get a better Eurovision than Kitty and Moldova. Plus also many Brits will vote for her so Kitty really is a good choice for Moldova.
Carolina Gorun with ”Sublime” should win!!!
Dana Markitan my winner <3 <3 <3
Thanks working now

Sorry about the TRM site, guys, it seems to have overloaded. Try this radio link: http://www.radiomd.net/2011/11/radio-moldova-muzical.html
(No image though I’m afraid)
I can not see it either
i want anyone but kitty!!! please moldova DONT send kitty brucknell
Guys, i can’t reach the website, can you guys see it?
i didn’t like doinita last year but her song this year sounds much better ,cezara is also good
I definitely think Donita Gherman should represent Moldova at the Eurovision. Her entry sounds wonderfully and I hope it’s going to go with a good staging as well.
Fanwank is not simply ‘songs that lots of fans like’. E.g. ‘Euphoria’ is not fanwank’. It’s the overrated songs that simple-minded fans seen to adore, such as ‘Yearning’.
And I’m fine with being ‘abnormal’ if that means I can appreciate good music š
one of Doinita, Sunstroke Project or Cezara will win
The right decision is send the Epic Sax Guy back to Eurovision. 2010 was a shame Moldova finished in 23th. Lonely is the Best song of all them.
@martin what are your favorit songs?
The UK did not snub Kitty Bracknel, we want actual talent. Not some auto tuned crap.
@martin so a fanwank is a song lots of fans like. so it only makes sense that some people who work on a blog might like it too. but you seem to like nonfanwanks, or songs that most fans don’t like. so you’re, like, the abnormal one. not those who like fanwanks. hand on heart: i am a big kitty fan š
This is my problem with wiwibloggs. They always overrate and praise the low-quality fanwank and dosregard the truly good songs.
Imagine how the British press would react if Kitty were to reach the semi-finals!
Kitty is not good! Eliminated in Swiss too welI. I think Nicollette Fyo with Love is from heaven will win this year in Moldova
Kitty Brucknel the best for me.
Ps. VENERA LUMANIA š Albania I’m cry. š
DonĀ“t like Kitty at all donĀ“t understand what Wiwibloggs like with her
Asifa is horrible. Sunstroke ok not more maybe reach the semifinal
I highly doubt Asifa and Kitty will make it to the next round, their songs are horrible. Good luck to Sunstroke Project though!
