Some stars leave us too early. Such is the case with Martine Havet, part of the five-piece group Profil that represented France at Eurovision in 1980. She passed away on Wednesday due to kidney failure at the age of 67.

Profil was manufactured solely for Eurovision. Their song “Hé, hé M’sieurs dames” may or may not have given rise to the Austin Powers theme tune, and their colorful rainbow sequins helped set the tone for a decade of bolder, more colourful Eurovision acts. They placed eleventh, and subsequently produced an English version of their song called “Hey Music Man”. The winner that year was Johnny Logan, who was not as coloful as Profil.

Martine produced another single, “Un seul mot“, and starred as Cosette in the 1958 adaption of “Les Misérables”.

We have Martine and her family in our thoughts.
