Timoteij Spread Like “Wildfire” On Their Debut Single As A Trio

They became a household name among Melodifestivalen fans in 2010 with their debut entry “Kom”. Then they returned to #Melfest in 2012 and crashed out of the Second Chance round with “Stormande hav”.

Three years later, they’re back. But if you’re wondering “I thought there were four, so where’s Johanna?” then you really need to keep up. Sadly, violinist Johanna Pettersson left the group last year to focus on her dancing career in New York. But the remaining members — Bodil Bergström (accordion), Cecilia Kallin (guitar) and Elina Thorsell (flute) — have made the decision to continue as a trio.

Composed by Cecilia and Bodil alongside songwriters and producers from Stockholm, “Wildfire” leans towards the melodic folk pop we all knew and loved. It’s a stark contrast to the dubstep and dance pop the girls dished out as a quartet from their last album ‘Tabu’. Like a Heston Blumenthal experiment, it sounds bonkers but it worked surprisingly well.

Some have pointed out it’s eerily reminiscent to Emmelie de Forest’s “Only Teardrops”, which makes it particularly awkward for Elina, the flautist of the group. What makes it even more surprising, however, is that “Wildfire” is Timoteij’s first ever single they’ve released in English! The only other occasion they’ve sung in English was the English version of “Kom”, which was done for promotional purposes.

As the name suggests, the single really has spread like wildfire since its release late last week, reaching the dizzying heights of #3 on the Swedish iTunes chart. Bodil, Cecilia and Elina have also been basking in the warmth and sunshine of Jordan lately, filming the official video for “Wildfire”, which you can see in all its glory below!
