The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has travelled to Denmark to review the songs competing in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2019. The next song up for review is Leeloo with “That Vibe”. Are we feeling the vibe she is giving off? Read on to find out.
Leeloo — “That Vibe”
“That Vibe” reviews
Cinan: This record is so different from all the songs we’ve heard this year at DMGP. It is a really catchy song and it makes you want to listen to it again and again. I can already imagine this playing in the clubs in Europe and of course the Euroclub in Tel Aviv. Maybe this is the song Denmark should send.
Score: 8/10
Natalie: I really wanted to love this song, I really like club music and this had all the hallmarks of being a great dance track. But something felt off about it, like it lacked a lot of polish. The processed vocal felt like a half-done gimmick, and the lyrics and production aren’t exactly mind-blowing or special. There was so much more potential and with some more time and care they could’ve made a memorable banger, but that isn’t what I feel we have here. I hope Leeloo comes back in a year or two with something a lot more special.
Score: 6/10
Robyn: This is the only DGMP 2019 entry that I want to listen to again and again. I love the cool feeling to the song, the zooming synths and the slinky bass, along with Leeloo’s vivacious vocals. Near the end, the song is at risk of feeling a little repetitive, but on first listen, there’s enough to keep it buoyant. I don’t know how well this would do in Tel Aviv, but it will definitely get the party started.
Score: 9/10
Florian: “That Vibe” does indeed give good vibes in the beginning. However, as the song goes on it loses some of its potential. The use of autotune doesn’t really help lift it up either. While the lyrics are a little generic, this is a nice track to take on the dancefloor.
Score: 5.5/10
Deban: Despite the thumps that’s packin’ here, “That Vibe” comes off as limp! The RnB-esque sass that it nods to is too 90’s to be taken seriously. The lyrics are also somewhat shoddy — “All that energy is as nice as Hennessy”. Are you kidding me? It is obvious this won’t make it to the mother contest. Eurovision is a family show that disallows any form of product placement.
Score: 3/10

Before calculating the average score, the highest and lowest scores are dropped. This is to remove outliers and reduce potential bias. We have removed a low of 3 and a high of 9.
MF Semi 3 snippets are out!
They are so good!!!
I lovelovelove this and I think that it’s very underrated by the fans. Idk why I love this so much becuase I’ve never been into these kind of disco- entries. The unstrumental is just soooo good behind this one 8/10
Seriously, I think the best from a average bunch. For me it is more like a 6.5; good but nothing outstanding or unheard. Enjoyable enough to be my first in DMGP, though Denmark will struggle with any choice.
This Vibe – A standard club song with generic lyrics, but a decent beat. Funny how Purple Mask says it’s ”Love it or hate it” type of song, as I am quite neutral to it. Too electronic in vocals (aka. probably autotune). – 5.5/10
Haha. Nice Freudian moment on the title of the song (This/That). 😉
It seems i’m mis-reading the love/hate aspect. However, the Wiwi Jury scores did have a high of 9 and a low of 3.
It’s in my top 3
“Anywhere” is still Denmark’s best option since the other fan favourite will clash with Norway’s pick (it’s obvious they’re picking KEiiNO)
I see this is very much a love/hate type of entry, which inevitably gets a 5 or 6 overall. For example, my cousin loves this track. But, I’m with Deban on this one – I’m just not feeling the “vibe” that passed by two decades ago. But if enough people love it in Denmark, this could be a surprise winner. You never know.
Actually, it is the opposite, a neither love nor hate entry, which is not the best sign.
Indeed. In my defence, the Wiwi Jury scores above have a high of 9 and a low of 3.
Bit harsh on this one. In this selection, it is actually one of the better songs. Somewhere in the top five I think.
Nothing about snippets from Croatia? ?
but did Saara Aalto qualify to the next round of roller skating competition or not, that is the question XD
Snippests from Croatia’s Dora are out!!!!
