They may have been off their game a few years back, but since 2017 Moldova have brought their very best to the contest, earning themselves two top 10 results back to back. This year, once again, the East European nation has opted to use their iconic national final, O melodie pentru Europa, in order to select their entry.
Meet the ten hopefuls
Prior to the live audition round, which took place on February 2nd, 28 entries were in the running to represent Moldova in Tel Aviv this May. That number, however, was drastically reduced, with jury panel member Cristina Scarlat claiming that she was underwhelmed by the competing acts. The 2014 Moldovan representative commented on the entries: “I’m very sad for now. There were some good presentations but what is missing at the moment is inspiration.”
Nevertheless, these are the 10 competing acts vying for the ticket to represent Moldova at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Changes in plans
Initially, Moldova had intended to stretch their national final over two nights. A semi-final scheduled for February 2nd as well as a Final the following day were to make up this year’s edition of O melodie pentru Europa.
However, due to what was, in the jury panel’s eyes, a lackluster bunch of songs, the planned semi-final was axed. This means that unfortunately we’ll only be treated to one instalment of Moldovan TV slayage.

Marcela Scripcaru – “Meteor” = Lady Gaga – “Always Remember Us This Way”
Yeah, not a great selection honestly. Stay and Sub Pamint are my favourites but I really doubt either of them can advance to the Grand Final.
Che-MD by far! If not them, at least Tinna or Lemonique. But I heard Lemonique revamped the song and it’s not that good anymore.

Sorry to say it doesn’t grab me at all.. Only song that gets me is La Cinema.. Hope that song wins..
My favorite was the uber-cheesy, almost Borat-esque “Ca Adriano Celentano.” Alas, Moldova has decided not to have a sense of humor this year so I guess I’ll say Vera Turcano. But I’m not happy about it!
It does not matree who wins. They will take a sub par song and turn it into a contender with creative staging.

I voted for Vera Turcanu as her song is at least okay and I know she will give us a good live. I agree with Cristina Scarlat – it’s quite a bleak selection. Not one song is a standout. Compare it to Romania, where my top 7 are something I would likely put into my top 10.
“Virus” and “Cold” but they are rather average, so they might not qualify.
I like many but my favourites are Virus and Sub pamint.
My favourites are CheMD and Vera, but there are 3 more songs I wouldn’t mind if they won.

This is probably the least enthusiastic I am for any NF winner. They’ve picked mostly the best out of the terrible lot, but it’s still not a great selection. As they got rid of the most awful songs in this NF season, it just got a bit more boring. There is just so many times you can use the word bland. I think Vera Turcanu should win this, but her song is merely okay and probably not a qualifier, unless her staging is spectacular. Sub pamint and Virus also sound decent, but a bit unrefined. Vera Turcanu is my winner, mainly because she should’ve won last year. Having shown the capability to have a good song at some point is more than most of these finalists can say.
Not putting Lume (and to a lesser extent, Ala Zasmenco) is ridiculous. Auditions were obviously a waste of time.
