Lithuania Semi Finals

After three rounds of preliminary heats, Lithuania has reached the business end of its revamped national selection — Pabandom iš naujo! Eurovizijos atranka 2020. Over the next two weekends, 18 acts will battle it out across two semis for eight spots in the grand final.

On Monday, broadcaster LRT confirmed which acts had been drawn in which semi. The acts in semi one appear to have been revealed in line with the running order. Semi two acts are listed in alphabetical order according to artists.

Well, I think the 1st semifinal is harder than the second one, as the first one is very polarised between “good” and “bad” acts. I mean, if you take the 2nd SF the qualifiers will be 99% guaranteed : Monika Marija, Monique, Meandi and Evgenya Redko. On the other hand, the 1st SF has a lot of same-level songs, which makes it harder to predict. There are a lot of other factors to take into account: less people voted in the 1st heat, more people watch and vote in the SFs, different type of viewers, some jurors will vary their… Read more »

If what some Lithuanians say about the younger generation starting to tune in to the semi-finals then maybe we’ll see some acts like Baltos Varnos and Kristina Jure drop out?

I’m rooting for The Roop and hope that younger Lithuanians get behind it!

Jury is smart. They know Monique is top2. Most people in my country who watch semi finals is older generation. Jury scared that televoters with these people can drop this song out before reaching finals. Kristina Jure – “My Sound of Silence” is perfect example of what voters like.

Dropping out Monique before finals? As a Lithuanian, all this more older people watching semi finals makes no sense.

My picks –
Semi 1: KaYra, Gabrielius, Alen Chicco, Ruta Loop
Semi 2: Monika Marija, Monique, Andy Vaic, Meandi

I’d say the first semi is even harder than the second because there are more songs which scored high in heats. The second one will show which M has the upper hand clearly. I wouldn’t be surprised if MM wins the televote and Monique wins the jury.

you think Andy Vaic is better than Evgenya?

I like his song better. I do think he needs to work on his performance, but the song is incredibly good on it’s own. It has such strong lyrics, memorable hook and a good balance of quirky and serious. Evgenya is also good, but I think it sounds a bit like two different songs blended into one. The song is still quite interesting and is my 5th of the semi.

I’m gonna have less expectations here because some songs might only get robbed after the semis anyway.

Well, Lithuania has now beaten Portugal in terms of having the more unbalanced semifinals of the year. I predict I’ll get very pissed with the results of the first semi. And I guess the second will show us who’s the favorite to win the whole thing.

Wow. The three songs to close out semi final 2….
Guess Lithuania doesn’t believe in saving the best until last.

Yeah, we’re losing some really good songs from SF1.

The semifinal two participants are organized in alphabetical order. This is not the running order by Performance. We will find out later probably within a week

They’ve put 1 first place finisher and all 2nd place finishers and 2 third place finishers and 2 4th place finishers in semi 1

So 8/12 top finishers are in semi 1
And only 4/12 in the second semi

This is some really bad allocation

The lowest jury score in semi 1 is 28 , whereas 5 songs in semi 2 have scored lower than this

haha is see. In Sweden we would decide it on the televotes more on the night before so its more even with the big names in both. You cant have the ones who got the most televotes in one.

I’ve done some math, and if we apply the jury scores and televoting results to the semis, the results should be something like this: SF1 1. THE ROOP – 24p. (J 54 – 12, T 2175 – 12) 2. AISTE PILVELYTE – 20p. (J 46 – 10, T 1692 – 10) 3. BALTOS VARNOS – 15p. (J 46 – 10, T 592 – 5) 4. RUTA LOOP – 11p. (J 45 – 7, T 523 – 4) 5. KaYra – 11p. (J 33 – 3, T 1240 – 8) 6. Viktorija Miskunaite – 10p. (J 34 – 4, T 670… Read more »

However, the way you predict the results doesn’t make sense. A televoter might have voted for one act in each one of the first three heats and all those acts might be in the same semi urging him to vote for his actual favorite this time. Furthermore, who will be the jury members will have an enormous influnce on the results. You know each person has its own taste. Let me give you an example. Migloko from last year… She was the favorite of the jury in the first heat and then she got 7 points in the semi she… Read more »

I’m aware of that, I did it just for fun really. Semi usually have a bigger audience, so the televoting results can differ quite a lot. The staging matters too – if for example Gabrielius changes his, I think he will have a good shot at qualifying. And judging by the Youtube views, Monique is probably gonna top the 2nd semi when it comes to the number of votes. Still, it’s gonna be interesting to compare this prediction with the real results.

I made some maths too, but I think it’s more a prediction than the real result cause in the 1st heat less people voted than in the other. The audience in the SF raise and the juries tend to vary their votes. Also, some acts will probably change the staging (eg. Gabrielius).

I think the semis will give some clarity over who will be the evntual winner, if they release the results before the final that is.
