Fans and delegations are all counting the days until Eurovision 2024 rehearsals commence. One of the most anticipated entries at this year’s contest is Joost Klein‘s “Europapa”. The Dutch hitmaker will close the second semi-final.
Earlier, it was revealed that Gover Meit will stage the Netherlands’ Eurovision act. The mysterious comedian and stage director kept silent for a long time on the act, claiming that if he saw the staging, he would likely leak it to the media.
After months of radio silence from the Dutch delegation, Meit has now given television programme Shownieuws a few titbits about the staging of Joost Klein’s “Europapa.”
“People will not believe that it is physically possible.” Meit said. “It is going to be a new form of the Moon landing. It has never been done before.”
Joost Klein climbs with bookies during pre-party season
While last year’s Dutch act had a less favourable pre-party season, Joost Klein has only gone up since performing his song live.
The Frisian-born musician showcased his entry in front of his home crowd at AFAS Live on 12 April. A day later, he flew out to Stockholm’s pre-party.
As a result, “Europapa” now sits comfortably as third favourite in this year’s betting odds next to other favourites Switzerland and Croatia.
After his official music video received millions of views within the first days after its release, and his song broke local Spotify records, Joost received the producer’s pimp slot for the second semi-final. This also means that his performance will be one of the last ones to be revealed to the press.
What are you expecting from Joost Klein’s “Europapa” staging? Do you think that the Dutch star can go all the way? Let us know in the comments down below!
we know in the Netherlands Gover Meit isn’t always serious, but unfortunately the international press is translating everything he says literally. He was punished by the rest of the team because he used the metaphor ‘moonlanding. But it’s the way he is, always enthusiastic and we can’t blame him for it.
Creative Director Gover Meit said smiling on Dutch TV that he was punished by the rest of the team because he compared Joost his TV- performance with the metaphor moonlanding, but no one is able to control Gover I’m afraid.
Gover Meit on Dutch tv tonight: they’ve been working on staging for months and it’ll be a mix between Käärijä’s liveliness and Salvador Sobral’s gentleness.
Joost will be joined on stage by his long time friends YouTubers Martijn ‘Stuntkabouter’ van Eijzeren and Appie ‘Apson’ Mussa.
Street saying that Kaarija could appear in Joost performance…I don’t know if it’s right or wrong but definetely a good way to get televote points maybe… maybe Kaarija will transform into Joost on stage or vice versa, reference to “physically impossible”, we’ll see, answer in one week exactly.
Some Dutch ESC reporter floated that idea a while ago, I think that’s where that rumor started. Now I’d love to see Käärijä on stage with Joost, he has been very supportive of him right from the start when Joost started his campaign to be the Dutch entry, but I do fear a lot of people would call it a cheap trick to cash in on Käärijä’s popularity.
I wonder if his parents will appear in hologram beside him? That would just be cry x1000000
Already 9 articles about Joost here on Wiwibloggs and the rating for Netherlands is not even out, so that would be at least 10 articles for Joost,
and only 7 articles for Jerry Heil and alyona alyona,
and only 5 for Moldova.
Preferences?
Joost just plays the game very well, releasing snippets of information at a time. This way there is always something to write about.
Just journalists doing their job, when there’s news they post about it.
The press is where there is something to mention.
Joost and team are just doing a great job.
This song is very deserving of winning Eurovision, even though it’s not among my favorites I wouldn’t be against going back to Holland next year.
I stick with my initial opinion. The message is nice, the song is of course fun and enjoyable but it’s also of very poor taste imo (and I insist on the imo). This song feels like an ode to cheesiness to me and as I know public will probably rank this first, I sure do hope juries will do their job and make sure this song doesn’t win. I’m not against a bit of fun in the contest but I’m not in favor of letting songs like this winning the whole thing. It will just hurt the contest. Anyway, I… Read more »
Gover Meit and Joost are both so wonderfully weird, I’m convinced we’re going to see something unique.
We heard that with Greece and Ireland once. But this guy is desperate to win so who knows
On my YT channel I get all those commercial adds for suporting Kaleen, Austria. We will rave.
How about desperate to win??? Thats just a cheap copy of old days raving.
I will rave with the best genuine beat. And thats Joost not Kaleen.
Who knows??
I’m convinced that Joost will win.
Joost is simply so personable and likeable, his content, humour & music has a Gen-Z edge but it appeals to all ages. I can already imagine Joost in the winner’s lineup, it just feels right. If his staging is as spectacular as stated, I have no doubt he’ll storm the televote. This is the most exciting act of the year for me, alongside Switzerland & Greece.
I think this statement is a kind of joke to mock a bit this esc world, I mean come on, “never seen before””hard to believe it’s physically possible” “new form of the Moon landing” don’t you see the 2nd degree in that. But also it’s exactly what’s excites the fandom during the pre rehearsals and Twan and the dutch team knows that very well, they are marketing again and again and it works apparently, but Eurovision is not only about marketing so Joost has to really deliver too on stage and even more now that their marketing raises expectations…this marketing… Read more »
Ey Yo, Joost and team are old Gabbers!!
They hit or miss.
Let’s open the Mosh-pitt, NOW.
As there are no rules besides we take care for eachother and if somebody falls we help!!
Let’s Gooooo…………………
If somebody falls this esc world is without pity you know…
I know, but Im from the time of Hallelulia sing a song, lalala and Love, peace and more lalala.
I get anyone on its feet who dropped nomatter what.
OPEN die Mosh-pitt!!
The biggest you’d ever made.
Its now or never.
imo you fall when you don’t try and keep it safe.
Go big or go home and I love it.
Everything or nothing, that’s a risk.
You win some, you lose some.
The technical rehearsals all-ready started
Lets do this.
I know but better to stay silent until the 1st official rehearsals imo.
They are very silent, the only thing Govert said, after the press kept asking him, is it’s going to be different, and innovative, we will see if he’s right or wrong. He is a comedian as well so don’t take his words too serious.
It was a just slip of the tongue.
Maybe a hologram of his parents?
Very enjoyable and pleasant to listen. But Finland is miles ahead.
In what universe is Finland miles ahead?
In the universe of quality and taste.
Thallo is a perfect example of quality and taste.
Taste? Grown up man in very tiny underpants?
Finland is cringe, tf is u talkin abt?
The comment sections on posts about the Netherlands are looking more and more like the winner of Eurovision comment sections every day.
You’ve already said this.
Regarding the Finland post, yea I commented wrong there. Meant to post here, but my phone was freaking out and I thought I was on this post.
I dont like these kinds of statements every year. Its usually the Greek that are saying such things. Anyway, it still makes me very excited to see their act. It will be fun for sure.
People don’t take Govert Meit very serious he is a Comedian after all… But I’m glad they have Twan in their team as well.
i don’t take Stefano serious after his appearance on The Traitors (De Verraders) with his overacting in that lol
also he looks similar to the Little Big singer Ilia
ja ja ja en dat doet’ie goed. Ey!!
Jij trekt zekers volle zalen……………………..??
That toxic cocktail of fear, jealousy and piss. People start wetting themselves.
Biti zdrava!
Same statement like always… Better be careful when raising the expectations so high
Remember 2021. Maneskin were accepted by the fans but there was something else topping the betting odds like Malta, Switzerland and France, and then the rehearsals happened and out of nowhere Italy’s chances grew up spectacularly. The juries favoured Gjon’s Tears and Barbara Pravi but people didn’t like seeing Destiny turned into a Lizzo wannabe while “Tout l’Universe” and “Voilà” were like many recent winners. “Zitti e buoni” won because it was different from the rest of songs that competed. Why do I say this? Because Joost is loved but it’s not considered the absolute favourite to win yet but… Read more »
Yeah, but it is hard to compare Maneskin and Joost. Maneskin did get enough jury points as they delivered a strong song, also vocally. Joost song is a gimmick, and he has no vocal abilities, in my opinion the worst vocalist of the year.
imo that’s BL
While BL vocal abilities are not perfect, at least he is singing a lot. Joost is not singing, rapping a part, and the most catchy part of the song is back track… Even his start of word “Euro” sounds horrible.
You’re confusing the pre parties and concerts with a Eurovision performance. Joost sees those as completely different. At Eurovision he’ll at least try to sing 😉
I’m glad they take risks. A song in Dutch even though it’s not the most beautiful language in the world, in stead of English lyrics to please the public, and probably innovative staging. It’s go big or go home.
It’s so stupid to judge Joost on his ability to sing a few notes on key. Lots of great artists aren’t necessarily great singers. Joost is a performer, he’s not a singer… not even really a rapper.
I am actually not judging, just responging about difference between him and Maneskin, and why, in my opinion, this can not be compared, and Joost will have a hard time getting any serious points from juries.
Isn’t vocal capacity on the list of things the juries have to consider?
A Dutch win this year will catapult ESC back to … where it definitely doesn’t want to be … a label saying … a gimmick show of dreadful songs and artists with no vocal abilities!
Someone says that every year and it’s always something so incredibly unoriginal.
Well, makes sense in this case.
We have this every year but this time I believe it. It goes so well with the over the top personality and song that I actually expect nothing less.
He better deliever!
of course Govert/Stefano goes for something over the top, like his own personality basically, always over the top dramatic
lmao
Netherlands could’ve had such a banger if only Douwe Bob kept This World Is Our Home for ESC, sad
I’mglad he didn’t
lol Nicky, arent you the one who is always over the top dramatic?
Sounds just like Russia 2016. All about waving shiny staging props around. And unfortunately, it’s gonna work.
At least for the televoting. It’s not gonna do much for the juries.
I hope so.
hoping for a nice televote 0 as well, to cancel dutch language for good at ESC
Oh Anonymous91 you’re in a vicious mood today! Do explain why the Dutch language should be cancelled. Such a silly comment.
Disrespectful, Respectloos, dankjewel ( in Dutch especially for you 😉
Opberen met je eindeloze geëmmer over mijn taal beschuitlul.
Eurovision always has entries like this one and sometimes these entries even win. It almost won last year. So i don’t get the hate for this one. It’s a fun super catchy song with a deeper meaning which I find very clever. I don’t think he needs special props or weird staging to do well. He has already done it with the song.
I think this is about the worst entry I’ve come across in the last five years … . I don’t get it – at all!
I love it now!
Can someone tell him that he should change stylists and hairdressers?
Upload a selfie so we can see how seriously we can take this comment from you
Hahaha.
You toxic ESC fandom make any humorous comment toxic. What a sad life Lol
Judging people on how they look is low
In my opinion, commenting that I don’t like a look, I think it’s not playing tricks on anyone, it’s a matter of taste. Trying to twist the words that’s low.
I cant wait Joostt… go go go Joost
Let’s wait and see… but I have a feeling they will go over the top and create a huge gimmick that most of the people will go WTF? And not in a good way.
Also, all this hype they are creating, it will be bad if they don’t deliver
This is exactly what I’m thinking.
People create the hype for them you cant’t make a song popular when people hate it. Even if you try very hard.
Low quality childish song 🙁
A childish song for which there happens to be much love.
It is charting in the Baltics, in Belgium and Austria. So the hype is not only among the Dutch as someone suggested in this comment section. It’s also in 5th place on the Eurovision scoreboard… just saying
Even if you don’t count the views from Belgium and the Netherlands (stats are public) Europapa is still the most listened 2024 ESC song on Spotify.
Its also very childish to repeat yourself all the time… Bye!
Not the producer’s pimp slot lol
The juries entered the chat….. they will not like it.. at all…
New form of the moon landing?
Who See just entered the Chat.
Off-topic: The “intimate” version of Bambie Thug’s “Doomsday Blue” has been released, and its a really great performance.
Thank you to ESC for releasing so much “extra” material this year. So far this other version of “Doomsday Blue” is my favourite. I was not expecting such a fantastic performance, bravo.
I a million percent agree. It is so so good and showcases bambie’s amazing vocals as well as gives the song a heart and one can really feel the emotions and reality behind it.
Not a winner but, I do see a strong televote result. 6th – 9th place would be a respectable finish. Irregardless how good the staging may or may not be, I just do not see the Juries voting in sufficient numbers to put this in a winners conversation.
Agree. Hopefully there are juries in this contest; otherwise trash and childish songs like this one would receive high televoting points than they deserved.
So you are saying a legitimate music style that adults go to festivals in their 10s of thousands, or 100s of thousands to watch is trash and childish?
May I suggests that people just have different tastes in music?
People over here should stop calling songs trash when it’s not their taste. All artists tried their best. Don’t be disrespectful out of hate or jealousy.
Good point, but maybe some jurors will be aware of the bad feeling last year’s jury result generated and not want to repeat that.
I see where that orginates but, sometimes, there is a premeditated consensus amongst juries. Sweden won last year with Loreen & Tattoo. Kaarija brought so much more than Loreen. Kaarija brought, charisma, character, fun, creativity, originality etc. Loreen even though she’s a true talent, all she had was a good vocal with a slightly above average song with faultless, extremely strong staging; so strong that it made the song weaker as it swallowed her. Jurors will always be jurors and will never give the dues to the “fun” songs that are quality that need the points over some songs that… Read more »
Your argument is that Joost is not commercially viable? Acts like 2Unlimited and Vengaboys were incredibly commercially viable? I don’t see why Joost cannot emulate that?
And you are saying Loreen was not creative? Or had charisma?
Do you know how hard it is to do what she did, while also singing? And singing laying down?
There is a reason most singers dont song laying down
No, on Spotify even without the streams from Belgium and NL, it is still the most streamed eurovision song, (stats are public) and I think (I am not sure) other countries are most streamed by the home country as well.
I’m so hyped!
Just to clarify exactly 50 years ago mouth and McNeal were favourites to win the 1974 Eurovision. ABBA beat them.
Fitting Netherlands reverse that 50 years later in Malmo of all places
They reversed it the very next year in Stockholm!
I think this year!s contest is rigged for Netherlands so that they can host it on the 50th anniversary of Dinge A Donge.
That actually does makes sense
The head of the Dutch delegation I believe was the actual contest executive producer a few years ago. So he will know how to wow the jury with staging and charm them.
This could be the last minute runner on the rail that blows the field away
No matter the staging this song is just childish and trash 🙁
That’s only your opinion.. many other people don’t agree with you..
But many others do, honey. This song indeed is very bad, whatever the delegation or others say. “Never seen before”? So was La Zarra’ staging last year. Well…16th in the grand finale is a good place for NL this year too.
Aah! There you are my dear! Ready again to bash the Dutch entry.. you’re hate campaign will not work .. Joost will do well.. and you know it…
Yes, defenitely winner vibes. This will be an epic performance.
I can’t remember as much excitement for a Eurovision act – something tells me this is going to be iconic
The last time the contest was on Malmö, Netherlands had not even qualified for nine years! How things change.
in Malmö
This is going to be awesome!
Winner vibes incoming!
It’s not a winner will do well though. I have correctly picked 23/25 Eurovision winners and Switzerland will win this year. Uk and France will also do well with Netherlands and Italy in the top 5.
Who were the two you missed?
Woah! Thats incredible which ones did u predict correct and which ones did u miss. I hope ur right and uk does well.
We have similar records then but I predict Croatia to win this year with Switzerland winning the jury vote (a result similar to Dami Im in 2016). I agree that UK and France will do well (mostly thanks to juries) and Netherlands and Italy will be in the Top 5.
PS. For the records I missed Estonia in 2001 and Portugal in 2017.
I don’t think Switserland will win, even Arcade almost became-second because of the televote, and I don’t think Nemo’s song is going to get more jury votes than Arcade did, because France and Italy and Norway, will steal a lot of votes, but we will see.
