Yes, you’ve read right. After almost 4 years it’s time to say goodbye to Jedward. But don’t panic just yet. The duo are not splitting up, they are simply re-branding. From henceforth they shall be known only as John and Edward Grimes. Their management are reportedly calling this a “metamorphosis” as the twins evolve from teenage popstars into mature artists. Huh?

Their live show is also set to undergo several changes as part of this image overhaul. Gone are fun covers such as “Ghostbusters” to be replaced by dull ballads like “Home” and “Hey There Delilah”. The pair’s madcap antics are also set be axed in favour of some guitar strumming.

So why this sudden move towards a more “grownup” image? Apparently their manager Louis Walsh thought that now the twins are almost 22 “all that jumping around was starting to look stupid”.

Ok, time for a reality check Louis. What’s wrong with Jedward John and Edward sticking with what they’re good at? The madness and craziness is what we’ve all come to love about the duo. And honestly do they have the vocal ability to do a whole concert of ballads? Anyways who says that growing older means they have to become all serious? If that’s the case Nicki Minaj, Lady GaGa and the rest clearly didn’t read the memo. And as Taylor Swift sang:

I don’t know about you but I’m feeling 22
Everything will be alright if you keep me next to you
You don’t know about me but I bet you want to
Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we’re 22

The changes are set to be rolled out at a series of upcoming concerts in Ireland, the UK and Australia. I guess we’ll have to wait for the reviews to come in before we know whether their new direction will be a success. Personally, I hope Jedward take Taylor’s advice and keep dancing.

This pair is just sickening. As long as they are around I hope Ireland never wins the contest again. Surely Ireland can do better.

I like them, they’re great performers.

They’d better harmonize instead of singing the same note together like they always do; otherwise, those “grown-up” songs are going to sound quite odd.

Looks like Rodolfo Chikilicuatre never checked up on the memo. The dude was nearing 40 when he competed, and yet he had the nerve to bring a toy guitar onto the stage.
