Since coming 10th for the United Kingdom at Eurovision 1991, with the song “A Message to Your Heart”, Samantha Womack has focused mainly on acting, starring in many television series throughout the years. In contrast to her Eurovision performance, where she sang about relieving world hunger, she is best known for playing bad girls, most notably Ronnie Branning (nee Mitchell) in the British soap “Eastenders”. However, for the past two years she has been largely absent from our tv screens.
She was last seen in “Eastenders” in 2011, when her character was sent to prison for kidnapping her neighbour’s son in a baby swap plot. But next Monday officially marks the end of her televisual hiatus, as she makes a dramatic comeback to the soap, which sees Ronnie released from jail and dealing with the consequences of her actions. Now I’m a bit patchy on all the gritty details since I’ve always been more of a “Coronation Street” fan, but the video below summarises things nicely (although it may contain spoilers).
Dedicated tv viewers can be forgiven for thinking they’re seeing double next week, as not only is Samantha back in “Eastenders”, she has also joined the cast of the comic drama “Mount Pleasant”. She plays the character of Tanya, who is described as “insecure, extremely scatty and an attention seeking little minx”. With one of her first scenes involving sex, I think it might be safe to assume that her character will be more in the vein of Ronnie than her Eurovision persona. But presumably without the criminal record, although I can’t be sure.
Samantha’s return to “Eastenders” can be seen next Monday 9th September at 8p.m. on BBC1 and RTE1, while she makes her “Mount Pleasant” debut on Wednesday 11th September at 9p.m. on Sky Living. Will y’all be watching?

I actually think the song is quite good, although admittedly the live performance is a bit off key. I’d recommend taking a listen to the studio version: http://youtu.be/fH1csKiWcmU
@Charles you’re full of surprises. I was of the impression that you thought everything before Dana International was excellent, with the bad stuff only coming after.
Oh,I remember her ..she was just pretty,o voice..bad choice..
blah blah blah blah compromise…….than a GRAIN OF CORN!!!! yeah right samantha janus!!!
I thought it was a nice song, but the performance during the national final was much better that the Eurovision one. Eurovision in Rome that year was a pure mess with the hosts not speaking English or French, but there were quite a few good entries: Switzerland, Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Israel, Sweden, France…
I remember never being a big fan of any entry the UK presented during the 80s and 90s with Love Shine A Light in 97 being an utterly miraculous expection and a more then a deserving winner. But remembering 1991 and that dreadful performance by Samantha and dull song was as embarassing as seeing Toto Cotugno hosting the whole show and shamlessly showing how he couldn’t care for any other language but his own. Placing 10th was a kind gesture … but not necessarly deserving when one thinks that songs like thes ones from Finland, Greece and Iceland were far… Read more »
