Because our lovely Belgian blogger Jacintha is visiting the States and currently playing in the snow, I (Mike, the Dutch alternative) am here with the results and some mini-reviews of tonight’s Eurosong semi-final. Earlier this evening four contestants—Axeela, Yass, 2 Fabiola ft. Loredana and SIL—grabbed the microphones and performed their original songs. It wasn’t always pretty…
During the first three acts I debated whether Belgium is even trying to reach the finals this May in Copenhagen. Disaster. But the upbeat jury liked everything, giving each act 80 points or more…
Axeela gave us a lot of leg and sang about “happy pills.” I’m not making this up.
2 Fabiola ft. Loredana put on a circus show…It felt very Moldova National Selection.
Axeela was more understated and had a modern Tom Dice vibe.
But then SIL took to the stage. With a beautiful ballad, she made herself cry—and plenty of Belgians too. I could feel the emotion all the way in Holland! It’s clear that SIL and her song are ready for Eurovision!
And if that wasn’t enough, ESC 2006 contestant Kate Ryan performed her song ”Je t’adore”. After that I just can’t hate her for performing in Sochi last month! Also she told us that she is not the lead singer of Day One, but we already guessed that one…
After the televoting, it was clear Axeela was out. They came last with the jury and the public. The presenters then announced that Yass had made the final.
The last announcement was between 2 Fabiola ft. Loredana, who the jury ranked third, and SIL, who the jury ranked first. Was Belgium sending the best song of the night to the final or were they going all cray cray like last week? Luckily SIL advanced—and there was hope for Belgium!
What do you think of SIL and Yass? Is Belgium on to a winner?

Kate with botox hahahahha funny. She looks normal, maybe that dark hair makes her look different, but not old. She looks totally normal as 33 yo girl
One of the worst songs of Silver.
Kate and botox? Thats imposible, she is so busy lately she had mnm concert that day, I think she was just tired, she is amaziby.
Ops: my mistake – I meant Yass …. his song … :S
I said before “one word: Sil” and I stick to my preference for Sil’s song and simple, humble, moving and honest performance. But after listening the very well “staged and acted out” performance of Axeela’s splendid song which blends French and English in a way like I’ve never enjoyed and felt before, I would not be surprised and unhappy if she managed to represent Belgium and become another favourite of mine. Songs like his and Sil’s require one thing a lot of people find impossible to do: listen and feel … that’s how a great song speaks to any of… Read more »
Ironic: I remember not hearing Kate Ryan’s voice loud and clear back in 2006 as she was too damn distracted with dancing, performing, moving from one mic to other … and her back up vocalists helped her out otherwise … where would the vocals in the song come from? 8 years later I got to hear what in Athens I did not hear … However the studio recording will always sound better than any live performance. And yes Kate Ryan is naturally older because we all do get older … (anything missing here in the logicality of life?) if she… Read more »
After hearing Katy ryan performing I can say yes she is the lead singer of day one. She sounds exactly the same as day ones singer. Her voice has more growl to it than she did in 2006. But come on it is her.
One word: Sil …
Kate Ryan looked horrible. Her friend Charlotte Perrelli teached her a lesson in how to use botox …
Anyway, the right songs qualified and I wouldn’t mind Yass or Sil going to Copenhagen.
Kate is soooo HOT!
Why not to send Kate Ryan to Eurovision again, would be best choice 🙂
Kate with dark hair? Wow! She is great, what a legs! But I prefer her in blond 🙂
I don’t see Kate Ryan old, she is pretty sexy. 🙂
Kate Ryan should win hehe, she was best 😛
oh my god kate ryan looks so old! i couldn’t see it was the same as the one on stage in 2006. and she’s only 33!!
I didn’t like any of the songs tonight. I think Axeela got screwed over, she had a lovely voice but they gave her a crappy song. Eva Jacobs is my winner unless someone from the third semi-final is absolutely amazing.
