It’s been an eventful couple of days for the Grimes brothers, with Jedward finding themselves stranded on shifting sands and in need of rescue by the Irish Coast Guard.

The Irish Sun reports that John and Edward were out walking along the coast near Donabate, north of Dublin, when they suddenly found themselves stranded on a sandbank due to the rapidly incoming tide. Oh no! Being close to the waterline was only ever supposed to be a metaphor!

The boys frantically phoned their mum, and the Irish Coast Guard dispatched rescue boats. A ten-man team eventually got to them at 1am, with the brothers a little shaken, but safe and sound.

We’re so glad to hear that Jedward are OK now, but the good news continues with the music video for Jedward’s new single “Free Spirit” being released today.

We previously reviewed the single, noting it shows Jedward’s new maturity and hands-on involvement in the writing and production of their music. The brothers have taken a similar approach to their music video, shooting and editing it themselves.

In the video, as well as exploring the Irish coast (uh-oh!), the twins continue their tradition of using foreign locations by paying a visit to the Colosseum in Rome. In some scenes they mix things up by wearing non-matching outfits (Edward looks especially cool in a leather jacket). And the brothers give the camera plenty of blue steel and boyband moves, which – let’s be honest – is something they do really well.

In other words, it’s another quality work of Jedmanship.

The time away from the ESC stage might not be a good thing for them if they should decide to make an attempt at qualifying. In the event they decide not to, Ireland should consider Audrey Gallagher.

They’ve improved greatly since 2012. They are on my return list along with Nina (Serbia); Nina Badric (Croatia); Jade Ewen (United Kingdom); Loreen (Sweden); Senit (Italy, Switzerland or San Marino); Rona Nishliu (Albania or Kosovo if they join) and Edyta Gòrniak (Poland)

Really hoping RTE select them internally for Eurovision 2015
Sadly, they are Ireland’s only hope of a good result these days, plus it was Eurovision that made me like them…I hated them before 2011.
