French and Belgian Eurovision acts including Anggun, Amandine Bourgeois, Amaury Vassili and Roberto Bellarosa are among the stars appearing on a French charity single “Kiss & Love” and accompanying album for Sidaction – a French philanthropic event started in 1994 to raise awareness and research funds to fight AIDS (or SIDA in French).
The single and album have been organised by celebrated French musician Pascal Obispo, who was responsible for putting together a similar album Sidaction in 1998 with a supergroup – including French stars like Patricia Kaas, Lara Fabian and Johnny Hallyday – dubbed ‘Ensemble 1998’.
The original album sold 700,000 copies in France alone and there are high hopes for the new album to replicate that success.
Over 100 artists have joined together for the album and many have participated in the album of duets due to follow in late 2014.
Team Wiwi loves the charitable intention and the amazing sound of this collaborative effort. It’s stirring and for a seriously good cause.
Considering all the different voices, the effect blends really well and sounds thoroughly modern. The cause may stay the same but the fight is moving forward and the sound of this effort reflects that.
It’s also a fitting celebration of the vital work Sidaction have been doing for the past twenty years.
Here’s the original clip for the 1998 single ‘Sa raison d’être’ in which you can see Patricia Kaas and Anggun working it in the name of charity and looking all the fiercer for it.
