Fireworks always go off at Romania’s Selectia Nationala — but this year they moved from the stage to social media. In recent weeks rumours have swirled that Romania’s state broadcaster was in cahoots with Voltaj to ensure his victory with the song “De la capat”. Jury votes had allegedly been bought in the hours leading up to the contest. We are pleased to report that it’s simply not true. wiwiblogger Bogdan Honciuc sat on the jury in Romania last night and, in the video below, he dismisses the allegations of corruption and wrongdoing. He also points out that Voltaj won both the jury vote and the televote, suggesting its widespread appeal.

Vote rigging at Selectia Nationala? No.

It’s quite acceptable for countries to choose dull winners

There were at least four other performances that would have been highly suspect if they had one. But Voltaj was the rightful winner and there was no controversy among my peers about that.
