@Eugene, that’s true, and usually the highest scoring song will prevail. But in the cases where the majority prefers the second placed song when their preferred act if out of the running,ie Iceland, the format works well. I personally prefer a proportional voting system, a la Melfest, but the Superfinal is also a good system.

@Eugene there is sense behind the Superfinal format, although it’s benefits are a matter of opinion really.

And at least the MakeMakes won.

I was really hoping for Zoe 🙁 But at least one of those atrocities won’t represent the hosts. I could accept Dawa. But I really hope and expect at this point, that The Makemakes are the winners!

Lets hope that the public don’t knock Zoe or the MakeMakes out of the top 2.

Juries basically agree with us, Zoe and Makemakes have by far the most points.

Agreed, songs 2 and 6 (or possibly song 4 as an alternative) should reach superfinale.

If Austria picks JSB (or those Folk guys), they will be the laughing stock of their guests. Since people cannot make fun of Finland in public, Austria would get the most of it.

But lets be honest, host entry won’t win, but will be in finals nonetheless. It will receive some points, at least out of politeness. Hence, they don’t really care. However, their image should be important to them.

My opinion on performances: 1. Who You Are – just horrible, it doesn’t even know what genre it is… 2. Quel Filou – I prefer it in French, but Fr/Eng combo isn’t bad either, still has a lot of charm 3. Feel Alive – nice little song 4. Utopia – despite too much ballads, this was quite nice 5. Absolutio – ouch, what a disaster! It would compete with UK and Finland in who has the biggest disaster! 6. I Am Yours – quite nice entry, has ESC vibe If Austria wants to suck in their own contest, they will… Read more »

Ok, so Quel Filou is french/english, not just english, that’s good. If France doesn’t give it top points I will die laughing.

@Eugene:

Not necessary. Remember that Romanian entry De La Capat won from the starting position by a longshot (both jury and televote). There were far more songs than in Austrian final, which should have made it more difficult too. Also, Conchita Wurst won ESC last year from the middle position.

Zoe should sing in French. Why is that everyone thinks somehow singing in English increases ones chances? Not true, good song increases chances. And being distinctive too. Everyone translating in English is not distinctive. And note that *many* if not most translated songs mess-up lyrics.

Is it just me or was the Austrian finalists’ cover of Rise Like A Phoenix more in tune than the Armenian entry?

I thought the whole point of “Quel Filou” was the french? The backing singers were wearing berets for god’s sake, the song couldn’t have been frenchier even if they had been swinging baguettes around. I think it will lose much of it’s appeal with the language switch.

If Austria will choose Dawa, they will be more original than most of participants.

WHY Zoe in English? It is so much more distinctive to hear it in French. Why are artists trying to lost themselves in masses. I’m afraid this year will be full of decent songs of a similar sound which won’t go far cause of the same concept.
