Sweden’s hopes for a victory at Eurovision 2015 rest on the finely chiseled shoulders of Måns Zelmerlöw, but now he has five backing vocalists to help share some of the burden. Today SVT confirmed that Britta Bergström, Michael Blomqvist, Linnea Deb, Alexander Holmgren, and Jeanette Olsson will join Måns on stage in Vienna.

Unlike Melodifestivalen, Eurovision does not allow pre-recorded backing vocals. So the Swedish delegation have called on these five to replace the pre-recorded choir we heard at Melfest. Naturally you won’t see them. As with Sanna last year and Loreen in 2012, they will be obscured and hidden so the focus can remain on Måns.

Of course, we’re talking about Sweden so these aren’t just any backing vocalists. Jeanette has provided vocals for albums from Britney Spears and Kate Ryan, and she sang with Antique at Eurovision 2001. Britta provided backing for Loreen in 2012 and for Molly Pettersson Hammer at Melfest in 2015. Linnea Deb is a co-author of “Heroes” and has worked with Ace of Base and Carola. But it’s not just about the ladies. Michael has performed with Carolla, Charlotte Nilsson and Mans. And Alexander finished sixth on the X Factor in 2012.

Do you think they’ll be able to recreate the amazing choral sound from Melfest? Let us know below!

Another fact is that the songwriters of Heroes have written a song for the X-Factor finalist from the second season who is now popular, Fifth Harmony, entitled “Top Down”. This is one of my favorite entries from my own top 5 selection actually. Great one Måns.

Alex,
Vocal range and pitch accuracy???????Are you freaken kidding!!!
Do you mean he has a vocal range because he starts low (and struggles alot in first 20 seconds) and then goes to high notes? If so, how much do you really know about vocal range?
Have you notice his voice in chorus sounds stronger because of prerrecorded backs… He needs strongs backs otherwise all that chorus gonna be bad bad bad… Just take a time to listen carefuly.

Sweden as always amazing song. I love the singer very much. He is handsome and talented. Of course Sweden will not win again, but this song is one of the biggest songs of ESC ever

This is my opinion (TIMO)

He can have thousands backing singers or whole of sweden behind him that song is not going to win, fleshy fake entry just like many other entries in the past failed miserably, heroes that polished via computers is nothing special..sorry I had to say my true opinion same as I said about Sweden another hero entry in 2008…fake and fleshy songs never convinced me and I had to say negative but true things about them…anyway good luck Sweden

@Jaccobabe, whatever Måns wears, it will look great on him, he’s almost as hot as Nadav Guedj, in my opinion. But, yeah, the fewer clothes on him, the better. 😉

In my view, hiding the chorus is always disrespectful to the backing singers. I know that there is no obligation to show all singers on the stage, yet they are a part of a performance! At least, nobody has hidden any backing singer literally since Croatia did it in 1999;)

I’m sorry but I need someone to explain something: How does having backing-vocalists indicate that you can’t sing (if you people even are serious with your comments)? Virtually every ESC act utilises backing vocals. Loreen had them, so did Ruslana, Rybak and Lena. Most use them to strengthen the singing or to add nuances. In this entry their main reasoning is the fact that there are parts where Måns simply isn’t singing at that point, like the “You keep dancing with your demons” part. It has to sound different from his voice. Also note the parts where he sings “Oh-o-oh”… Read more »

@Saule Riet: For someone with the username “Saule Riet,” I’d expect you to appreciate vocal ability in songs that are hard to sing… I actually might agree that there are 20 songs that I like more, but when it comes to his vocals, come on. No other singer in the competition displays a range like that, and perhaps not even pitch accuracy and vocal depth like that, not even the Il Volo guys.

He needs 5 back vocals, beacuse he can’t sing. How the hell this song is favorite to win the competition? They are 20+ songs this year that are better than Heroes. Sorry Sweden!!!

A good team to work with. Sweden is definitely a professional at Eurovision.

By the way, the adjustments to the stick figure have been finished. In addition to new look he will now use a different method of flying. We haven’t been given pictures or anything of it but the leader of the Eurovision delegation reported this to Aftonbladet. Can’t wait to see the final version!

I’m not sure if I will vote for him; it depends on his final performance. What is certain is that my mother is definitely going to vote for him. She has even put the performance video to all the classes in the school where she teaches and all the kids are mad with it and they ask her to put it everyday. They love the ‘heroeoeoe’ part and they sing it together xD

Of course they want the focus to remain on Måns. We all know why. ;-D
By the way, he’ll have his little man next to him. 🙂
And of course they want to use as many vocals as they can. They always want to win.

If they had only one backing vocalist it would’ve been fine to me. The reason this song is so high on the betting odds is because Mans doesn’t really need anyone’s help. He comes with his ridiculous vocal range and pitch accuracy.
