The Czech Republic’s Marta Jandova and Vaclav Noid Barta have received mixed reviews since revealing their song “Hope Never Dies”. Some people raised concerns about their chemistry, while others worried about their vocals. Well this evening they performed their Eurovision song live for the first time at “Ceny Andel” – the Czech Music Award Ceremony — and have proven their vocals do work and that they can look into each other’s eyes with some real passion.
Marta and Vaclav went on stage just for themselves, not caring about any staging. They probably don’t want to reveal their secrets until Vienna. Unfortunately, Ceska Televize has provided us with this video with poor sound quality. It seems like you could sense that in the arena, too: Even the hosts of the event asked the audience to be quite during the performances. Nevertheless, Marta and Vaclav’s voices were on point and they really seemed to enjoy singing together. They cheered each other on and really shared their energy with the audience. And, in any event, the Czech Republic has enough time to make this even better. I’m confident they will blow y’all away!
And what do you think of the performance? Let us know!
Wow, very impressive. I think the song itself is far from being best in the competition, but their vocals definitely are among the best. Especially his.
Even tho this song has grown on me, safe to say I don’t hate it anymore, I still don’t find them blending together as vocalists as smooth as Id like. It’s just all ‘meh’.
Excellent performance. I am loving this song. I want them in the final.
Yes they are good singers, we knew that. And I ‘m glad she did not overdo the sexy vixen look and keeps it down to earth. I hope she stays that way in Vienna.
The main problem is him. Too wooden (look at the way he holds the mike) and his voice is guttural and a little unpleasant. He should tone it down and look a little looser. However I do think they are certain qualifiers.
The arrangement with the live instruments sounds so much better than the studio version – a lot more modern (not like the song was modern anyway).
Anyone else getting a serious evanescence vibe from this song? And there’s nothing wrong with that 😀
They look worse the The Common Linnets and they have much worse song than “Calm After The Storm”. Czech Republic is hopeless this year.
I absolutely adore this song and their voices are magical together. I think Vaclav has some of the best male vocals of the whole field and Marta pulls her weight for sure. They’re powerful <3
AMAZING
I love his voice. Czech Republic should be in the final!
Nice attemp! i know they will do better in Vienna. They sang very good, i hope they bring a couple chorists vocals to Vienna, to support their voices in some parts and make this song more powerfull. With a good staging this should not worry about getting to the final. Love their dark looks.
Okay, not bad. Considering that this is their first live performance of the song (that we know of at least) and that the sound quality isn’t the best, this is good. Of course there are improvements to be made but hope isn’t dead yet. They need to have great staging if they want to keep that hope alive though.
Very good vocals!! They are great!
Also their live voices are better thrn the studio version
I hope the Czech Republic qualifies!! They desrve it this time! ((Also many neighbors in their semi and they all love vlacav and marta))
Czech Republic deserves to qualify if this duo delivers a worthy qualifier performance on 21st May.. Their song is definitely good enough to get the qualification.. Ok they might seem unsympathetic & not likable to me but.. Marta is a good looking woman and her eyes especially are hunting… <3 🙂 She might look like a witch 😛 but she must be just OK as a person in her real life obviously.. 🙂 Vaclav is sexy…His body is very well build.. Its exactly a guy like him that you would want to hire to a gay club as a bouncer… Read more »
boring song, i don’t like sorry
my only complaint is that vaclav looks terribly uncomfortable
loved marta jandova in bundesvision
love her now
it’ll be a travesty if this doesn’t make it and something kitschy like Israel does
CZ deserves it after the disaster that was aven romale
I preferred Marta, towards the end Vaclav sort of lacked a bit. They also have no chemistry. I hope this qualifies though.
Really good live performance! Might be the push to send them into the final this year!
Since their debut I have been supporting them. Really hope they qualify and make it to Top 10. The live is as great as the studio version.
Yes, very bad sound in theatre, live band was bad. In Vienna it will be better. But there is one important thing – they are perfect singers and their live performance will be 100%. Marta is biggest star in Czech Rep and Germany and she knows very good, how to make great stage performance.
OMG SO GOOOOD ! I would be so upset if they didn’t qualify for the grand final.
