Last Friday evening I was sitting with a fellow wiwiblogger in his apartment in Amsterdam. We were gearing up for Eurovision in Concert — the first big dress rehearsal ahead of Eurovision — and he was annoyed that I kept checking my phone. I couldn’t help it. About 360 miles away, Deban, one of our UK-based correspondents, was sipping on cocktails inside London’s Montcalm Hotel. He was attending the National UK Blog Awards on our behalf and, on the off chance we won our category, he would hop on stage, grab it and text me. And OMG — he did! That’s right people: wiwibloggs has won Arts & Culture Blog of the Year at the prestigious National UK Blog Awards.

Some of our bloggers in Copenhagen (yes, with bunny ears)

Several days have passed since then, but, amid all the filming and editing from Amsterdam, it’s only now that we’re properly writing to our readers to say thank you. Nearly 50,000 votes were cast across all categories in the preliminary round last fall. A dozen blogs made the shortlist and, in true Eurovision style, a panel of journalists and other industry experts then evaluated them. That took place over the course of a month so they could get a proper snapshot of each blog’s work day in and day out.

There was some seriously stiff competition — honestly, we were honoured just to be nominated — and we were touched by our fellow nominees’ kindness (and, of course, impressed by their work). The good folks at CrimeTimePreview wrote: “The winner of our category was wiwibloggs.com, an irreverent look at the Eurovision scene and worthy winner for its amazing depth and its sheer sense of fun.”

We were really touched that our readers took the time to vote in the preliminary around. We know y’all have Facebook posts to write, Instagram pics to upload and tweets to send. Thank you for pausing to show us some love. Your comments, suggestions, likes, and tweets keep us going and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in Vienna this May!

Congratulations, Wiwibloggs! I can’t speak for blogs outside of Eurovision, but this is definitely in my opinion the best Eurovision blog. The interaction between the readers and the writers is really good, and the number of topics covered in the articles is outstanding. You guys really do a good job of covering the continent and then some, from the story of Rose Fostanes and her association with Shiri Maimon out of Israel to Mario’s articles from the Balkans. Keep it up. @PP: Yes. Unfortunately with ESCtoday, for no apparent reason comments were blocked for a very long time. On top… Read more »

Congratulations to my favourite Eurovision site <3 and thank you for such a thorough coverage of the contest. Your articles are always a blast to read, because you go beyond delivering the news, that attitude of yours truly is your trademark.

Well done. While I do seem like a negative nansy on here most of the time, I enjoy your articles and while we are not always on the same page this is by far the most consistent and overall better produced Eurovision site out there ( Who am I kidding, no other site even comes close 😛 )

Well done y’all. I am spending way to much time here, so I know you’re good regardless of any awards.

For sure, I think what sets this sit apart from the other eurovision sites is that wiwibloggs has a personality, the articles are never just monotonously displayed for info, because the writers will always try to give that “attitude” to keep it interesting haha, something I don’t think a lot of other esc sites do. Congrats!

So well deserved guys. It may be the “attitude” that differs Wiwibloggs from other websites, it may be the devotion, the wit, the commonality… but one thing I can tell for sure – it’s way more FUN than any ESC sites I know. Congrats to you all.
