Chris: Many people were happy to write Mélanie René off before rehearsals began, but her performances in Vienna have shown that she has every chance of qualifying. The killer dress reveal works well for the song and whilst she uses a forest scene (like so many others), hers has a mythical appeal that helps it stand out. Mélanie’s voice has consistently been on point too, though there was a moment in her first run-through when an ad-lib over the guitar solo sounded a little bit off. She didn’t make the same mistake again.

This starts off really dramatic and I love the background and the whole businees with the drummers. I don’t understand why she has flooded the last chorus with backing vocals but just like in the swiss national final, she proves she can do a stellar job with some quite mediocre material.
I think she will be in the final.
Voice-wise I think that she is quite similar to Amber but she is performing her song much better and has a lot more help from the staging. I really like the drummers and they have managed to make the song feel like a big deal. I have to admit, it has a chance.
On a side note, I hope no actual trees were hurt in the production of all these forest backdrops this year.
I love the devoted Spanish fan who says “me encanta el fondo, guapa!” (I love the background, beautiful!) at the beginning of the video hahahaha
Am I the only one who think all of the countries in this semifinal that felt like definite non-qualifiers before rehearsals really have proved the opposite? I actually think every country has a chance to qualify. I’m really looking forward to Thursday!
She is truly spectacular live! Definitely has a fighting chance <3
