One month on from the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Eurofans are already displaying all the symptoms of post Eurovision depression. But if you were a fan of Denmark, the Netherlands, Moldova, F.Y.R Macedonia, Finland or Belarus, your sadness probably started right after they crashed out of Semi-Final 1.

Yes, the Netherlands’ Trijntje became the first Dutch act to fall at the first hurdle following two years of success, Finland failed to make punk a viable Eurovision genre, Anti Social Media broke Denmark’s seven-year streak at the final and Daniel Kajmakoski and those backing dancers kept FYR Macedonia out of the Grand Final for another year. Belarus and Moldova also failed to make the cut.

People still voted for those six acts though – nobody here ended up with nil points. And now, you can pick your favourite non-qualifying act from Semi-Final 1. You can vote for as many acts as you like, but you can only vote once: so make sure it counts!

Semi-Final 1 Non-Qualifiers

MOLDOVA – 11th place

BELARUS – 12th place

DENMARK – 13th place

THE NETHERLANDS – 14th place

FYR MACEDONIA – 15th place

FINLAND – 16th place

I was very pleased with the results. The only one that might have gone through if you ask me was Daniel. Others were eliminated deserving. It was not like Semi 2 in which Ireland, Czech Republic, Malta, Switzerland and Iceland all had songs deserving of pass, only were out-shadowed. IMO Time was so-so at best. And Netherlands… really? That was the worst performance of the evening, Finland included. At least they have a legitimate excuse.

I LOVED FINLAND with the intense performance but punk rock is know for going against the grain and this contest is about going WITH the grain. Sorry PKN. Belarus should have gone. There was not excuse! Especailly the little ending number (Time is like TUNDAH! Ahh ahhhhahh ah! Beating like TUNDAH!) that I was hooked to and found my self imitating! Loved Belarus and their journey that kind reminds me of Ukraines each year: A good but half-assed song turned EPIC. Lastly, Moldova should’ve qualified. It wasn’t the fun song we need to get out of this boring fest of… Read more »

Before Vienna, the Netherlands & FYR Macedonia were in my top 10 but they crashed & burned on stage. Terrible staging!
I would have like Belarus & Finland to go to the final.

I voted for Denmark. It’s happy and catchy song. The band was really good live. I like the singer’s voice. It was really good package.

Best song from the non-qualifiers was the one from Belarus, but what Moldova did on stage with one of the “weakest” considered entries there was absolutely fabulous. I think these 2 could have been into the final.

There was single 1 eliminated country on the 1st SF that had to qualify to the final.. That country was BELARUS.. <3 Both of the song/performance was really good so it was injustice that Uzari with Maimuna did not pass & were eliminated early on their semifinal.. Prefered Belarus to progress to the final instead of how many other countries that did.. About all the other 5 countries it was not injustice & unfair that they did not qualify.. Holland's song was great & my 2nd favorite on the 1st SF but Trisha's performance lacked & was not great so… Read more »

Unfortunately, I think the voters and juries (combined) got this round right on the nose. But I must tell you, when I graded them myself, my scores–after watching every performance–were THISCLOSE to throwing out Albania (9.23) in favor of Belarus (9.20).

@mawnck, thank you for that last bit. People don’t know where they’d be without the juries.

@ mawnck
“A rhetorical question, for all those folks who are angry because the juries knocked Italy out of 1st place … Are you also upset about the juries knocking PKN out of the Final, in favor of Boggie? Because they did.”
A good point, but on the other hand, I still cannot understand why Estonia was ranked so low by the juries…

Denmark or Finland imo, but the semi was completely awful and none of them deserved to qualify. Denmark was catchy, old-fashioned and not as bad as the rest, Finland would’ve been more exciting in the long run, maybe top 10 in televotes with Sweden, Norway & Iceland. Following these, I guess Moldova, Macedonia, the Netherlands and then that godawful Belarus ‘song’.

Belarus and Macedonia had mediocre songs performed and presented poorly, thus they never had a chance. Nor did they deserve one. Denmark’s song was outdated and, amazingly, contained some blatantly wrong chords in the bridge. (I can’t recall any other Eurovision song – EVER – that had mistakes like that in it.) There’s no way the music-type people on the juries were going to let that slide, regardless of how catchy the chorus was. Netherlands had a great performance, but a repetitive and somewhat annoying song, and absolutely horrendous staging/costumes. It was that last thing that killed that one. That… Read more »

I like all of these songs, except Finland (sorry). But, I think the right 10 qualified to the final from this semi-final. Of the 6 non-qualifiers, Moldova was probably my favorite.

The devotion towards the Netherlands still amazes me. Not only was the staging bad, but also the song itself. The only thing I can associate this song with is… irritating “why why why why why”. I’m still mad at the Netherlands that after such great entries in 2013-2014 they sent something so mediocre. And they wasted the huge potential of Trijntje’s voice.
I think the real top 10 of this semi-final was deserved.

Belarus and Denmark both gave good performances and had good songs, so I’d say them. Macedonia had a good song, but it was ruined live. The others had terrible songs and performances.

I went 9/10 on this semi final, just replaced Netherlands with Hungary.

Moldova’s song was horrible. No musical quality, all shock value.

During the show, my top 10 did qualify. Now however, I’d replace Hungary (a good song but too boring) with Belarus (one of my favorite songs but a boring performance and Romania (a mediocre song) with the Netherlands (a good enough song with TERRIBLE staging but good vocals)

P.S. Congrats to Trijntje

I liked all of the songs to some degree except Finland, but Netherlands sounded like a mess live tbh. Belarus might just be the best song from this bunch, but if you factor in the performance too, it’s definitely Moldova for me.

Songwise, the Netherlands and FYROM were good enough to make it to the final, but they were with no doubt two of the most boring presentations. Belarus was a mediocre song with an uninteresting performance, Denmark a really common boring song with a nice performance, Moldova really tried with the presentation but all the outcome was rubbish and Finland’s song was a horror. So, I actually think things were pretty fair in Semi Final 1, as the 10 best outcomes (song+presentation) did sail through. I only voted for the Netherlands on the poll, because it was my #16 this year.… Read more »

Belarus. The reason they didn’t qualify was probably because their performance wasn’t memorable enough. However, if they had the hourglass from the music video, with them on the stage they would’ve qualified.

Macedonia also had a good song, but the staging was terrible.

I’d have to say FYR Macedonia was a favorite of mine prior to the contest, I just think it was the silly rap inspired staging that let Daniel down. The song is well written, emotional and catchy, plus Daniel seems like a really nice and friendly guy. I would have replaced FYR Macedonia with either Serbia or Hungary, who didn’t deserve to qualify one was cheap and tacky, the other was a complete pretentious snoozefest. I liked Trintje of The Netherlands too before the contest, but her performance was so flat it was obvious that she wasn’t going to make… Read more »

Belarus and Finland instead of Serbia’s circus (one of the most awkward performances ever) and Greece (such boring song and presentation). I know that most people don’t like Finland’s song/performance, I’m not a big fan neither, but I think would be nice to see in the Grand Final. We had such repetive songs this year, and Aina Mun Pitaa is one of them, but it takes less than 2 minutes to end and that is great hahaha. Also would increase the message about acceptance and respect. FYROM had a great song this year. Before the show was one of my… Read more »
