Back in March, we were sad to see Molly Petterson Hammar crash out in the Andra Chansen round of Melodifestivalen 2016. But we were thrilled to learn that she would appear at Eurovision as a songwriter, having co-written Malta’s entry “Walk on Water”.
Now Schlagerprofilerna, the successful Sweden-based Eurovision and Melodifestivalen web site, has revealed another Eurovision 2016 connection for MPH.
As it turns out, songwriters originally submitted “Miracle” — Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2016 entry — to Melodifestivalen, and with Molly’s voice on the demo. Jurors chose “Hunger” instead, leaving “Miracle” out in the cold in Sweden.
Schlagerprofilerna revealed the news in their popular podcast series, which features a number of special guests in the run-up to Eurovision.
On one of the recent podcasts the super hot and über talented Melfest dancer Edin Jusuframic took part, reviewing a number of this year’s songs.
When it was time to discuss Azerbaijan’s song and its starlet Samra, Edin revealed that he was on the jury of Melodifestivalen 2016 that picked the final batch of songs for this year’s final.
He explained that “Miracle” was one of the songs that had been submitted and that it was sung by Molly Petterson Hammar, but ended up out of the contest.

@Jacques: I don’t think “Walk On Water” was meant for MF, because Ira Losco also co-wrote it. Unless they were BOTH planning on giving it to someone else at MF…
Where the songwriter or the producer was born is irrelevant (unless the objective is to stir up hate). The only thing that matters is the song.
It will be so funny if Miracle finishes ahead of if I were sorry…. Would kind of prove that Miracle could’ve won Melodifestivalen and not if I were sorry.
It’s not ltypical if Azerbaijan to pick up rejected song as an Oriental and newly established country they always go for flashy, gaudy and expensive staff. Probably this time they had to save money as the oil prices have collapsed.
Anyway, the song is too cheesy and you get the impression that it is over when it is half way through. The vocals are just horrible.
To me it should be a non-qualifier.
This Molly seems to be becoming some kind of mass marketing product with all these demo and songs submitted to MF. First Walk on water now Miracle, and Hunger. Neither of the three are that special. My favourite this year is actually Swedish Frans. He has a good song, simple, and he is so natural. Can’t wait for the finals!

I am getting so tired of seeing her involved with other people’s Eurovision entries. She could sing these songs so much better!
This song would have been a bad fit for Molly P.H., and it would have had little effect on the MF outcome, as compared to “Hunger”, which had the bad luck of being paired with Panetoz and their tune, both of which deserved to be in that final last month.
This “über-talented dancer” as you describe him is nothing but a BIGMOUTH and if he can’t keep secret what goes behind the scenes he should never be involved in the selection of songs.
By telling this, he’s just encouraging people to think and say MIRACLE is just a MF reject… Nasty guy
The song doesn’t fit Molly as well, though. It’s not nearly soulful enough to suit her.

Molly Pettersson Hammar should be the most talked non-qualifying entrant of the post-Melfest 2016 season. Two of her rejected Melodifestivalen entries representing Azerbaijan and Malta, but no Molly herself in Stockholm? 🙁 I’m a great fan of her voice, one of the strongest I have ever seen at Melodifestivalen; not last year’s entry but ‘Hunger’ is perhaps from my Melfest 2016 top three, maybe the favourite, I hope she’ll represent a country in Eurovision one day. Azerbaijan should sing a more traditional entry, now they use stuff from the swedish garbage can, I don’t think any other country just at the first moment search in the melfest garbage can.
I’m sure Bjorkman had little to nothing to do with the jury scrapping Miracle. He’s just managing the show.
It’s interesting to contemplate on how many Melfest rejects Azerbaijan has taken up on.
Hunger was my favorite in melfest and Miracle is my favorite this year haha, but I can’t see her vocals on the track though. It’s clear some great songs that are submitted are more suitable for Eurovision rather than Melfest, cause’ I don’t Miracle would have done very well.

They already did, back on their debut in 2008.
First time i see Molly, she looks lovely, natural and cool, but since I heard Miracle with Samra voice I would always prefer Semra singing it than another artist, Miracle suits Samra and its thousand ties better than that copy of Helena Paparizou song from Russia and another cheap imitation of Ricky Martin from France who sings song extracted from Moly universe and Man’s Heroes
@Mei International Maybe because Azerbaijan’s kind of arrived late in the game, after it was already pretty much established that English, like it or not, is a winning language in the contest? And that Swedes, like it or not, have seemed to be pretty good at writing and producing contest winning songs? There’s nothing scummy about sensing what wins and running with it. That’s called being smart. Azerbaijan’s done a lot of shady things in Eurovision (and elsewhere), and there’s actually a sister thread on that right now. I am not new. Azerbaijan year after year send songs produced by Swedes. Can they not use their own in-house/country producers? Why have we never once heard a song sung in Azeri? Nearly every other participating country has sent at least one song in their mother tongue. Just not Azerbaijan.
They rejected Miracle in favor of Hunger?? That’s practically sabotage. Molly deserved better.

Of course, it won’t beat how back in 2010, Denmark’s “In A Moment Like This” was rejected from Melodifestivalen, and then got Denmark to 5th place at Eurovision, whereas Sweden’s “It’s My Life” crashed out in the semis.
Miracle fits Samra best and Hunger fits Molly PH best.

and Ira’s song, was co-written by Ira herself as well, but Samra’s Miracle was written only by swedish producers
I actually don’t mind that the song is Swedish because it sounds like a song that would come from Azerbaijan. I’m thinking that the producers revamped the production before sending it off.

I guess Swedes were like…just send them [Azerbaijan] something in return for half of their oil and they just made a lucky pick from the bunch of rejects and whalla we have Miracle for Azerbaijan.
I can imagine Miracle with MPH’s voice. But: Hunger > Miracle
While I do like Miracle very much, I prefer Hunger, so I say it was a good decision, I still think MPH deserved to reach the MF final a lot more than Panetoz, but oh well.
I wonder if things would’ve been different, could we’ve got Samra singing Hunger instead?
