Boom, boom, boom, boom, sem parar! After winning Euro 2016, scoring a couple of European champions in athletics and becoming the European Champions in rollerblade hockey — and all in the past week — Portugal is ready to kick some ass at Eurovision 2017.
And Miss Katia Aveiro — the pop singer sometimes known as Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister — wants to be the one to do it.
Katia Aveiro’s hit single “Boom Sem Parar”
Shame on those who think Katia built her career in her brother’s shadow.
She’s a hard working business woman, singer and lifestyle blogger, performing at gigs around the world and serving dat Iberian realness that’s won her legions of fans from Setúbal to São Paolo.
And now those fans are getting VERY excited. Following last year’s rumours that Miss Aveiro wanted to blow up the Stockholm stage with her unique brand of latino-dance sizzle, she had told Eurovision fan site ESC United that she is “ready to go.” She said:
I am passionate about it [Eurovision]. I feel that I can help my country, and of course I will. I haven’t prepared any song yet for Eurovision, because I am doing many shows in Europe and South America, but yes. I am ready to go!
Katia Aveiro’s LIVE performance of “Latina de Cuerpo y Alma”
She’s ready to take the Eurovison stage and our bodies are ready for her heat. We seriously want Portugal to slay in their return to the competition and who better than Katia, who no doubt has the funds to support an extensive PR campaign and stage show?
We asked you once before and we ask again today. Do you think Katia Aveiro is a good option for Portugal’s return to Eurovision?

we don’t even have confirmed participation yet!
@Tom: And I am supposed to care a bit about the stick you still have stuck in Sergey’s bum because …?? If you love the “divine La Aveiro” for all the wrong reasons, don’t bother read me cuz you’re gone be upset like a kid not able to accept a “no” for any thing mummy says no to … @cheesecake: To understand David Carreira’s vocal abilities … imagine him having a Las Vegas residency in the style of Britney Spears … you’d be entertained with a CD being played for 2 hours or so … while no live singing would… Read more »
Filipa sousa should represent Portugal
she lacks of stage presence and good voice.
Portugal needs to choose internally a well known singer and ask the public to vote for their favorite song.
I agree with @Magpie.
Hey if she can sing and there was a song specifically made for her by all means go for it!
David Carreira is a bad singer!
@Charles:
I did not suggest David Carreira because of his looks, but because I actually like his music. It would at least be something (more) modern, although I don’t know about his vocal strength live.
I love latino songs but not electro. If Katia Aveiro releases traditional latino song, I will cross fingers for her:)
@Charles, who is polish slutty version of Fergie? OMG I need to know! 😀
Charles you seem very stuck up. Like pull the stick out of your bum.
If they’re serious about getting rid of Festival de Cancao (and if they aren’t they aren’t serious about winning. I appreciate Lusitanic Portuguese music, but please make it modern!) then I think they’ll internally select Suzy.
An act that recently competed and just missed out on qualifying, but has become beloved in the Eurovision fandom? Bulgaria did the same thing in bringing back Poli and got their best result ever (of course by her and her team writing one of the better songs competing however). And Suzy did better in 2014 than Poli did in 2011.
@Niki: It has been done twice: first in 1976 (yes there was Eurovision back then) and in 2003 with Rita Guerra … but unlike Poland who has no problem sending their own slutty version of Fergie or Romania who has no issue sending an operatic singer dressed as a woman and singing in falsetto to a rubbish dance song … Portugal will never play that game – everything that fans go nuts for in Eurovision (both musically and performance wise) is what Portugal’s musical landscape despises tremendously and never will RTP allow that to happen.
@cheesecake: If you wish to see the kid be shirtless on stage, doing dance routines to his attempt of pop/rnb sound while showing no vocal talent whatsoever, keep holding on to that dream. You see lip sync is still not allowed in Eurovision and only that would make David Carreira (or even his own brother) shine bright impressively for all the teens girls and all the gays dreaming of him in their own bed right after they got tired of Sergey Lazarev. I find it bemusing and embarrassing how invested fans are towards popular pop singers in different European countries… Read more »
I’d love to see her chosen internally but with a National Selection to find the perfect song!!!
Hell to the no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙁
She is Ronaldo’s sister … and not a singer! Get a grip for heaven’s sake!
We already have lip syncers in Las Vegas and women doing Reality Shows just to be under the spotlights for no other reason but ego and fame hunting. And who the hell still wants to see Eurovision’s music credibility sink this low just for the sake of comedy entertainment? This is just pathetic!
If the song was good, then I don’t see why not. I’d like her to come to the contest with some tropical house, like something similar to Kungs only in Portuguese. Anyways, I don’t think being Ronaldos sister will make too much difference. But cmon guys, Portugal has tried everything, maybe something like this is what is needed to get them back into the final. There has been a lot worse countries who qualified and shouldn’t have when Portugal missed out, especially in 2014 when Suzy should have been in the final.
Best of luck to Portugal
How about David Carreira?
Catarina Pereira would be the best choice. I still bop to Canta por mim these days.
As Portuguese, no thanks. She could sing the best of world, but the jury will be unfair for her.
She can go represent Portugal and I surely think she’ll have what it takes to let Portugal return to the Eurovision finals next year. I wish she’d be internally selected though so that Portugal’s broadcaster would be able to focus on promoting her for Eurovision (in fact, i think if Suzy and Leonor Andrade were selected internally, they’d make to finals too)
Don’t mind who it is as long as the song is good.
univision is airing esc 2017 in spanish, but will freeform air esc 2017 in english?
I’m not seeing her competing at Festival da Canção! She would like to be picked up by RTP, but as everybody knows, our TV Broadcaster are not used to do that.
I think she will be a great choice for Portugal. I still hope for Amor Electro
