His Eurovision 2016 performance required strength and endurance as he balanced on an LED wall, supported only by his firm grip and his gym-honed thighs.

And on Friday Russia’s Sergey Lazarev showed us how he maintains his form when he shared an Instagram snap of him working out, taken during a photo shoot for the Russian edition of Men’s Health.

Wearing a pink-orange tank top, the “You Are The Only One” singer demonstrates perfect form as he lunges with weights in hand, flexing his quadriceps and working his core — essential for maintaining tone and vocal quality when belting it out on stage.

His black workout shorts hugged him in all the right places, but were loose enough to let him flex his bulging thigh muscles.

Keen to coordinate, he slipped into a comfortable pair of Puma trainers in hot orange with Puma’s signature logo with curving black stripe on the side.

He opted for low-cut ankle socks, allowing his calves to breathe as he made his way across the photo shoot floor.

Working out is important to Sergey, who in the run-up to Eurovision had to balance his Eurovision promotional tour with a series of concerts and his ongoing role at a Moscow theatre.

When we first met him at Israel Calling, he complained that he was feeling slimmer than normal because of his hectic schedule which left him little time to go to the gym.

“It’s not so big,” he said of his body. “I became slimmer a bit because I was on tour, traveling, traveling, traveling, and I was very upset I am losing my muscles. I’m going to go to the gym during this promo tour and for sure before the Eurovision, so you will see my muscles back.”

In an interview with Russian media, he later explained that his Eurovision performance would require “physical endurance”, which made working out ahead of ESC even more important.

Since Eurovision things haven’t slowed down for Sergey who has continued his “The Best” tour, which is sold out all over Russia.

Over the summer he took a few days to head to Stockholm, where he performed at Pride and took a few minutes to catch up with wiwiblogger Tobias at The Grand Hotel.

@Charles, thx you’ve figured it better. I do like his appeal, but it’s way worse when about songs.
Guys you put too much on his defence. I checked his stuff and since he claimed that he loved this crap I have right to judge lol. The world is not fulfilled with his fans only *chuckles* so I’d prefer another interesting person from Russia since it’s tv bosses don’t give us chances to watch selection.

I’m with @Charles on this one.

@Plum thinks that when people don’t like a Russian song or artist, then they definitely think politically.

Sadly for her, it’s not the case…

@Charles

By the way, I love the way you form sentences! 🙂

@Where is the logic

I would take a risk to suggest that all your efforts are in vain. Charles is not the one to analyze new information and change his mind. It would be possible to add that besides all you’ve mentioned Lazarev is a good dramatic actor, playing in one of Moscow’s leading theaters but it will be superfluous, since for some people “Take it of” and pink pants are enough to form strong opinion.

@Charles Are you sure you are familiar with Lazarev’s repertoir? Which musicals out of more than ten he has taken part in you have watched? Which opera arias he has sung have you listened? The “outdated greek swedish” songs are the small commercial part of his repertoir, just for living. Just listen to Lazarev’s Belle (Notre dam de Paris), O Sole Mio, Lenski’s ariosio, Vdol po ulitse and dozens of other performances and tyen speak about musical taste… LOL musical taste

@(J)ESC Fanatic: Well Sergey cannot agree with what will piss Putin off … Now if there was no Putin or a Russia still having a problem moving forwards to the 21st century in all perspectives beyond the usual need to show off in any international event … then only God knows what Sergey would agree with … @Plum: You do know that we all here are familiar with Sergey’s repertoire besides his Eurovision entry, right? Having said that … people are entitled to express if they find such repertoire good or bad or even worse than that, if it truly… Read more »

@Riva
This guy’s musical taste is OK. Better some commentators get to know much more about the artist before commenting and some Juries work on their political tastes=)
Love, peace.

William had been definitely waiting for some provocation from Sergey to make an article about him an it happened!!!=))
Now we are waiting for a deep and serious analysis (mostly from commenters) of tomorrow’s New Wave (adults) opening in Sochi with Sergey traditionally hosting and singing since Jurmala times=))
