She works a sky-scraping top-knot and throws down some fierce, traditional dance moves in the video for her Eurovision 2017 song “Fly With Me”.
And on Tuesday Armenia’s Artsvik announced she’ll continue to pull the past into today by recording a series of covers of traditional songs.
Armenia’s amazonian goddess uploaded a short clip to Twitter where she revealed how the Eurovision 2017 theme “Celebrate Diversity” inspired her to launch the series of covers. She’s also challenging artists from around Europe to perform their own covers of Armenian folk songs of their choice.
Hello world! Let’s indeed celebrate diversity and show how diversity can unite us! @levinamusic, I Challenge U. #CelebrateDiversityChallenge pic.twitter.com/GOEPeUO0v8
— ARTSVIK (@artsvikofficial) 21 March 2017
First on her list is Germany. Artsvik lent her pronunciation-perfect German to the traditional track “Das Wandern ist des Müllers Lust”, which she sings with simple piano accompaniment. Her voices shines.
The ball is now in Levina’s court to take up the challenge and give her unique take on an Armenian folk song. If we had our way Eurovision stars across the continent would also give their take on Armenian Eurovision hits, but we’re fairly sure “LoveWave” doesn’t count as folk! Sad face 🙁

Artsvik’s road to the Eurovision Song Contest 2017
After a three-month battle in Armenia’s Depi Evratesil, Artsvik was crowned the winner on Christmas Eve, after fighting it out against Marta in the final.
Since then she’s been working on “Fly With Me”, perfecting her dance moves and working with a team of Armenian stylists to bring out her natural beauty and flair.
Now she’ll be rehearsing and refining her performance ahead of Semi-Final 1 of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, including an appearance at Eurovision In Concert.
Why would Artsvik challenge Azerbaijan? The country of Azerbaijan did not exist prior to 20th Century. It was created by the Soviets to eventually lay claim to the Azerbaijan province in Iran. Hence, if the country of Azerbaijan did not exist. How could they possibly have any folk songs? Whatever folk songs the Azeris claim that they have is taken from other Cultures and made their own just like they do in Turkey. Turkey and its predecessor state the Ottoman Empire did not exist prior to 13-14th Centuries. They were nomad Tribes that came from the Far East and settled… Read more »
“and throws down some fierce, traditional dance moves in the video for her Eurovision 2017 song.” writes Angus Quinn. My dear Angus Quinn, Artsvik’s dance moves maybe traditional but they are not Armenian.
I just saw Levina’s reply above. Yeyy! 🙂
P.S. UK Folk Songs tend to be a bit pompous. 😀
Its quite weak not modern turkey song with no good video……..
Realy good idea.
@Austria!
Why must you be such a party-pooper?
This is quite a noble approach to really make the most out of this year’s theme.
Both Iveta and Artsvik were born in Armenia, why talk about history?
after boring song they have decided to buy attention by stupid challenges..u better stop aggression Dear armenia..
Amazing!!!!! Love this! !!!
@HelmaR – Most Armenians moved to the US and other European countries as a result of the Armenian genocide. My great-greatparents moved to the US as a result of the Armenian genocide.
@fikri – LOL Artsvik is next on the “Ukranian hit-list” so if I were her, I’d either post a song singing a Ukranian folklore song to please the Ukranian authorities or get ready for descend.
Anjelica, Artsvik don’t seek any attention, ffs check her utube views.
Don’t judge others by your own standards.
I do not understand, why Eurovision fans are so negative this year, they do not like anything. This is actualy a good idea, one of the most interesting parts in Eurovision is when the participants get to know each other, became friends and sometimes not only friends ,last year Iveta and Douwe Bob ,werent they wonderful together? Enjoy the show guys.
I love this idea so much. I love folk songs and folk costume so I hope as many contestant as possible participate in this challenge.
BREAKING NEWS: Julia just got banned from entering Ukraine and won’t be allowed to participate in esc! 🙁
@ciao- are you nuts? She sang a German folklore song didn’t actually move there. This is such a great initiative. Armenia is truly trying to celebrate diversity unlike the host country.
From one boring act to another…. Armenia has a boring challenge to one of the most boring acts of this year’s edition (Germany). I should expect those kind of challenges between other boring acts, as they desperately seek for attention… from Malta to Czech Republic, and from the horrible Croatia to the atrocious Lithuania. It’ll be like the freak show of Eurovision…. At least bring the real challenges: Armenia challenging Azerbaijan or Russia vs. Georgia Oh, wait… I forgot we have a real life challenge: Ukraine banning Russia over the girl in wheelchair but with big mouth (making comments about… Read more »
Amazing idea! Levina already uploaded her video on Facebook. Check it out!
What’s with all the negativity? I love her idea and I hope Levina & co. will take part. Building bridges, y’all.
Celebrate Diversity people and stop moaning ,you sound like all stuppid politicians ,damn it.
Dear people stop critic .Vote for your favourite song. There are 10song that I like , but I don’t commented bad thing another 33 songs , that don’t like.
Iveta waved NK flag, and if Artsvik will sing Azerbaijan folk, then she will no longer be loved in Armenia. Bat idea this challenge. Can backfire.
People Calm Down. Why are You so anger? If Artsvik wants to do a good thing, we shouldn’t critic. YES, Armenians are around the world .After 1915 Armenian Genocide., they migrated.
@fikri: If people asks her to do so then she’ll probably will. We’re here to celebrate diversity, after all.
@Darius: People who do.
Why did you care enough to leave a comment in here if you claim that you don’t?
Love Love Peace Peace. 🙂
Boring news… Who cares about Armenia and their childish challenges?
@ciao Well, the countries like Germany, France, Sweden, US are full of immigrants from Armenia. I think that because of economic situation in Armenia people are leaving the country.
I’m worried about Moldova, the three guys speak russian, who knows if they were in Crimea too. I don’t want to see the epic sax guy in some ukrainian jail.
Is there an armenian singer that doesn’t live in Germany? Iveta, now Artsvik.
Leave Germany alone, the boat is full.
Just read that Artsvik is being investigated by the same people an reasons Yuila is being investigated. I am beginning to worry about this more an more.
@fikri: Since she has an open Twitter account, you may be brave and challenge her to do so. 🙂 After all, she was the one who started the challenge to Levina, so it’s only fair. I think Artsvik would actually do it – think positive. x
Remember Arevik from Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007? Here’s another song by Arevik from 2008, but with members that weren’t sent to Rotterdam. It’s called “Aragatsi Pesherin”. Maybe Levina could cover that? 🙂

@purple mask: sorry! but seriously tho, who’s gonna bet that she’s gonna sing an azerbaijani folk song anytime soon?
Its a boring song. I dont like it at al.
@fikri: Way to put a negative spin on a very positive idea. How about some SUPPORT from the fans, just for a change?
it’s a cool challenge but julia samoylova for instance is probably too busy getting banned to take part in it.
That’s a great idea. Let’s see if it takes off.
