For the past month, the votes for the OGAE Poll 2017 have been coming in — and they’re not stopping today. Right now it’s the turn of OGAE Albania and OGAE Italy. And most excitingly, OGAE Italy is the one country that can’t vote for “Occidentali’s karma”. Nail-biting drama! Can you guess where their 12 points went? Eurovision thrills galore!

First up is OGAE Albania, who gave their top points to fan favourites — 12 points to Italy, ten points to Belgium and eight points to Sweden. They also very generously gave seven points to the UK, which has more than doubled Lucie Jones’ overall score.

Then it was the turn of OGAE Italy. Unlike every other country voting in the OGAE Poll 2017, Italy can’t vote for the overall favourite, “Occidentali’s karma”. Instead they really broke with convention and gave their 12 points to Portugal. Their ten points went to France and their eight points went to Israel. Italy also had some small points to give to Hungary and Austria, with four and two points heading to Joci and Nathan respectively.

In the overall scoreboard, Italy still holds the lead with 347 points. Belgium is in second place with 241, while Sweden is third with 230. Rounding out the top five is France in fourth place with 188 points and Estonia not far behind on 164 points.

The biggest change in the overall scores is the UK. Their points boost from Albania has seen the UK go from 27th to 20th place.

OGAE Poll 2017: Albania votes

You haven’t been following, have you? Plus, since the semifinals were implemented (2004, 2005?), every time Portugal went to the final (sure, only 3 times) they were never lower than 20th and even got a 2nd place in the 2008 semi final. Sure, they don’t have a lot of countries voting for them on a regular basis, but that is exactly why it is a big deal every time they are able to go to the final (because when it happens, you know it’s about the song and performance, and not because of votes from neighbors, etc.).

Well, I guess this time it was really about the suspense. So that you wouldn’t know who received the Italian 12 pts until we read the article (even though we all knew it already xP). I don’t think Robyn hates Portugal. Why would anyone hate Portugal, really? Not only the performance, but as a country. It’s beautiful and peaceful.

Besides, in what sense is the Wiwi jury ‘composed by swedish lobbies’?

Nice metaphor, but a bit far-fetched for the average eurovision viewer (me included).

I’m sure that Italy will win, but I think that, with the right staging (and according with all the OGAE polls), Estonia might be the biggest surprise of the year.

I’m a little bit disappointed with all the hate on this website. People should use their energy in a positive way and not spreading all their hate around every post they find. It’s a reference to Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, which is set in Verona.

@pgonc: “Verona” = “The love we had in our youth.” Specifically, Verona is known to fans of Shakespeare as the place where “Julliet’s balcony” exists; a key romantic part of the play “Romeo & Juliet” – this is an actual balcony in Verona, Italy. Rightly or wrongly, many people go there to experience the romantic location. As for this song, it is about a couple that found love at a very young age, just like Romeo & Juliet (who were only supposed to be about 14). As this couple gets older, they are constantly “building and burning down love,” desperately… Read more »

Yay. I’m happy with my country votes – Italy (and I think they will more or less match our televote points as well). Portugal is my number one too (excluding Italy) and it’s the only alternative winner (to our entry) I’ll never fuss about. The Portuguese entry is so relatable for us and exotic at the same time, I love it. Good luck Portugal!
I’m so glad we give points also to Hungary, France, Finland and Estonia too. I’ll miss Belarus and Azerbaijan in this top but I’m good with the overall votes.

But people who vote from home are voting what they like regardless what is more dangerous for their victory (or at least I hope so), and juries should just be juries (I know that they are not and that there are political things behind and yada yada yada but I still hope that jurors will judge esc song with honesty). 🙂

Salvador is heterosexual but he wants to win so much that he understood the way to do that is to say that ”love has no gender”. Yes love has no gender, but he says that only because he knows is the trick to win, he is hypocrite. He plays the game in such a clumsy way. And you will like him even more, right(?), even knowing he was lying all the time.

Sorry, I’ve tried to look at the songs I’ve mentioned hundreds of time. They are well-written and contemporary, no doubt. Fashionable, I’d say. But contemporary doesn’t mean original. Not at all! Paradox: when EVERYONE goes for the “Ohhh, it’s so modern beat!!”, Estonia and Portugal (or Italy) automatically become the most original song in the contest, beacuse the’re different in the sense that they don’t follow the “contemporary statement tha masses use to value a song.

Amar pelos dois reflects many average ethnic Italians’ taste, just look at our voting history – we appreciate quality ballads, and we looove to hear weird languages. I’m sorry you don’t like it.

Not only that I don’t like it, but is the biggest contender for Italy, but sure that Italy will give 12(24) points to Portugal, just like it gave 12 points to Sweden in 2015. You deserve your faith if you keep voting for your ”enemy”.

Your argument is to vote only for strategic reasons, then?

This is a OGAE vote, it’s not the final vote of a country. People can be completly honest and say who they love. Portugal loves the italian song and it seems the love is mutual. In the end this countries can vote differently, but right now I’m just happy that strategy is not the main concern, but MUSIC.

Estonia will be the real surprise of the year, maybe not the winner but will place really high.

I highly doubt that it will place higher than Bulgaria. This is such BS. Maybe Belgium or Italy, but definitely not Estonia. They wasted the smallest chance they had when they lost Kerli. I doubt that they will even qualify from the second semi-final.

No one knows how their heavily changed performance/stage show looks alike.. They might surprise us with it and thus qualify.
