Australia doesn’t just compete at Eurovision — it earns its keep. SBS Australia is two for two in the slayage sweepstakes. Guy Sebastian nailed that funky music in 2015. And last year Korean-born singing sensation Dami Im brought us to tears while serving woman-on-plinth power ballad realness. There’s a reason she won the jury final in a landslide.
And now SBS Australia is showing off yet again with Eurovision Top 40 Songs. The countdown charts the best Eurovision songs of all-time, as voted by Australia’s Eurovision fans via the SBS Eurovision web site. Australia’s Eurovision 2017 commentators Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey will present the countdown, taking us to number one with plenty of sass and attitude — just like we like it!
The show airs on Wednesday, May 10 at 8.30pm on SBS. That’s primetime.
Unfortunately the program will not be available online or outside of Australia. You’re going to have to be Down Under to watch it.
The show will also feature interviews with six past Eurovision winners, including Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw (2015) and Loreen (2012); Austria’s Conchita Wurst (2014); and Brits Katrina (1997), Bucks Fizz (1981) and Brotherhood of Man (1976).
But they aren’t the only Brits on board, as wiwibloggers William Lee Adams and Deban Aderemi will also serve up some spicy commentary. We’re talking cayenne pepper, y’all. And so will Irish comedian Jason Byrne, UK comic Stuart Goldsmith, Australian funnyman Dave O’Neil, songwriter Casey Bennetto, music theatre star Lucy Durack, Please Like Me writer Becky Lucas, Here Come The Habibs star Tahir, comic Tessa Waters, Eurovision Professor Alison Lewis, and former Eurovision juror Richard Wilkins.
There’s more. Dami Im, Paul Capsis and ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again will deliver special performances during the show. Colour us excited!

Some people probably know the results, but they have NDA.
Public voting for the songs ended in March and the program was recorded at beginning of April (e.g. Dami Im was recording her performance for the program on April 10).
Finally they got rid of that male commentator who always sounded so bored and the whole thing was beneath him. I always wanted someone who actually liked the contest

yes… Opera has VPN but you can be seen as if you are in holland, germany, singapore, canada or usa so you can’t be “in Australia”….

While I’m not in Australia at this moment, I’ll be flying there in May specially to watch this program (nah, kidding, I’m flying there for different reasons 😉 but sure, I will be watching it). I don’t think I will be able to capture it myself and I’m not sure somebody will be recording the whole program from the beginning until the end, but I know there will be at least parts of it available and shared by our friends from Australia for people who couldn’t watch it. 🙂
