She’s the stunning German singer who finished next-to-last at Eurovision 2017.

And now Levina is overcoming her Eurovision result in the most fashionable way by releasing her official music video for her latest single Stop Right There”.

The breezy, toe-tapping track is the second single from her debut album Unexpected, which dropped during the Eurovision fortnight.

Oozing attitude and a fun-loving spirit, Levina tells her haters to step off and let her live her life by her rules: “Stop right there, it’s causing too much pain, No trespassing in my brain, my brain, my brain, And stop right there, I got barbed wire in my hair, I can’t care what you think, just gonna do my thing…”

The amusing clip sees Levina following those lyrics by having fun with her friends, seemingly without a care in the world. She turns the residential streets of London into her catwalk, dances in front of a metal wall and vogues on a gritty rooftop. Yass!

Her ease of movement, and indeed the lyrics, suggest this piece of pop was shaped by and for Levina. Just read the opening lyrics — no doubt a response to her critics: “So tall, a bit too blonde, Shouldn’t care what they say about me…”

She shouldn’t. And Levina knows that. As she wrote on her blog, it’s important to protect “your mind and make sure that criticism doesn’t get to you too much.”

While Levina did a good job selling her Eurovision entry “Perfect Life”, it wasn’t really hers. NDR’s chosen songwriters wrote it as a piece for competition without any specific artist in mind.

But with “Stop Right There” Levina delivers something crafted for her voice and style. It fits. She would likely have placed higher had she been allowed to sing this on stage in Kyiv.

The 25-year-old stunner recently presented the song on an NDR talk show hosted by Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt and Barbara Schöneberger.

She said that she was “extremely proud to represent Germany” and also revealed that she plans to finish her music management studies in London, where she hosts the music show PopXport on DW-TV.

So, what do you think of Levina’s latest single? Do you think she would have done better if she took this song to Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

“Stop Right There” lyrics — Levina

So tall, a bit too blonde
Shouldn’t care what they say about me
Walk fast, talk too low
Unlike anyone around here
And nothing is what it seems, no, no
Don’t trust what you think you see

So unemotional, oblivious to your touch
You think I analyse everything a bit too much
Nothing is what it seems,
All smoke in mirrors, don’t believe

Stop right there, it’s causing too much pain
No trespassing in my brain, my brain, my brain
And stop right there
I got barbed wire in my hair
I can’t care what you think, just gonna do my thing

Just gonna do my thing
Just gonna do my thing
Just gonna do my thing
I can’t care what you think

Oh, so serious
Shouldn’t care what they say about me
Mindless, superficially aware of my own behaviour
I’m cold as ice, I don’t think twice
Oh, nothing is what it seems

Stop right there, it’s causing too much pain
No trespassing in my brain, my brain, my brain
And stop right there
I got barbed wire in my hair
I can’t care what you think, just gonna do my thing

Just gonna do my thing
Just gonna do my thing
Just gonna do my thing

Stop right there, it’s causing too much pain
No trespassing in my brain, my brain, my brain
Stop right there, it’s causing too much pain
No trespassing in my brain, my brain, my brain

Stop right there
I got barbed wire in my hair
I got barbed wire in my hair
I got barbed wire in my hair
Just gonna do my thing

It must sound strange in Germany to have a pop star showing off her new song in English. I had the same feeling watching Anouk’s official video of Birds. She speaks in Dutch and then suddenly for the song, it’s English. You’d never have a British singer performing a German version of their song, especially not in promotion. I’d rather her sing in German.

Well, Anouk (whom I had already adored before the contest) has always sung in English so I’m surprised that you were surprised. 🙂 I agree that Levina’s new song might be more successful if it were performed in German. However, many new bands/singers singing in German have been established since 2002/2003 and the success of German pop/rock music is expected to decline and that’s why the records labels want their acts to perform in English again… However, I am glad that Levina did NOT sing “Perfect Life” in German because it would have just sounded like any shallow so-called “modern… Read more »

I like her new song. She really is a beautiful girl.

However, her Eurovision staging was awful …. plus they made her look 15+ years older than what she actually is. The German team did a profoundly awful job for her.
