She’s a Meflest maven, dreadlocked diva and physically fit performer prepared to perform rain or shine.
So it’s no surprise that Mariette put on a sublime stage show at Sommarkrysset amidst a torrential summer downpour.
Serving fifty shades of grey goddess, the “Don’t Stop Believing” hitmaker opened her set performing new single “Louder”, toughing out the tempest with the strength of a seasoned stage star.
Backed by five fabulous supporting vocalists, she starts things off at her microphone stand, before breaking free and throwing it down with vocal freestyle runs through the rest of the track.
The main event, a reprise of “A Million Years” – her fourth place track from Melodifestivalen 2017 – followed. The change of song brought a change of outfit too, as the star added an extra layer to keep the elements at bay.
Keeping warming didn’t mean she lost her cool. Despite losing her bungie-jump backing dancers, Mariette showed she’s still one of the slickest performers to have played the Melfest stage in recent years, delivering a characteristically charismatic performance.
The star followed the performance with an interview with Sommarkrysset host Gry Forssell, who quizzed her about how she stays in shape. Forssell said Mariette had one of Sweden’s “best voices and best trained tummies.”
Probed on her fitness program Mariette admitted she goes through phases of exercising.
“I practice in periods, but sometimes it will be fives times a week. Gym, personal trainer, everything possible.” No pain, no gain y’all!
Of course Mariette wasn’t the only Eurovision hopeful on stage at Sommarkrysset. UK Eurovision 2009 candidate and former America’s Next Top Model host Rita Ora stopped by to perform her new single “Your Song” as part of European promotion for the lead cut from her new album.
Finnish rockband The Rasmus, Melfest 2013 act Eric Gadd and Swedish singer-songwriter Thomas Stenström rounded out the lineup.
