He can sing. He can dance. He can host. And as it turns out – he can act! Swedish broadcaster SVT has just announced that multi-talented Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw will make his acting debut in the popular Swedish TV series Jordskott.
Jordskott is an award-winning crime drama where viewers follow police detective Eva Thörnblad and her efforts to solve a case where two children, including her own daughter, have disappeared over the course of seven years in the town of Silverhöjd. Måns plays a character called Henrik Riksäter, and he first appears in episode seven of this second season of the TV smash hit.
The man behind Jordskott, which first aired in 2015, Henrik Björn, praises the “Hero” singer’s acting skills.
“This character doesn’t play music, he is not a pop star, it’s got nothing to do with that sort of thing – so I contacted Måns and then he went to an audition,” Bjørn told Expressen. “He had a really good audition and was more prepared than many others were.”
But Måns didn’t get the part served on a plate. The Eurovision star was thoroughly tested at the audition, Björn says.
“The scene that he received was fairly long because I wanted to test him, and he delivered.”
And judging by Måns’ own experience of being on the set of Jordskott it looks like there will be more roles in his future.
“First and foremost, it was fantastic to be part of such a professional production with such a great script and skilled people behind and in front of the camera — it felt easy already from the start,” the Swede tells SVT. “There is something attractive in giving yourself to another universe, to go into a role. So I really developed an appetite to do more.”
So, it looks like Måns is keen to follow in the footsteps of his actress fiancee and give this new career path a chance. It will be exciting to see Måns in action…and you don’t have to wait that long. SVT has released a snippet of his acting debut. Watch it here on SVT Play.
