The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — continues to listen to and rank the 20 songs competing in Eesti Laul 2018. Next is Evestus with “Welcome to My World”. Did we lay out the welcome mat for them? Read on to find out!

Evestus – “Welcome to my World”

“Welcome to my World” reviews

Antranig: Evestus have an amazing look and they certainly will be memorable one way or another. Unfortunately, they don’t have the music to match. This is very much a joke entry with very little potential. As much as I would love to experience a day in their world, it is not going to happen. A couple of points for creativity and boldness but that’s about all I can give.

Score: 2/10

Barnabas: If someone is missing Nika Kocharov and the Young Georgian Lolitaz, well, their Estonian friends are here to serve us some heavy indie social criticism! The arrangement is pretty faithful to the genre, so if they get a really messed up staging, they could do well!

Score: 7/10

Deban: Regardless of Evestus’ intentions, “Welcome To My World” comes off as a joke entry, but I am not sold on the humour. Yes, it bears a message, but their delivery erodes their somewhat good intentions.

Score: 1.5/10

Lukas: I don‘t want to be in their world and this song makes me quite uncomfortable. Evestus’ avant-garde style looks cool but this song is just mediocre at best. It is very repetitive and after one minute I get bored of it. If they wanted to send some kind of a rock song I have to say they failed. There is just no power, energy or even a good beat.

Score: 4.5/10

Rick: This is crazy, loud and it definitely stands out – but not in a good way. Musically this doesn‘t bring the quality I expect from Estonia and overall it’s just disturbing. Of course you need provocative acts like them to make a TV show interesting. Because of that they‘ll get some extra entertainment points, but they are not contestants to watch out for.

Score: 3.5/10

Robyn: The lyrics of “Welcome to my World” sound like they were gleaned from the diary of a 15-year-old goth. Whoa, the world is a giant garbage fire! Musically, the song is much more interesting. But just as it gets going and threatens to explode into something amazing, it suddenly ends. Or is that a metaphor for life?

Score: 5/10

This song is bad from start to finish. And the music is so annoying. I can’t stand listening to all three minutes.
2/10

I actually like this. It’s in the second semi and I believe it is amongst the better songs in there. The voice and manner of singing may be off-putting to some though.
A 6/10.

Seems like today, Wiwibloggs has bit the bullet and tried to review each national final’s worst song….better to get it over with eh? This is horrible. If it is a joke, it is not funny. If it is serious, it is hard to believe that this was made by professional musicians.

Just now they performed on Terevisioon. You guys should add their video like you have done with other performers of Eesti Laul.

Hmm… Deban says it’s a joke entry, but I actually believe this was supposed to be edgy and dark. Is it good? Not sure, really.

I usually like this sort of presentation. And yet, something undefinable is putting me off. Maybe I’ll like the live version better.

I think four out of ten is generous, tbh.
