Portugal Claudia Pascoal 1

Some weeks ago, we opened Pandora’s box. Storms raged, battle cries echoed and war drums banged: the Spaniards and the Portuguese had been called… to vote! We asked you to vote for your favourite Eurovision 2018 act from the Iberian Peninsula. Now, we have the result.

There was drama. Spaniards pretended they were neutral foreigners in the comment section. The Portuguese complained how their entry was underrated. But, in the end, it was Portugal who emerged victorious from the battle of Iberia, albeit by the tightest of margins.

Cláudia Pascoal gathered a total of 2,520 votes with “O jardim”.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Alfred & Amaia received 2,347 votes for “Tu canción” .

That’s 51.78% vs. 48.22%. This poll was as close as the numbers between Roi and Ana War’s elimination in Operación Triunfo.

A total of 4,867 votes were cast overall, and readers could only choose one of the two options.

Cláudia’s “O Jardim” is penned by Isáura, who also provides on stage backing vocals. It’s simplicity at its best. These two ladies won over the hearts and minds of Portuguese TV viewers back in March with their sophisticated national final performance.

This garden contains two powerful women who manage to leave a lasting impression with their mellow and moody ballad. Pink hair, modern production and beautiful harmonies add extra flourishes to the 2018 host country’s entry.

Less than 200 votes behind, were Alfred and Amaia — or Almaia as they’re commonly known. After a three month rollercoaster, the young lovers emerged as the audience’s favourites during Operación Triunfo’s Eurovision gala.

“Tu canción” is a classic ballad, but it’s also a love duet reinvented by these two young artists. Their story flows beyond the television screen and surpasses language barriers.

Will the poll result reflect the voting in Lisbon? Will Portugal finish above Spain or will Alfred and Amaia rise above Cláudia? Let us know in the comments below.

Interesting because at the general “who should win the Eurovision?” poll Spain won over Portugal… Anyway, I like both these year. Boa sorte – Buena suerte!
