Six months after the 63rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest came to a close, Greece’s Yianna Terzi is proving that nothing — not even a semi-final elimination — can slow her down. The Greek goddess returns with a long-awaited new single “Karma”. While she may have been revelling in her most beautiful dreams back in Lisbon, Yianna has opted to focus her lens on a more serious issue this time around — bullying.
Working alongside Teo Pousbouris, who made up half of Freaky Fortune, as well as record label Minos EMI/Universal, Yianna has put forward a powerful and important message about stopping the hate and learning to accept those around us.
Bullying, a scourge of modern society facilitated by social media, represents various forms of intimidation and abuse whether it be physical, psychological or verbal. Taking to Instagram, Yianna explained that karma is not some magical force that punishes us or rewards us. Instead it is the result of our actions. The inspiration of her song is the behaviour of those who do not realise that what counts are the intentions behind one’s actions. She aims to clamp down on the issue and highlight that, in the end, karma shall have her say and justice will prevail.
The music video to “Karma” portrays this message. Set in the dead of night, Yianna takes us through the struggle and strife many of us have to go through when dealing with bullying in our everyday life. Fear, isolation and abuse are all personified in the music video through Yianna and her dancers allowing one to connect to the issue on a much deeper level.
Musically speaking, the song bears a lot of similarities to her ethnic and traditional Eurovision number. The song begins with haunting cries, which are juxtaposed with soft and gentle verses akin to the format of “Oniro Mou”. The song gradually builds towards the pre-chorus as more and more elements are added into the mix. It feels as though one is being taken through the plethora of emotions and feelings encountered when our world gets turned upside down. The tension continues to rise and culminates with Yianna proclaiming: “When your time is up, there is no escape from karma”.

Aww, she’s so nice dedicating a song to the Greek Eurovision fans who would bully anyone who would tell them she was not going to qualify… karma hit them hard!
You people are just jealous of our good results in Eurovision. Go have a look at your own countries who can’t make it to the final for years.
I don’t agree with the form of the message but somebody had to say it. Many Greek eurofans started thrashing the contest and claiming Europe somehow “hates” Greece, which is bs considering Greece was one of Eurovision’s powerhouses until as recently as 2013.
